Austraila, yes someday.

I have a love/hate relationship with Chicago. Sometimes I like it and other times I think that it is too business like instead.

Well, can't afford the trip ... but maybe I should start digging. Someone once told me that if I dug a hole through the earth, I would end up in your home town!

Man, Di, you just shattered my childhood illusion - I always thought I would end up in China if I dug deep enough! Trish, there are a lot of places I would love to visit someday, like Ireland, Germany, Alaska, and New Zealand (just because I fell in love with it after Lord of the Rings), but I don't really know anything about Australia. If I could get there, what would be the places you would like to show off? All I know are glimpses from Discovery or National Geographic, so I have an impression of a beautiful coral reef full of sharks, and a hot, dry desert area. Tell me more, what is it really like?

Finally got the kayaks out of the garage and onto the water this weekend. I love to kayak, but it's getting kind of depressing, the water level is even lower than last year. I was in a channel with steel sea walls; the level of my shoulders would have been six feet under water in the good old days. Not only has our precipitation been very low for several years, but the Army Core of Engineers also dug too deeply in the St. Clair River, and the current scoured out a new channel, so the rate of water flow from the upper great lakes to the lower is highly accelerated. Like somebody pulled the drain plug. it's a real bummer.

LOL, I ran my hiney off tonight, too - it was our first game for the church softball league. Unfortunately, no matter how hard I run my hiney off, there's still an overabundance present.

As to our slightly controversial topic, apparently I started it with my reference to getting lost in Chicago. I meant no harm. However, after reading all the impassioned posts about how great some cities are, I just want to get on my soapbox for a little and say you can have 'em. I've lived in a city or two, and was miserable. No place to breathe, no place for privacy, no place to get away from people! Ugh. I will cheerfully drive 15 miles to church and the grocery store, even at these prices, just don't ever ask me to live in a city again. It's ok to go visit for shopping or to see relatives, but I can't relax until I get out of town. And this opinion is based on my own experiences, no media for me, thank you.

I get fresh air when I open my windows, I can sleep without being disturbed by a neighbor's music, I can watch the deer cross the fields. I can practice my archery or plink with my .22 and nobody cares. I can see a sunset flung wide across the sky, or gaze spellbound at so many stars, I feel as though gravity let's go, and I can fall up into the heavens. I hope I die quickly of a sudden condition while still fully capable so I never have to live in a senior housing condo or the like. . . . .ok, taking a deep breath now.

Anyways, how is everyone doing? We're getting our first hot weather, are y'all ready for summer?

I have my AC on against my better judgement!

This weekend was Relay for Life again ... this time I stayed out and regretted it! I am allergic to grass pollen and underestimated the effect it would have on me!

I always thought that if you dug through the earth you'd end up at China. Lots of people always told me that.

There's so many places to go to, depending on the sorts of things that you like. The Sydney Harbour Bridge that you can climb over. Has a fantastic view from up the top there, I hear. Steve Irwin's "Australia Zoo". There's the Great Barrier Reef. Areas to go skiing in New South Wales, Canberra and Victoria during the winter months. Hot, dry desert areas in the middle of Australia. Lots of wildlife. Some of the Aboriginal people will teach you about bush tucker (bush food) from the plants, animals etc in nature. You can go panning for gold in Victoria. There are places where there are crocs and sharks. There's kangaroos and koalas, but not walking down the street. There's so many things for so many people, all depending on the things that you like. Lots of places to go hiking, camping, shopping, travelling, sightseeing, swimming. There's so much coastline around Australia that it's not hard to find somewhere to swim. Lots of hostels, hotels, farmstays etc, depending on the type of accommodation you're looking for.

Yikes to the allergy, Di!

It all depends on at what angle you dig.

My in-laws spent something like 3 weeks in Australia last year (November) and 2 weeks in New Zealand. We think of Australia as this mid-sized island, but it's about the size of the US! Lots of different climates, like how the US has a variety, too.

They sampled roasted kangaroo tail while they were there. Oh, and they were offered some type of grub (live), but declined.

Ah, the old witchetty grub. Can't say I could bring myself to eat them, especially if they were still live.

Tricia, what did your in laws think of Australia and New Zealand? What parts of those countries did they go to?

I don't recall where they went exactly. In New Zealand they went to Christchurch, Wellington, some tourist town where everything has "Bull" (I think) in the name, a glacier, snorkeling, and on some boat/river cruise.

In Australia they went to Sydney, Cairns, Ayers Rock, the Devil's Marbles... not sure where else.

They had a good time; they discovered that the area is expensive, though, so they didn't bring home many souvenirs. We got a deck of playing cards from Fiji (their layover on the trip home).

I know those places. New Zealand can be very expensive, and depending on where you go in Australia, that can be pretty expensive too.

Funny this should come up just now....I was looking through the job openings at the National Environmental Health website, just hoping and dreaming that there was someplace for me to go. And there is - New Zealand! LOL. There's an opening in Christchurch. I looked through the webiste a little, and it seems like a beautiful place.

Of course, I could never move that far away from my family, but it was fun to dream for a little.

I've always loved the name Christchurch. There is a house of worship in my area that is called Christ Church. The name says it all ...

I'm busy trying to get my neighbors to my house for "power cooking clinic ..." if nothing else, it should be a fun opportunity for neighbors to get together. The idea is to learn how to save time and money by making 3 meals at once and putting them in the freezer. I'm holding it open on my web site for 10 days while I'm gone and sending recipes to people who order but don't show up in person.

My feeble attempt to make up for some lost income ...

Tink, PM me the name of your PC rep and/or the area you're from, will you? I stole this idea online and there are a few sister consultants who have done the same ... I'm wondering if you're one of their invitees?

OH ... and they say these recipes are "about $2 a serving" which means, in theory, the groceries should cost me $24 for the three meals. I don't know where those people shop because I'm able to put these meals together for a little over $1 per serving!

My problem is I don't have a lot of customers ... and most of them are invited to or holding shows in June! So I don't want to take anything away from my hosts!

Hmmm.... Sounds like people have been having busy lives. Can't say that mine's been quiet or boring. For the last month or so, my post has been the Death Row. Unfortunately, the State of Nebraska isn't doing anything but debating how 'humane' Death Row is. And, two of these guys have been on Death Row for more than 15 years! I can't imagine how the family and friends of their victims feel about this 'prolonged justice.' And, a couple of the guys are very demanding. Sheeesshhh!

I'm done moving my stuff, thanks to help from my fiance' and my parents. But, the job isn't totally over... I still have a lot of unpacking and sorting to do! Definitely not high on my 'must do fun list.'

Things are slowly getting finalized for our wedding... And, the oven timer is going off, letting me know that my food is finished in the slow cooker. So, I'll come back and post more later.

In Christ,

RC

It is a nice name, I believe that there is one by that name in Nashville as well.

Hey RC, it is good to see you!

For those who are interested, I made a number of entries in Yahoo 360 blog, including some major venting this morning. Basically, two articles really put me in a sour mood (one on a man in a hit-and-run and no one tried to help him, and a Breakpoint article). I guess that it doesn't help me much that I work with those who often enjoy disregarding others....

There is snow is some of the eastern states of Australia, but not in my state. I've never been over there when it's been snowing. Just like it snows in different parts of New Zealand, but never in the parts that I was in.

Christchurch is like a small version of England, so I hear. Lots of stone buildings and a lot of British people living there. It does get snow there too.

Hi Ray. Good to see you.

Ray, I feel for you, but remind me to wait a while before checking out your blog. My mother was killed by a hit and run driver, so I do not think I could get through reading the article you mentioned. Too many memories, KWIM?

Things are slowly getting finalized. There are a number of small details that Sharon and I still have to take care of, like gifts for the parents, best man, etc. But, for the most part, everything else is pretty much taken care of.
