PawPaw -> The Ride - THE HOPPERS (4/15/2008 9:38:02 AM)

Some time back, we purchased a copy of "The Ride," by the Hoppers. Ever since "Power," and probably even before that, the Hoppers have consistently produced outstanding projects...strong songs, great vocals, and exceptional tracks.

Each vocalist has their own unique style. Connie Hopper has the most "comfortable" sounding voice of anybody in gospel music. I love the way she interprets a song...soft, easy, yet powerful. Kim's strong lead/saprano gives power to the group, yet she can sing at almost a whisper. Dean is probably one of the most underrated singers in gospel music. He certainly qualifies for the "best lead singer." Claude's dry wit and humor, along with his gentleman's voice makes me hope he will grace the stage for years to come. Mike's selected vocals are also appreciated. Each group member compliments the other. So far, this group has provided some of my favorite concert experiences.

From beginning to end, The Ride is an outstanding performance. From convention style "Freedom Band" to the powerful remake of "That's Him," this is one project in which I listen to every song without skipping over any of them.

Congratulations to the Hoppers for 50 years! I hope they make 50 more!

It is great to see an album that has been out since the fall of 2006 still generate this kind of response. Signs of a landmark album indeed!! [sm=thumbsup.gif]

I loved "The Ride", but I cannot understand how Yahweh can be #9 on Singing News' May 2008 "New Releases" chart. Can someone explain this to me???

dbmurray -> RE: The Ride - THE HOPPERS (4/15/2008 10:49:56 AM)

A record label doesn't release all the songs on an album to radio at once. They are spaced out strategically to keep the artist on the charts at all times.

"Yahweh" (I assume) is the most recent single being pushed to radio by the Hoppers...therefore, it's on the New Release chart.

youngartist -> RE: The Ride - THE HOPPERS (4/15/2008 11:32:59 AM)

I wasn't sure if Donna was asking how a 2006 song can be a "new release," or if she was asking how it was just #9 instead of a Top 5 release.

BTW, I think "The Ride" is hands-down the Hoppers best overall project.

I've heard perhaps ten Hoppers projects, as well as various compilations, so my experience is limited. But within my limited experience--I would definitely agree. It's good.

Okay. That makes some sense! So, they can just decide which individual songs to release as singles whenever they want, huh. Okay. (I'm obviously just talkin' to myself and myself thinks it makes sense now[8D])

Yes. Also, the longer time they wait between albums, the more songs that they'll send to radio from The Ride.

I know that from time to time, I've wished the Perrys would wait just a little longer between albums, long enough to send a song or two to radio. For example, I would have loved to hear "Until I Start Looking Ahead," "We Will Be Changed," and "Walk Away Free" hit radio.

"We Will Be Changed" seriously needs to be done by the Kingdom Heirs. I've said that for a long time.

That was one of the first things that Adam and I discussed and decided after we joined this board.

You know, I'd like to see it enough that I think I'll email a request to Steve French. I think it will be the first time I've ever sent a pro artist a request like that, but there's always a first time. :)

Good idea!

PawPaw -> RE: The Ride - THE HOPPERS (4/15/2008 1:36:17 PM)

Was it really released in 2006? Unbelievable!

hopperfan -> RE: The Ride - THE HOPPERS (4/15/2008 2:27:11 PM)

Yes I agree that the Ride is a wonderful CD!! Each song is great, my favorites are He Erased It, The Dove, and Yahweh. I do agree PawPaw, Dean is one of the most underrated singers in Southern Gospel Music...I have nominated him for Favorite Male Vocalist numerous times but he has never made it on the list.

PaulPate -> RE: The Ride - THE HOPPERS (4/15/2008 2:41:23 PM)

I wish there were some way that all songs on an album could be played on radio. Although I go to a good number of concerts, there are several groups that never come close enough for me to go to their concerts.. I often see songs discussed on this forum that I have never heard. I can't afford to buy that many CD's.

PawPaw -> RE: The Ride - THE HOPPERS (4/16/2008 9:07:10 AM)

Well...if you are going to buy anything, "The Ride" should be one pick.

Kerrlaw -> RE: The Ride - THE HOPPERS (4/16/2008 4:51:26 PM)

The Ride may be my favorite all time album.

Jess77 -> RE: The Ride - THE HOPPERS (4/16/2008 9:03:57 PM)

That is my favorite CD as well. And the DVD is amazing too! [:D]

Gospeldrummer -> RE: The Ride - THE HOPPERS (4/16/2008 10:40:56 PM)

The Ride is an excellent project, not a bad selection on the whole CD. I'm Just Waiting on My Ride is my favorite song on it but also like He Erased It, The Dove and many others.

bigboytenor -> RE: The Ride - THE HOPPERS (4/17/2008 12:03:07 AM)

I love "The Ride". I've had it for over a decade. Oh, wait, we're not talking about the project by the CCM group 4 Him, are we? My bad. Still love it, though.[;)]

PawPaw -> RE: The Ride - THE HOPPERS (4/17/2008 8:56:17 AM)

I've always appreciated the message in "That's Him." The remake on this project is incredible.

It's no sin to be stuck in the 90s, bigboy.[sm=cooltilt.gif]

Some of us are still in the 70s.[sm=hippiesmile.gif]
