The "work" of the Holy Spirit in the unbelievers life is to draw them to Christ. To reject Him, and His work, is to reject Jesus Christ...it is to continue in unbelief.

Unbelief does not need to be forgiven...it needs to be corrected.

I am afraid for those you "preach" to.Where do you get your theology from?the bible or psychologists?

I thought this quotation from St. Justin Martyr's First Apology was especially relevant:

"For what shall I say, too, of the countless multitude of those who have reformed intemperate habits and learned these things? For Christ called not the just nor the chaste to repentance, but the ungodly, and the licentious, and the unjust; His words being, 'I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.' For the heavenly Father desires rather the repentance than the punishment of the sinner."

(chapter XV of The First Apology of Justin.--"WHAT CHRIST HIMSELF TAUGHT")

About blaspheming the Holy Spirit, someone explained it to me this way:

First, God the Father came and He was rejected...
Then, God the Son (our Savior) came and He was rejected...
Now, God the Holy Spirit (the Helper) came and if He is rejected...
there is no one left to come...

It's one of the concepts that makes sense with a lot of biblical knowledge. I wish I could write well enough to make it clearer. There is so much that goes into that explanation, but again, I am not very good at conveying a clear thought.

I am not that good at it either, but here goes

Adam and eve sinned, were put out, and God the Father, testified of His Son coming, others also in the old testament, King David, the phrophets, Moses, and on and on.
Then the Son came and testified of his Father who he was totally dependant upon, (which gives us the greatest example) (be dependant on, yet we will need to believe first).
Now that it is finished per John 19:30, Christ exclaimed this. The Holy Ghost has come to do his job. John 16, good explaination of his Job. points back to the finished work of christ and then the ressurection. Wooing us to believe in Christ the only one that overcame death. thus believing in him (Christ) we have (past tense) have also overcome death, being in Christ that is, through believing, thus trusting him and his finished work.

I believe RC hit it on the head. Attributing to satan the works of the Holy Ghost thereby speaking injurious of Him

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is well explained in the passage prior to the one you posted in Matthew 12.

(Mat 12:22) Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.

(Mat 12:23) And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?

(Mat 12:24) But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

Attributing the Work of the Holy Spirit (in this instance the casting out of demons) to the work of the devil is Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. In other words calling the Holy Spirit the devil.

This is something that we should all be careful about

Thanks
RC

I see most people "feel" that it is this or that, many have been told that it is this or that but as RC posted, the scripture plainly lay's it out in context. It is ascribing the works of God to the devil.

It is not the only sin that will send you to hell but it is the only one that is unforgivable. You can reject Christ and end up in hell or you can reject Christ for part of your life, repent of it, and end up in Heaven. You cannot repent of the unforgivable sin, which is plainly explained above.

So in essence either Jesus is the messiah or he is not. Either he is from God the Father (creator and all) or he is from the rebel, the devil (deceiver).
So either I believe Jesus Christ and his words. take up my, his cross, and stick to him like glue
Or I reject him as not the messiah.
So either I believe or I do not. So it is unbelief that can not be forgiven, and If I do not believe then I am still in my sins.
If I believe I have received my sins washed away in the blood of the cross. Done, it is finished
