One thing I wish they would do on there is allow you to see where the voting currently stands.

...but that would ruin the suspense and excitement in waiting for the final results to come out!

That's true. It's just that I have gotten spoiled by all of the online polls that do let you see the current voting results. [:D]

I subscribed at the Triumphant concert back end of March so I haven't received my account info yet...meaning I can't vote...hope I get it soon enough to vote![8D]

Lynn, I did the same as you. Wonder if we called SN they would tell us our new account number?
I had emailed them regarding the account number last week before I packed up my computer and the response I got was that it could take up to 8 weeks to get the subscriptions started....[:@] So I hope we can get in the voting somewhere during the process.

For the sake of the innocent bystanders, I should note that, of course, that category doesn't exist.[8D]

Since at least one person from the SN staff reads this forum, it might be a category next year! [:D]

youngartist -> RE: Singing News Fan Awards-Voting OnLine (4/17/2008 9:25:53 AM)

They did it a year or two ago and Greater Vision won. The applause was almost non-existent. Gerald laughed about that and said it's because nobody there knew what the web was. [:D]

DeeAnnBailey -> RE: Singing News Fan Awards-Voting OnLine (4/17/2008 9:31:55 AM)

It would be neat to see if the numbers voted on the web were different from what comes in the mail votes. Somehow I think you might see different results on the web from the mail but I could be wrong.

THE SINGING NEWS IS IN THIS CATEGORY FOR THE DIAMOND AWARDS WHICH ARE PRESENTED THE WEEK OF THE CONVENTION.

I think it might only be the hard-core fans like us that will vote online but I could be wrong.

Your probably right about that. I may be wrong but I would venture to guess the Singing News will still receive more paper ballots than on-line votes.

Jeff_from_Kentucky -> RE: Singing News Fan Awards-Voting OnLine (4/17/2008 9:52:12 AM)

They probably will. It will be interesting to see if they release the numbers so we can know what percentage voted online and what percentage voted by paper. If enough vote online, they may switch to only online voting in the future.

That would be an interesting statistic to know.

At least for this year, a lot of folks that might vote online, still don't come to the SN website a lot so they may not realize they can.

I hope that the voting process eventually becomes on-line only. That could really change the nomination process. We could begin seeing some different outcomes.

I think you're right, and I'd be the first to tell you I don't like seeing one group or artist win year after year after year, but I do appreciate the generally-conservative voting bloc represented at NQC and at the Fan Awards. I'd hate to see only progressive groups dominate every category - which is possible if the traditionalists abstain from voting altogether.

I don't know, maybe I'm off my rocker.

Ilurk -> RE: Singing News Fan Awards-Voting OnLine (4/17/2008 3:10:45 PM)

I like voting on the computer, but I hope that the contemporary groups like Gaithers Vocal Band and Signature Sound don't take over. I think more young people will vote on computers than some of my friends.

Jeff_from_Kentucky -> RE: Singing News Fan Awards-Voting OnLine (4/17/2008 3:53:03 PM)

I don't know. I think there are enough of us older folks around who can keep the traditional quartet sound alive.

As long as it is a true representation of the vote I don't mind who the winners are..[;)]

That's a good point. Doing the voting online may actually cause more subscribers to vote because it is so much easier and convenient. They could actually streamline it if they do go to all online voting so that the process doesn't have to start in March. It could actually start in June and there would still be plenty of time for everyone to vote through the three round process.

I agree, but the problem is, a good number of SG fans have never even been on the web and would not vote if it were only an online process - therefore it wouldn't be truly representative.

L5FanLady -> RE: Singing News Fan Awards-Voting OnLine (4/17/2008 4:57:35 PM)

So this online vote is available before the paper vote? Is that in the May issue?

But I don't think it is truly representative now, because there are plenty of subscribers who don't want to take the time to fill out a paper ballot and then have to mail it in. I guess the way it will be this year will be ideal because you have the convenience of the on-line voting for those who like that and the paper ballot for those who like that method.

No, the category was "Favorite Artist Website" - mine wouldn't have been eligible.
