Hi Sharon-Marie, I mean that in the past I would have to leave work at a certain time and my boss would tell me to make a pick up that is gonna take longer than the alotted time to get there and back. When I complain he would say that it shouldn't take longer. We had fights in the past about it.[&o]

I used to work in the printing/advertising industry. most of the people are extreme Type "A" personalities. One time I had a 10 different jobs to do. When i asked the manager which one was first he told me "Everything here is a rush". When I asked which rush was first he told me they were all first. I attributed his thoughts to the fact that he didn't understand what the word "first" meant.

There's a slogan that is popular around advertising agencies..."There's never enough time to do it right,but always enough time to do it over".

My best advice to you is to do things as accurate and fast as you can. Accurate being the most important. Some people will always complain that you are too slow. Just do the best you can.

Some people have no concept of time. My present boss thinks that it will take a certain amount of time to do a job. When it takes longer I have to explain everything that I did. She will also start a two hour job a half hour before our day ends.

Thanks, I am doing that, its just that the faster that I work, I am much more prone to mistakes! Its a good thing that we usually have quality control methods which helps.

Ok, here is something that happened yesterday. I was making 2 copies for a job that was due first thing Monday AM. When doing copy jobs, we have meter counts, I was making 2 copies. Well using one of the quality control methods, while my numbers worked out ok (meaning that there were no mis-copies) the weights of the 2 copies was different, meaning that something was wrong!

Well, I proceeded to start going through it, which obviously is time consuming and slows things down! I told them why I was doing what I was doing. They just kinda frowned. Anyway, about 15 minutes into it, I found the so-called mistake. A blank sheet got through the machine and thats what through it off. Also, someone else was working on it at the time too, so in this instance it was not my fault. In fact it was nobody's fault! It still slowed things down though none the less!

Mike, that actually shows that you are conscientious with your work; I'd take that any day over speed.

Maybe we should come up with a list of jobs that would be at a slower-pace.

-library worker
-museum tour guide
-national park service employee
-farmer
-horticulturist
-archaeologist
-pet walker (well, I guess they set the pace...just advertise for slow pets only [sm=chicken.gif])

I agree it can depend on where you live. People are faster paced in bigger cities, I think.

Now those could be an option, but probably do not pay as much though. Honestly, I just assume be behind a computer screen all day having fun or at least being creative. That doesn't have to be forums at all. As a teenager, I would do this too, creating computer programs for my enjoyment. My second choice would be in Broadcasting, however that has been a tumultuous industry as of late, not that it has ever been a stable industry at all.

I forget, it seemed inconclusive, and that I should explore things that peaked my interest. It was clear though that I should not be in "fast paced", multitasking environments, or jobs that required a lot of writing. The first 2 being what part of my job is now.

I was alway thought to be slow. But what it really was that I wasn't getting it (whatever 'it' was) the way they (my teachers, my peers) wanted it. I got it. I just got it differntly. I stuggeled with for many, many, many, years (still do at times). But I have overcome most of it and has lead me to do something I never ever thought I would do with my life. And that is teaching, specificly Early Childhood Education.

Why library worker? Any job that involves lines shouldn't be on this list. Unless they have a self-checkout kiosk too. Or are you not talking about the people who check the books out?

Holy Cow, I would not give that job to someone who considers themselves slow. If you have a class of umpteen preschoolers you are constantly on the move and mulittasking! It slows down a bit at naptime, once the paperwork is done, don't fall asleep. I've done it for years and years.

Hopefully you aren't going through an accreditation process. There is one here in GA that is well meaning, I suppose, but some of their goals are impossible to meet.

[:)] Random, at our local library, all the employees move slow. It's a relaxed kind of place. There is a self-check-out for zippy people, which we use sometimes.

For returning books, I like to take my time and have my books returned by the clerk, and then I ask for a receipt. Our library has a reputation for losing books and charging the customer--they've tried this on me a couple times. If you return your books in the library bin, it's at your own risk!

If read my post correctly I thought of myself as slow. Mainly due to other who thought I was slow. I have been in the classroon with two-year-olds when I did my Practicum. And I did very well.

My thinking is this is just how I am wired. I never really "got it" when in school and always needed extra attention. It's just you're "wiring," I think. I never got the impression that you were stupid in any way. Meticulous and analytical are just ways people operate. There's nothing wrong with that. Some people just get in a hurry and do a poor job.
