Mike, according to Sears chart, you should get one that is 10,000 to 12,500 BTU to cool that square footage. So, its going to probably be around $400 - $500 to get one. On average.

Yikes, that is much out of my price range. Of course I could charge it instead, but I'd rather not. Maybe I'll just seal off a room and do it that way instead.

Well, if you were to charge it, you could pay it off as quickly as possible and the unit would certainly last more than one summer.... guess you have to decide how hot and icky it is there. I'm sure its not as bad as the South, but anything east coast is high humidity and A/C's suck the humidity out of the air too. Do they still make those units call de-humidifiers? That might be an option....

On average. What we did was get 2 a/c's at 5,000 BTU's each. I placed one on one side of the house, and the other on the other side, They do better than I expected, and they cost $160ish total.

The only thing here is that wouldn't work too well at all as one of my rooms has no windows at all. quote:
ORIGINAL: wintery hey humble, do yourself a favor and pick up a window unit. It may surprise you with how well it does. I use one to supplement or alternate with the central. Heat sneaks up on people. I wouldn't want it to happen to you. Please PM or email me (as anyone may about anything) if you have any questions about it. Thanks Wintery, I will have to see if I can cordain off a room and use AC that way instead. The humidity here has broke and it has been quite nice the past couple of days, Praise God!
