Which one do you want? Or heck, I can give them both to you. I even have a spare wireless card if you want it.

D'oh! I was just working on clearing a workspace last night to work on them. We'd had our windows replaced in the apt so it's been a big mess recently.

That said, 'grats on the new laptop. I'd take the old one for parts but the Mrs. would kill me. ;)

PCLinuxOS 2007 is my distro of choice http://www.pclinuxos.com/

It works out of the box and is new Linux user friendly. No CLI necessary. Another good site to visit is http://distrowatch.com/ Try their top 10 recommended distros.
Like PCLos most have a live cd so you can see if it works before you do an install.

Cheers,
Jon

ok, everybody - here's a list of distros I've tried so far:

Kubuntu 8.04 - I like it. I dl'd it with KDE 3 (wasn't sure if 4 was truly "ready"), and I've been playing with it, getting used to the environment.

I also dl'd Xubuntu - to try out the Xfce interface. This seems like a pretty good package to run on an older system with less RAM.

Xandros 4.0 - Frankly, I think I like this one better than Ubuntu/Kubuntu. I don't like the fact that it's just a 30-day trial, and I'd have to pay $99 to use it beyond that, but it seems closest to the XP environment I'm so used to.

Freespire - I dl'd this one on the recommendation of a friend. It's alright - it's just Ubuntu with KDE, and an app loader (getter?) called CNR. I didn't have great luck with CNR, however.

Pioneer Linux - meh. This is a distro from technalign, and they're pushing hardware preloaded with "their" version. I wasn't all that impressed.

Mandriva - Seemed too complicated for a newbie like myself.

Once I get used to Kubuntu (I'm just going to stick with it), I'll load it on my main system as a dual-boot with XP, and use the Linux environment more for working on-line, until eventually I don't need XP anymore.
