The Diplomats will be in Branson Mo. June 7-8-9 at the River Front Playhouse doing 4 shows a day. If you are going to be in that area would love to see you

robertyork -> RE: The Diplomats Thread (5/5/2008 6:01:55 PM)

That's a long way from home. Y'all have a great time up there and be safe. Be careful driving back home and take care of Ms Rita.

robertyork -> RE: The Diplomats Thread (5/5/2008 7:23:30 PM)

See in another thread where the old bass singer for the Diplomats in going to be a daddy again. Pat, He is now with the Dixie Echoes. This will be his second.

Lordy, I about had a heart attack. I thought you were calling Joe Brown an old bass singer and that he was having another child!!!! I didn't know the Dips before Joe joined the group!

robertyork -> RE: The Diplomats Thread (5/6/2008 8:05:21 AM)

That's the reason I said who it was. Didn't want anyone to think Joe was having one. Pat Barker, sang with the Dips a while ago. There was at least one or maybe two basses between Pat and Joe.

Cory might have even sang bass. [:D]

[:o] Oh my! I thought the same thing, Dinana! We'd have to start calling Joe & Debbie "Abe & Sarrie" !!![:D]

The Dips have had some great bass vocalists over the years...

Tommy Smith
Jerry Tew
Pat Barker
Kevin Cooke
Joe Brown

I remember that there was a great one WAY back in the old Diplomats group, but his name isn't coming to my brain this AM!! These are the ones, though, that I remember since Jim & Rita started using the Diplomats name again back in the early 90s.

robertyork -> RE: The Diplomats Thread (5/6/2008 8:32:01 AM)

Thanks Charlie....Guess Kevin was the only one between Pat and Joe.

BigCntry -> RE: The Diplomats Thread (5/8/2008 9:24:45 AM)

The guys had a great day of singing here in Branson yesterday. Bad weather led to small crowds, but those who were here enjoyed it. For jchaz, the same sound man as last year helped set the sound and it is very good. Hoping for better weather and turnout today. By the way, a man Jimmy sng with in the early 60's came with his wife yesterday, they live in the area now. Small world huh?!

robertyork -> RE: The Diplomats Thread (5/8/2008 9:31:18 AM)

Was hoping someone would come and give us a report about Branson. Know everyone is having a BLAST there. Take care of Mama Rita don't want anything to happen to her. I thought jchaz was probably with y'all again this.

BigCntry -> RE: The Diplomats Thread (5/8/2008 9:39:11 AM)

jchaz couldn't come because of school and such. Missed that late night co-pilot duty he pulled last year. Looks like its time to get back over to the park. Have a good day !

robertyork -> RE: The Diplomats Thread (5/8/2008 9:46:01 AM)

I thought by your first post that he was with you. Must have misread it.

jchaz -> RE: The Diplomats Thread (5/8/2008 12:42:56 PM)

Nope, didn't get to go this time. I'm missing it BAD, though. I did, however talk to CoCo yesterday, and he said it wuz raining BIG! I'm NOT missing that! There's nothing any worse than an amusement park when it rains. 'Course, the good part is, it runs the people into the shows that they otherwise might skip. Been praying that The Dips get to point many people to Christ on this trip. This festival at SDC isn't quite like The SG Picnic.... They are the ONLY Gospel act in the park this week. (That's an honor, I'm sure, but it's also a challenge, having to compete with all the secular acts...)

I'm sure my buddy Dave (the SDC sound dude) is doing an awesome job with the audio-- but I really wish it wuz me pushing the faders!!

CoCo said that DA Callaway (the guy that books the talent in at SDC) spent the day with them yesterday. He could've spent time with many other acts, but he chose to hang with The Dips. What does THAT tell you?

BigCntry-- I missed waking up in Memphis, too... (HaHaHA!) You ride those rails careful, and bring my adopted 'family' home safe. I love you all!!

BC, --- Is Sheri still there, or has she already moved to Nashville? I wasn't sure when she was leaving Branson for NashVegas!

BTW-- Foster and I DID get to spend last weekend in Nashville . I was running sound for Ann Downing's Middle TN Women's Retreat. Got to run sound for songwriter, Marty Funderburk; Worship leader, Sheri Thrower (who also sings with Phil Cross & his wife sometimes); one of my childhood favorites, Candy Hemphill Christmas; and the one and only JOHN STARNES! (Who is now not only a great singer and minister, he's a stand-up comic...

"PeeAhhhnnnnn-Oh!-- Huh!" <--- JS does a black preacher imitation that's SO funny!!!

Oh, well, didn't mean to write an epistle...

BigCntry -> RE: The Diplomats Thread (5/9/2008 8:09:25 AM)

jchaz--we haven't seen Sherry, she's still here but she's tied up at the "Holler". Better weather and crowds yesterday. Hoping for even better today. We'll be loading and going after four this afternoon.

robertyork -> RE: The Diplomats Thread (5/10/2008 11:47:52 AM)

Know they need a days rest after being in Branson for three days singing.

bulba2 -> RE: The Diplomats Thread (5/10/2008 7:31:00 PM)

We got back this morning about 8 am , leaving soon going to Empire Ga
If you haven't ever been to Branson at Silver Dollar City you need to try to get there sometimes. We did 12 shows out there this week and met many new friends which comes from all over the U.S. and other country. Southern Gospel is very strong in that area. It was a shock to me, during one of our shows I notice some people sitting in the crowd that look very familiar , It was my old bass singer that was in the very first group when I started singing, Levon Bean is his name and I haven't seen him in over 35 yrs. it was a great supprise. Robert a big thanks for the support you are putting out for our Homecoming coming up in June.

robertyork -> RE: The Diplomats Thread (5/13/2008 8:36:24 PM)

Hope the Diplomats are enjoying a day or two of rest after singing so much in Branson.

jchaz -> RE: The Diplomats Thread (5/14/2008 8:27:55 AM)

They were only home a few hours before leaving for South GA. Their homes were right in the middle of the tornado activity, but according to Corey, the didn't hardly get any damage -- just a few trees down. Their neighbors didn't fare so well. They were shaken up by the death of Miss Dotte, too. They had just been in that same general area in Missouri just a day or so earlier.

bulba2 -> RE: The Diplomats Thread (5/15/2008 10:16:59 AM)

The Diplomats would like to thank all our friends who has help make this year so far a milestone in our ministry. It was a great honor to be in the top 10 mixed group this year we feel very humble. We also would like for you to keep praying for not just us but every group who is spreading the gospel thru song, that God will keep his hand on them.
Just keep in mind as supporters of the greatest music in the world to put in a little extra effort of support as we all fight the price of fuel . Satan would love to see groups fall and give up, but our motto as Christains should be " Win The Lost at Any Cost "
Thanks so Much

I finally got to hear them a few weeks ago. I 'm big fan now for sure they were great. It was the best singing I had been to in a long time.

How long have the Diplomats been singing? I didn't think about it until someone was listing the previous singers in the group. I only heard of them recently.
