The one band I am really hooked on right now is Skillet. There latest album is awesome. Secular wise my son has me hooked on Linkin Park. It is not their new one that I have heard is not as clean as their older ones.
I used to listen to stryper! I did not know they were still around. I wish Metallica was christian. Them and Nirvana were my favorite bands until I got saved.
If you like Linkin Park listen to P.O.D. (but not their latest). Equivalent to Metallica (early Kill 'em All stuff) is a band called Eternal Decision. Decemberadio and Fighting Instinct are like good hard edged rock. Thousand Foot Krutch is worthy of a listen too! You might want to listen to band called Warrior too! "Fighting for the Earth" and "The Code of Life" are great metal with a subtle Christian feel in their lyrics. If you were into Black Sabbath listen to the first two albums by Trouble, "Psalm 9" and "The Skull" (although their next two are less Christian in content but good musically).
I would also recommend Chevelle too. Older Christian metal like Bloodgood and Bride are good too even if their sound may be a little dated.

I wouldn't classify Chevelle as Christian, as even they say it was sort of a "mistake" that they even signed to a Christian label initially. Also, when I attended a concert of their's about 2 years ago, it was full of profanities and actually offended me, considering that I expected them to resist that type of thing.
Uh, but yeah... I'll recommend my favorites to ya:

I say buy the "Set It Off" CD by Thousand Foot Krutch. I found out that they put their first 2 cd's "Set It Off" and "That's What People Do" and remastered them for Tooth & Nail, so I'll buy it, but the orginals sound like Linkin Park. So I bt its better remastered.

Man, I loved "End of Grey" by Decyfer Down, but it's so short and left me wanting more... and now I've had to wait so long. They're on tour with Skillet and TFK now, so maybe they'll be working on something after that.

I wouldn't either, given that would be a false statement.
I was led to believe they were of the 'Christian' genre after being told they had won some 'Christian' award. Then I viewed some live shows, and yeah, definitely not.
It's easy to be deceived into thinking that what you're listening to, although proclaimed to be 'Christian', may not be so.

Eternal Decision is the closest to Metallica, but I'd say more like the Black album than Kill Em All. It's largely because of the singer's voice. They never get to the true thrash of Metallica and aren't as technical but I like em. They've got 3 albums and are no longer active, but you can find their page on myspace to listen to some songs.
I'd recommend Boarders also, which have a sound similar to Megadeth. They even covered In My Darkest Hour (2 versions actually).
There's a ton a decent bands out there. I can't keep up with them all (I'm in radio). It appears you've gotten quite a few suggestions already so your head is probably swimming already. You may want to listen to one of the Christian rock online stations some day to get a taste, but they don't play the best stuff IMHO.

a band that I feel sounds like Metallica sometimes is "Breaking the Silence"
They actually have a female vocalist and a male vocalist. The male vocals are very similar to 'Tallica. I have their album called "Stand" and it has a few songs that I really like. I really don't like the female vocals, because they just aren't good... but maybe they'll let the guy do all the singing on the next one.

The closest to Christian Grunge would be Starflyer 59 and "Falls Apart" by Thousand Foot Krutch.

Are there any bands out there that still play Melodic Heavy Metal in the same style as Stryper, Whitecross, Barren Cross. I dont even want to here the word dated if you dont want my opinion on Nu Metal and grunt and puke Metal lol. Are there any bands out there that still use those long screams like Michael Sweet and Les Carlson from Bloodgood used to do? That was Screamo to me lol and I miss it. By the way someone said on here PODs new cd wasnt any good have they dropped there Christian influences and message? Or is it just the same old Korn Metal fusion?

POD's new CD absolutely DOES NOT drop their Christian influence. I think their lyrics are some of the most blantently Christian mainstream rock radio lyrics there are. Some reviews say that Mike Muir of Suicidal Tendencies drops the word "d**m" on the fifth track, but I don't hear that at all, so I'm confused where they're getting that from. Whatever the case. POD was on Rockline the week their CD was released, and I think the host was getting slightly irritated at how much they talked about their faith being the center of everything they do.
You need to remember that POD is marketed towards the mainstream, and they don't care to work in the Christian market, because they are an outreach. The guys in that band have good hearts, but in the rock music world, it's a stigma to have the "Christian" label attached to your band. The same is not really true for Top 40 radio these days, because plenty of Christian artists get play there from time to time.
That's my rant!

Jacob's Dream is the only one that comes to mind. If you liked Creed you'll like it's new inception of Alter Bridge. Different singer but he even sounds like Scott Stapp. Tremonti's guitar solos on the "Blackbird" CD are awesome. I know I mentioned Warrior before. 12 Stones is more rock oriented with a little southern flavor.
P.O.D. didn't drop the message but their music on the latest left me wanting. I only really like three songs on this latest one. I have P.O.D. from"Snuff the Punk" onward but I'd even rather listen to that rawer early stuff than this too polished album.

Not necessarily hard rock, although they do have some rocking songs...but Anathallo are one of the best Christian bands I've encountered in my life time. I haven't kept up much with their recent material, as I lost a bit of interest...but their earlier stuff, in particular Sparrows...fantastic.

I checked out the myspace for Boarders. They're great. Although I do think changing the lyrics to In My Darkerst Hour is kinda gay. They should do a cover of Ashes In Your Mouth or New World Order.

Grammatrain was sorta pop grunge or grunge lite.
And that is every bit as good as it sounds.

I would classify TFK's "Set if Off" as more rock-rap! It actually IMO was and still is their best!

Thanx for the advice on the bands people! Will check them out I do happen to like Creed I have never listend to Alter Bridge ive always been a Stapp fan over the replacement singer if Alter Bridge is that good I will give them a listen. I listen to secular music too im pretty much aware of all the Melodic Metal groups there. It just doesnt seem as prevalent in Christian Rock anymore. It all pretty much seems to be down toned 3 chord screamo emo alternative music I miss a good ripping guitar solo a good ear piercing scream like the beginning of Surrender by Stryper. Man that was Metal music too me thats what I miss the most.
