An hour before church starts we pray for about 30 minutes or so. Its up to you if you wanna join in or come to church that early. We pray for about 15minutes before choir rehearsal. The length of prayer is totaly up to you. I do believe that God speaks to us if we just listen. He does speak to us through scripture as well. As a babe in christ, I am learning that he can speak to us you just have to open up and listen to him.

Yes, He does speak to us. In that still quiet voice in our hearts (or mind some would say), but you've got to be quiet and listen usually.

Long prayers are not bad. If we are praying in a group, we should consider others that want to pray also. The motive of our heart is what counts and God knows our heart better than we do ourselves. Praying alone in our prayer closet is between us and God. It's ok to pray long prayers, but we also want to be silent at times so that we can hear what God wants to say to us. Prayer is a two way conversation. Never feel bad if you have a lot to say to God, He understands and wants to know what's on our heart. He wants us to listen too so that we can find guidance and wisdom from Him. God loves us more than we can comprehend.

I don't think the length of pray affects the sincerity. I tend to be a to the point kind of person so my prayers are usually short but those who are much more verbal in their expression my have longer prayers -- neither is better or worse. Also, depends on when you think the prayer ends, as often, my short prayers tend to be a conversation with God through out the day everyday. So that would be exceeding long but short too...too paradoxial for me!

a church I went to a few years ago, at the end of the sermon, the preacher would do a "pastoral prayer" this prayer was a culmination of all the events, -world, local, future - all the prayer requests, - community, national, international, personal, etc. - , praises, and thank-yous ... and soooo much more. this prayer (every week) sometimes went on for 20+ minutes. Some of it was obviously being read off off a page, some of it didn't make very much sense, some of it (imo) was rambling on and on. every Sunday school class started with the class in some way, ridiculing that prayer... some discussion of what was actually said or meant, comments on recording these prayers and selling them as a cure for insomnia. whether the prayer was from a sincere heart, or done for show, or some kind of ritual, I cannot say. all I can say is that this kind of long prayer was not good at all.
