Great post, OneOfHisJewels! This is very, very interesting learning about everyone's denomination. Seems like many are non-denominational. quote:
ORIGINAL: OneOfHisJewels I'm Orthodox Presbyterian (conservative, reformed in its views). Is that kind of like PCA? I used to have a good friend who was PCA. quote:
No, but I would have a really hard time with a spouse who was cessationist. I'd probably fit best with someone whose belief in God, Jesus, and the working of Holy Spirit is similar to mine. Hello, RGod! How are you? What does "cessationist" mean? I'm Southern Baptist. Have been all my life. But the church I belong to is seeker sensitive also and is probably a lot more like a non-denominational church than a traditional SBC church. I really love the way people are expressive in worship, which has become very, very important to me. I think my denomination as a whole treats singles well; most larger SBC churches have singles ministries, and I think the denomination recognizes singles' unique needs and seeks to minister to them. However, my church is another story. It's very, very focused on ministering to families and almost anti-single. But I'm attending a women's life group that started last summer and is almost entirely single, and the leader said we are really making the church leadership take notice because we "get it" as far as how small groups are supposed to function. So hopefully that will change the way families in our church view singles. I don't feel like a fifth wheel, though. The married folks in the church are very friendly and accepting of me; they just think the church should focus all its resources on ministering to married couples and their children.[&:] I don't have to marry someone who's SBC, but I'd be selective about what denomination he was; it would have to be conservative evanglical. I'd be willing to switch in that case. And I really love the qualities Joy2Give2You mentioned: quote:
A man who will listen, with excitement, when I share the things God is showing me, who has enough faith and trust in my walk with the Lord, to believe God is speaking to me even if he doesn't hear God the same way I do.
