At a crossroad with my ministry. Let me explain, which I have done in earlier post. My husband is an elder, I taught childrens SS for many years. My husband, pastor went to lunch and shook things up, and decided to have groups at night, and the children would meet in these groups also called, by the same name as the adult groups, but with the name infront of it with kids following the name of the group I will make up a name for privacy. The adults cross group, the kids crosskids, made up names of course, but you get it. I was not happy at first SS, being cancelled, and all. I was mad at husband who just went to lunch with pastor, and destroyed my ministry.
Well the groups started in Jan. I love it actually, so humility makes me admit I was wrong about SS. The point is pastor does not give any credit to the childrens group. In the bulliten website, whatever? Once he called us childcare, which made me so mad, We are not childcare we are children teachers, children come who's parents do not come to the groups. We have the largest group. There are four teachers, we rotate the classess like rotation SS would. We cannot get any workers or helpers, and pastor treats group with distain. My husband is a worker in childrens, not his calling, but if he did not it would fall apart, though he is not happy. My husband is group leader of these groups. ON the churches website, there is chief greeter listed, transportatin mention, all cross-groups except our cross-kids group. I called pastor and ask him why? and he said he would have it fixed by the end of the day. He ask where he should put it?[:@] I thought do not tempt me (LOL). I love him so just joking. I told him to put it with all the cross groups on the website. That has been 6 weeks ago. Now listed is cross kids coming soon. IN the mean time he has updated many ministries. why is this so iportant to me? We need help. One of our teachers is quitting, and no one will help. we all work hard, have groups of many children ages 4-12, while parents enjoy the groups. We teach great classes, and the kids love it. I think pastor does not want it compeating with paid childrens ministry, which of course are listed, in everything. It is done with intent. So how should I feel according to the Lord. I'm lost. What are 'paid' children's ministry? I'd be interested in seeing the website, plz pm it to me.

I'm sorry that you're frustrated. Everyone is important. It's easier for us to remember and focus on the ministry we are directly involved with. Please hang in there, this too shall pass!

I won't sugar coat, since you said you didn't want it sugar coated....

I understand how you feel, I have had issues with my ministry too... I had to do a LOT of praying (still do, actually) because I felt slighted and honestly felt mistreated. I still feel as though I could have been treated better when the pastor decided to shake up some things that "ruined" my ministry (this is a wrong attitude and I see that now)... One thing that God is still working on in me is that it is not about me. I know that is SUCH a cliche[:'(], but it is true and even if someone did treat me unfairly I have to trust that no one can do anything that God did not allow for whatever reasons He allowed it. All I can do is look at myself and my heart and even ask God to reveal things about myself that aren't so pretty...(He has, and still is).. He knows our hearts so much better than we do and I believe He wants to show us the truth if we will just be willing to see. He will change us for the better; so that we can be more like Christ, which is our greatest goal!

I think, by the title of your post, "Help me with my attitude," that you already have a pretty good clue that there are some issues that you need to work on with you personally. God tested me through some trials during the "shake up" in my ministry and I failed each one miserably...Now I am left with picking up my own pieces (with His help) and dealing with my attitude, knowing I didn't have the right attitude. It is humbling and unpleasant, but very necessary.

I encourage you to stay close to the Lord in prayer and pray about all of your decisions and pray about your attitude so that you don't make your situation worse (like I did!) I know my situation will be ok, but is is hard and if I could go back in time there are some things I would really do differently and the top thing would be my attitude.

How about this-

Tell the pastor you know he is busy and so you and the other workers will see to it all the information is updated for your children's group on the website? Maybe you and the other workers can rotate weeks to maintain your portion of the site.

That is how I would handle it... I have done this in the past and it is working out very well.

We all need recognition for a job well done; especially if we worked hard at it. It's natural. It seems to me that you have reason to be upset and frustrated.

Pray about the situation; and be sure of the fact that although you may not get recognition or help right now He knows what you're doing in His name.

As buckifn suggested: could you volunteer to update your own section of the website? Probably easier said than done. I tried to get various people involved in their own section of our Church's website - guess what? I ended up doing the whole thing myself!

I'm sure you're doing a good job -don't give up.

Why is how the group is advertised on the website this so important to you?

Perhaps, God is using this experience to test your heart and expose your motives for the scriptures teach that a man's heart is tested by the praise he receives. How the group is marketed should pale in comparison to the fact that God has enabled you and your husband to be very effective at what you do. Who cares how it's advertised on the website when God (and everyone else) see the good you are doing. Does it really matter whether you receive the recognition from man when the goal is to please God? If your motivation is solely to please God and be faithful to the calling He has given you then this shouldn't matter much on the grand scheme of things.

Well, before you beat yourself to a pulp for being human, Stop please.
Its hard to deal with a stiuation when you feel that you are being discounted and dismissed.

Maybe you are suppose to have a serious talk with the pastor and tell him how you feel. He may not have a clue. I know he is a pastor but they are human too.

We all need encouragement and sometimes help, and needing that isn't a weakness just a human need that God put in us, so please don't feel bad about that. I have the gift of encouragement and if no one needed it I'd be up a creek. Yes we should do things for the Lord and not care about man's opinion but if you can do that all through life, you are a way better woman than I am. I don't have any advice just good wishes for you and your husband.

Also as far as your husband, if he is in a place where God didn't equip him then maybe he shouldn't be there except to fill in.

I run a ministry at my church too. I'm OFTEN left "out" of the bulletin, in recognition "speeches" (for lack of a better word). If I get my eyes off of the Lord and put them onto myself, I get all kinds of funky attitudes to deal with. But when I serve as if the Lord were my boss, then my attitude is usually great! I'm honestly thankful to be serving in this way, even if no one notices. I am confident that the Lord is working in me and through me and I am obeying by running this ministry.

I agree with ChoirDJ in that maybe God is using this to bring up something in you that needs to change. Be thankful that God loves you so much that He wants to perfect you!

I encourage you to really pray about your pride. Maybe it's fine, maybe not. Let God speak to you about it.

One other thing that came to mind as I was praying for you - maybe there are others that are noticing your lack of recognition and are watching to see what you do? Maybe they are taking their "cues" from you as to how to behave? Maybe someone else feels unrecognized and once they see your reaction (assuming it's negative), it becomes a really big issue to them, as opposed to them seeing you handle it another way and that helps them diffuse their own feelings? Am I making sense? Just something to think about as we serve in leadership positions....

Maybe guy's it has been going on for so long. It is not all, about me either. I am not the only worker. We need more help, and maybe we could get more help. I know pride can be an issue, with everyone, but also just feeling like you count, not in mens eyes. I do not want my name, that would humilate me. I want the group recognized is that about me? Maybe so, maybe someone is looking. I thank You for prayers. I need to be right with God, before I worry if the pastor, or anybody else is, and I thank everyone for wisdom.[:)]

If I am doing what God has for me to do - I don't really care what you call me - you could call me a donkey if you like - I'm still chasing God and waiting on God. It's all good. :D

Me either, it is not lightshineons group, it is a group (small) of teachers. I am not wanting personal credit, I do not deserve it. I want the group to be known so we have more help. We rotate each week, and each class only has one teacher. No one has to call me anything, mention me, or other teachers, just the group, if the Lord wants it mentioned. Who knows? Maybe God has his own way, of getting help.

I really don't know anything, but I'll still take a shot at it.

You are right, your group is being overlooked.
You are probably right in feeling the way you do.
Instead of feeling guilty, consider that the feeling you have might be God's prompting for YOU to do something about it.

Try to understand your husband's situation. Maybe he is caught in the middle. When he is talking with the pastor, he is talking about what the pastor is interested in. Perhaps, he's in the position of taking orders rather than suggesting anything. The pastor is obviously not interested in his smallest parishners. They somehow will be taken care of.
His gift lies in another direction.
Could he be so arrogant (where's the spell check?), that he would refuse anothers help?

When I began teaching, our pastor was interested in the education of our children. It was so obvious. He didn't neglect the other aspects of the church, but his aim was on those of our future generations. We swung. This pastor did have children of that age, and that was a big help. He was informed through his chldren as well as the teachers.
Then he moved on, as well he should.

The following pastors were not GIFTED in this way, and we have suffered. Our following pastors were ready to retire and just filling time so it seemed. Children were past tense to them, if ever they were anything at all. But, sometimes they recognize their lack, and welcome some other(s) to fill that spot for them. Maybe, God is asking your own increase!

I don't know your church situation, nor how YOU can go about this...God does....... In God's way of gifting according to the Bible, according to Paul, the church is provided with sufficient gifting, whether it is yours or someone else's.

I'm just attempting to look at it in a different angle. I certainly hope, you get the help you need. And the feeling that when it is all said and done, God will say, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

(Or maybe he'll prompt someone else to bug the pastor about it.) Are you allowed to submit things to the bulletin, or have fliers put in the bulletin? Or pass fliers out to people with kids?

What I really logged on to post however, was this prayer by Ruth Myers in 31 Days of Praise. It helped me at one of my lowest points ministry-wise, a couple of years ago. Here's part of Day 17:

"Thank You that You have me in the place You want me just now . . . that even if I got here through wrong choice or indifference or even rebellion, yet You knew my mistakes and sins before I ever existed, and You worked them into your plan to draw me to yourself, to mold and bless me, and to bless others through me. Thank You that, even if I'm here through the ill will or poor judgment of other people, all is well; for in Your soverieng wisdom You are at work to bring about good results from all those past decisions, those past events beyond my conrol -- good results both for me and for others. Thank You again that you meant for good the terrible things that happened to Joseph
. . . Thank You that I can safely commit my location and situation to you. I can be 'willing for You to shift me anywhere on life's checkerboard, or bury me anywhere in life's garden, gladly yielding myself for You to please Yourself with, anywhere and anyway You choose.'

Well to toss off the kid gloves; many times there is the issue of pride in the ministry you are working in and from the OP it seems you do have some issues that the Lord is dealing with you there. PRAY PRAY PRAY and when your done pray some more. I know I use this often but it is true. The main way the Lord changes our attitudes is through prayer about situations. Talk over with Him all the things involved and ask Him if your attitude is wrong there. He will show you through prayer. As to the web site if that is not your area then pray for the person who has that ministry perhaps they are having questions of how to properly present it pray for them on that and if you could assist them with suggestions. Perhaps that person feels just as overwhelmed without help as well.

Also pray for everybody in your church that the Lord will help open their hearts and guide them to serve. Dont overlook praying for anybody because you dont think they would be interested. The Lord may be dealing with some less obedient persons who aren't sure if they are equipped to work in that area. Perhaps they will see your husband doing his part and see you need help. Perhaps your husband is being dealt with in areas he is needful. Perhaps the LORD is leading you through this to more trust in Him for where we are week He is strong.

There are several other perhaps but I thin that is sufficient for now. There are always things the Lord is working in us many times about trusting Him and getting closer to Him. Perhaps you may be being taught to more depend on Him and not your own strength. All of these are just possibilities to consider. Though your first post did come across as a pride issue on the website thing. Or it could be an area that is simply a distraction to take you away from other concerns and may be keeping you from seeing other opportuinties to get help. Pray for that put the whole website thoughts aside for a while and pray about everything else just completely forget about web site. Pray for your pastor as well perhaps the Lord is working on him about this change. Or about his attitude with children. So it all goes back to prayer.

Only time will tell what is actually going on and all we can do is pray and trust that the Lord is allowing it for a reason and He will work His will out in it and be with you through it at all times, whether you think He is or not. At least you cant say that life with Him is boring as those who dont know Him think it is.

It's a horrible feeling to feel like a step child or think a ministry might be a step child, and frequently the children's ministry is relegated to just that -- or seems to be. You can't focus on that. I really love what dramagal posted, because it gets to the heart of the issue -- trusting the Lord no matter what others do or don't do. Yeah, we all know we're supposed to do that, but it's instances like these where the rubber meets the road. They are not fun as I'm sure you know. But if you can keep focus, it will bode well for the ministry and for you in your walk with the Lord.

I know you've had experiences where you had to keep focus on the Lord no matter what was happening, and He was so good and showed you what to do. Well, here it is again.

I thank everyone for their excellent post, I have gleaned much wisdom and encouragement from all of them. I think,I needed that encouragement, because as mentioned sometimes keeping our eyes and faith in God's ways, which are not our ways, is hard without Godly encouragement. I have read, considered everything said, and agree with the wisdom given. I am so very grateful for prayers and wisdom from each and everyone of my dear brothers and sisters, it has changed my view on the whole issue. Blessings

What is in a name lable?
I AM is good enough for the creator, is it not?

Have your duties to the Church or the children changed?
Don't viwe it as being destroyed see it as a new begining to make things better.

We were in ministry for 15 years and we've been out for 6 years now. After all this time I have realised that I was way too emotional about pretty much everything. Since going into business and and learning stuff about that, and learning about myself and having business mentors, I realise I made mountains out of molehills in my head, when they never needed to be. I'm not saying you're doing that, because you are being undervalued by the behaviour being manifested by your pastor. He doesn't get what you do or see the true value. Is what you do supremely valueable? Ofcourse it is. More than any of us can imagine. Did people not get what jesus was trying to do? No they didn't. He was undervalued too.

My suggestion is be less emotional about the situation. Don't tie your personal value up in how much others acknowledge your value. Try and be rather matter of fact. I don't know if that's an Australian term, but try to be casual about your request to be correctly listed. Don't go to your pastor all charged up with emotion and say why haven't you done what you promised. Just be casual and say you noticed the website has not been updated, when could you expect that to be done. Would it help if you updated it.(someone else's sggestion). I understand you're busy pastor. Also if you're the team leader in that area you need to promote the work you do to build excitement and create desire for other helpers to join you. It needs it's profile raised to recruit workers. People can't help if they don't know you exist or what you do.

As well as being over emotional, I realise I also overspiritualised things and got tied up in knots over stuff. Ofcourse we keep our eyes on the Lord, but sometimes these things are not spiritual or emotional, it's just stuff that happens or gets overlooked. The pastor would have a red hot prioroty list a mile long, and maybe your stuff didn't make it into the red hot zone. It's not that pastor doesn't value what you do, it's just that his list is so long, and maybe it's just not his hot potatoe. It's not personal.
If you can, just try to be less emotional, don't overspiritualise this, and just talk to him, without being charged up. Be casual. Be kind and polite and keep mentioning things. Be patient.

You're doing such wonderful work. You're an absolute treasure to your church and kingdom. Don't get led astray by feeling undervalued. You are such a wonderful asset. Your pastor would know this even if he doesn't say so or express it in ways you would like. Maybe his love language is different to yours? You might be a words person or an acts of service, he might be a something else. Or he might just be frazzled himself.
