I'm sad to hear such a negative comment. I've seen nothing but good come from this book. We’ve visited Saddleback and were very impressed with the way they are trying to reach and help people. It's disheartening to read such harsh criticism from some people. Out of the abundance of the mouth the heart speaks. I think if I continue to use this forum, I'll block such negative posters from dampening my spirit. Jesus came to set the captives free.

You simply block people you disagree with? Goodness. Sorry I can't have my own opinion about a book.

Funny,

I'll assume Those who have stated concerns for Warrens book do so because of the gospel he presents is man-centered instead of Theocentric. I'm afraid many who read his book will believe just a simple formula of accepting Christ without any repentance of a sinful life is the way to God. This isn't scriptural. I do believe some will come to genuine salvation through a seed planted in his book, but many I believe will miss the true gospel because of his mis-quoting of scripture and his deliberate deletion of important scriptures that lead to true repentance and salvation.

I left a PD church for these reasons and I'm very glad I did. Scripture tells us that preachers and teachers of scripture are held to a high account than others in the Kingdom. I'll also ask you to research Rick Warren for those he surrounds himself with. He is dangerously heading towards a pluralism within the church and this can only be accomplished by compromising the Gospel. Please be careful.

All this is said in love for those who may be decieved.

Rick

I wasn't impressed or offended by his book. We used it in small group study and it was ok...some parts was uplifting, but I could also see why it could mislead a young believer into thinking there is an easy answer to everything, when we know there isn't.

I wouldn't recommend it to a new believer...but I would recommend ANYTHING Yancy or Lucado has written.

I started the book and put it down because Warren repeatedly took things out of context, as Ben has spelled out. It all looks good, but his message isn't consistent with the Bible and teaches the immature that it's OK to let the Bible say what ever you want to make it say as long as it looks godly. It's a shame that the church is promoting such awful theology when we ought to be giving pure milk and discipleship to each other until we can take meat.

I would put it in the trash immediately and learn how to study your Bible on its own (preferable inductively.) Get what God says from His own lips as your first line of figuring out your purpose.

I have read the book and didn't care for it much at all. I already knew what God's purpose for my life was beforehand. The book came across as boring to me.

However, I can see value in it--especially concerning new Christians.

I'm not really a big Rick Warren fan anyways...

But I will say this--I prefer Warren's book, "The Purpose Driven Church" over "The Purpose Driven Life."

To funny girl and others please dont think of the comments to being negative, but the challenge of making your faith stronger by taking the comments and using the bible and the material and use scripture as the judge. 3:16 od 2nd Timothy "All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for correction for training in righteousness; so that the man pf God may be adequate, equipped for every good work."
And let me state that just because an author or teacher has a positive , moving, uplifting and life altering message doesnt mean it is from God. For the devil is the prince of lies and will even use a bit of truth. He knows the Bible better than we do, this is why we must hold all teachings in light of scripture. Like the Bereans in the book of acts in whom Paul commended for doing just that.
