humbleinspirit -> What Are Your Favorite Carman Songs? (4/5/2008 9:31:33 PM)

Putting his personal doctrinal issues aside (I do not want this thread to be at all about what his doctrinal views are. To turn this thread into that I will consider to be off-topic)

What are your favorite songs by him?

Some of mine are:

1-Sunday's On Its Way
2-God Don't Care (What The Circumstance)
3-Lazurus Come Forth
4-Spirit Filled Pizza
5-Jesus The Light Of The World
6-The Champion
7-Revive Us, Oh Lord
8-Lord Of All
9-Soap Song
10-No Way, We Are Not Ashamed!
11-I've Got The Joy
12-Get Your Business Straight With God
13-Saved, Delivered & Healed
14-Jesus Is The Light
15-Celebrating Jesus
16-Serve The Lord

Just to name a few.

None. B/C of style

collie1 -> RE: What Are Your Favorite Carman Songs? (4/6/2008 12:37:56 AM)

I like a lot of his songs, I had a cassette of his back in the day. The Champion is one of my favorites, and I really like several of the others you named. When I went on long drives I would listen to both Carmen and George Beverly Shea, quite a difference between the two of them!

Now Collie, that is an interesting set of choices in music!

shemaromans -> RE: What Are Your Favorite Carman Songs? (4/6/2008 4:36:27 PM)

I read your initial post shortly after you created it, but I'm not familiar with Carman's songs. Therefore, I don't really have anything to say. Sorry!

Back when Carmen was "big" in the CCM, I did have a few of his uh..tapes (albums) this was also the time when "lip Syncing" was a big hit. There was this t.v. show that was called "Puttin on the Hits"... if memory serves. Our church held their own "Puttin on the Hits" type of program and I always lip synched to Carmen's "Champion" and "Lazarus" Also went to see Carmen "in concert" a couple of times. Our church also did a mime sequence to "Champion" I always had to play the devil part. Oh the memories. Good times... gooood times...
Well, I have grown out of the Carmen sensation, I am sure he still has an audience but if he would cut out the comedy bits and do some serious praise and worship music I think it would be better. I have the same issue with like Chris Rice.

For a laugh, I like Again in America. . .

America is number one in illiteracy? Really Carman? Really?

rockitd -> RE: What Are Your Favorite Carman Songs? (4/7/2008 2:03:27 PM)

1) The Champion
2) Lazarus Come Forth
3) Addicted to Jesus
4) Who's In the House?
5) God, God, God
6) Sunday's On the Way
7) Faith Enough
8) Who Is He? (f/BeBe Winans, Christmas)
9) Our Blessed Saviour Has Come (f/CeCe Winans, Christmas)
10) I've Got the Joy
11) Spirit Filled-Pizza
12) Radically Saved
13) No Way We Are Not Ashamed
14) Soap Song
15) Revival In the Land

I performed "No Way" and "I've Got the Joy" at my alma mater's chapel services back in the day. I actually have all of Carman's projects up to Heart of A Champion. Like or dislike him, he is a unique performer.

Beanteaser -> RE: What Are Your Favorite Carman Songs? (4/7/2008 3:16:37 PM)

Ah yes, Carmen. LOL!! All I could listen to as a kid was Carmen. I thought he was so cool. Now, I really don't listen to him but have a lot of respect for him. Not many artists put on free concerts. He would pack out huge arenas and wouldn't charge a dime!

I thought he was an excellent story teller in his music (The Champion, Witches Invitation, Revival in the Land).

Beanteaser -> RE: What Are Your Favorite Carman Songs? (4/7/2008 3:23:21 PM)

I just found this on wikipedia....

Billboard Magazine recognized Carman's influence in Christian music by naming him the first "Contemporary Christian Artist of the Year." He has received 15 gold and platinum albums and videos and has sold over 10 million records. He holds the world record for the largest solo Christian Concerts in history with: 80,000 outdoors in Charlotte, North Carolina, 71,132 indoors at Texas Stadium and the largest solo ticketed CCM solo concert with 50,000 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He still remains the only Christian "stadium act" ever.

I thought it was interesting.

Now are you saying that The Champion is cheesy? That was one of his best!

collie1 -> RE: What Are Your Favorite Carman Songs? (4/7/2008 8:08:18 PM)

I'd forgotten so many of these, Radically Saved was one of my favorites as well.

sunshine4God -> RE: What Are Your Favorite Carman Songs? (4/7/2008 8:19:21 PM)

I love Radically saved and I love Jesus.

If I read it right, they were saying "Witch's Invitation".

nealmorsefan -> RE: What Are Your Favorite Carman Songs? (4/8/2008 1:38:03 PM)

The Champion and Prepare To Die...I like Witch's Invitation also.

Dakotasunbeam -> RE: What Are Your Favorite Carman Songs? (4/9/2008 12:02:32 AM)

My mom tried desperately to get me into Carmen. It was like she was saying, "Look, dear, its a cool christian artist!" Unknowingly, implying that I shouldn't think it was corny. She even bought one of his records for me and my sibs, I listened to it a total of .03 times. Yep, that's right, I didn't even finish side one of the cassette. Quite frankly, I hated his music and thought it was really corny--it was like, "Hey kids! I'm Christian, and I'm cool! Look at me! [insert annoying Barney or Krusty the Clown laugh]." Sorry humble, I have no favorites. But, I'm sure he was doing great stuff for kids. [:)]

Well I'm not saying it's his cheesiest song, but when I do my strikingly accurate Carman impression I use the line "you drink this stuff, next day you'd be a frog". The cheese crown IMO actually goes to "The Resurection Rap" hands down.

'You listen up, this is Major C' [sm=sly.gif]

Although he does sum up the New Testament in the last line of the first verse:

'know that Christ is the Son of God. Word!'

OK, my bad, I did not see the period after the first 2 songs. For the record, I did think that Satan Bite The Dust was quite cheesy.

He had better stuff during his earlier years... Kinda reminds me when I was a teen and an adult tried to get me into Keith Green. I did end up liking his stuff, however when your favorites at the time were like Tears For Fears, and bands like that, it can be a hard sell for a 70's artist, Keith Green.
