youngartist -> Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (4/17/2008 2:51:52 PM)

Was Shannon Smith of the Imperials replaced? If this is not so, someone please tell me. Any info would be appreciated.

G.I. Mom, do you know anything?

BassSingerSwain -> RE: Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (4/17/2008 6:21:08 PM)

If he has, it's the first I heard of it. What makes you think so?

youngartist -> RE: Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (4/17/2008 10:15:16 PM)

It's just an question that arose from someone who made the declaration. I don't want to start rumors so please don't assume it is so. I would just like someone with more info to comment.

Dinana -> RE: Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (5/30/2008 12:02:10 PM)

I've been told that Scott Allen (formerly and briefly with Mercy's Mark) is going to be filling in with the Imperials beginning June 6. Has anyone seen any kind of press release anywhere about this?

youngartist -> RE: Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (5/30/2008 12:05:34 PM)

So it wasn't a rumor! Wow. Thanks for the information. I would recommend that Scott be a permanent replacement - I think he would fit in quite well, how about you?

Dinana -> RE: Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (5/30/2008 12:06:45 PM)

I think he would be a great fit!!! My only problem is that their concerts are so doggone far from Georgia!!!

G.I.MOM -> RE: Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (5/30/2008 12:44:31 PM)

I have silence on the issue at this time. Only have heard rumors here. Not anywhere else. So I'll wait and listen.

It's not rumors at this point. I have written correspondence that states clearly that Scott Allen is "filling in" beginning June 6th. Now, as to whether that is permanent or not is up for clarification!

Huh.... I just saw a concert with them not long ago, and it didn't look like Shannon was going anywhere. Scott is a great singer, as is Shannon. It will be interesting to see where this goes.

dbmurray -> RE: Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (5/31/2008 12:21:58 PM)

Daniel Mount has confirmed that Smith is leaving the Imperials to become a minister of music. See: http://www.southerngospelblog.com/archives/859

In the entire history of the Imperials, the longest the group has ever gone with no changes at any vocal position is five years. This most recent lineup matched that record.

Sherman Andrus was with the group from 1971 to 1976, while the other three singers (Armond Morales, Terry Blackwood, and Jim Murray) were there before and after.

Russ Taff and David Will joined in 1976. Taff left in 1981.

Shannon Smith, Jason Morales, and Jeremie Hudson were already in the group when Ian Owens joined in 2003, so with Smith leaving, that's another five year stretch.

In the last five years of Southern Gospel, there's been very few non-family quartets that haven't experienced at least one change. Triumphant is one.

A five year stretch is impressive. It's no secret that I'm an Imperials fan. I'm hoping to see them add someone who will make them as strong as ever. I don't expect Russ Taff to get back in the saddle, but wouldn't that be something if he did? We can dream. [:)]

I wouldn't mind seeing Scott Allen get the job. He kinda got the rug jerked from under him with the Mercy's Mark thing. He's a hidden talent!

GVfan -> RE: Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (6/1/2008 6:30:35 AM)

I think Scott Allen would be teriffic at that position "permanently"! I didn't get to hear nearly enough of him the short time he was with Mercy's Mark.

Amen. I got to hear him sing "I Bowed On My Knees" at an NQC showcase. Blew everyone away!

OK - it's now permanent!!! There's a press release over on sogospelnews.com that says -

"Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame inductees The Imperials are proud to announce the addition of vocalists Scott Allen and Perry Jones to the group. . . . More information on the group's new members will be updated on The Imperials' website shortly."

Perry is taking Jeremie Hudson's place as tenor because Jeremie is going to a church position in Alabama. Does anyone here know Perry????

I'm planning to see the Imperials in Alabama on Sept. 4.

Qtman -> RE: Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (8/21/2008 2:24:21 PM)

Since there has been an official anouncement I guess I am free to say that Shannon left the group deveral weeks ago to accept a position in a church and Jeremie left this month and is moving to Anniston Alabama to fill a position as a Praise leader at a church in that city. I wish them as well as Jason, Ian and the new Imperials the best in the future.

And Dinana I don't think I have ever heard of Perry Jones. But, I am sure he will be fine and fit with the group well.

Dinana -> RE: Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (8/21/2008 2:42:33 PM)

Yes, I know that Scott Allen started filling in with The Imperials on June 6, so Shannon has been gone for quite a while. We had heard about Jeremie but had not heard about his replacement. Do you know which church Jeremie is going to serve at??

He told me the name of it but you know me. I didn't write it down and don't remember it. I will probably hear from him in a few days and I will ask.

Dinana -> RE: Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (8/21/2008 2:53:10 PM)

Great!

crossemark -> RE: Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (8/21/2008 4:51:24 PM)

Dinana -> RE: Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (8/21/2008 4:53:23 PM)

Have you heard Perry or that group???

crossemark -> RE: Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (8/21/2008 5:00:42 PM)

BillBaileyBFAFan -> RE: Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (8/21/2008 7:52:59 PM)

Are either one of those new guys from East Tennessee. A guy I work with told me a while back, that a guy from his church was going to be singing with them. He wasnt sure if it was a fill in job or permanent.
thanks

I have, and Perry has a great sound that will fit The Imperials well.

I don't know about Perry, but Scott is from the Knoxville area. He was a worship minister at a church there (I don't remember the name of it) before he started with The Imperials, so that's probably who your friend was talking about.

G.I.MOM -> RE: Did Shannon Smith Leave The Imperials? (8/22/2008 8:15:48 AM)

Please remember Jeremie and Amanda in your prayers. This has not been easy for them. Both of their families live in the Birmingham area and they have had a real desire to be closer to them. Jeremie had a tough time singing at the fan fair in Smyrna last month. He teared up more than once and couldn't speak. They need to sell a house here in town. They both know this is a God thing in their lives.
BTW you should hear Amanda sing. She writes awesome songs, too.
I will miss them!!! But,, I know where to find them
