The U.S. border state leading the battle against illegal immigration with unprecedented tough laws has received complaints from Mexico’s government that too many Mexicans have been repatriated and the country is overwhelmed with demands for housing, jobs and schools.

Fed up with the devastating effect of illegal immigration, Arizona has enacted the nation’s toughest laws to curb the problem and evidently its working. State legislators have passed laws barring illegal immigrants from receiving government services, posting bail for serious crimes and winning punitive damages in lawsuits. This year a new law makes it illegal for businesses to hire undocumented workers and those that do can be shut down.

The state legislator who sponsored the work bill, Representative Russell Pearce, says the law’s undeniably positive effects include smaller class sizes, shorter emergency room waits and an overall huge savings to taxpayers. The Republican congressman drafted the bill because studies revealed that illegal immigration cost Arizona taxpayers over $2 billion annually, not including the toll of crime and destruction.

It turns out that enough illegal immigrants have either fled the U.S. or been deported that officials in the Mexican state of Sonora, which shares an extensive border with Arizona, have complained that too many of their fellow countrymen have returned. They miss the remittances sent from the U.S. as well as smaller class sizes in local schools.

Funny, but the people who come to SoCal seem to have no problem finding jobs. It seems like another story stirred on by "white fright" to me.

Certain American's anti-Mexico bias seems to have people trolling the internet for any story that will stir up prejudice against Mexicans. If these people lived in the 1780's they would have complained about the Germans; later it would have been the Irish, in the late 1800's to early 1900's, it would have been the eastern Europeans; now, it's the Mexicans. Whose going to be the scapegoat of tomorrow?

Don't you get it? It is not the fact that America welcomes those from other lands into our borders, it is the fact that those in the past have come legally - these today from our southern border are doing it against the law!

I have nothing against immigrants coming to this country. I know several. One person I know, her family is from Pakistan and she was born and raised here and is totally American. Another same deal, her family is from Bolivia. I have family in Korea still so for me to be anti-immigrant is crazy.

The point is not that people are against immigrants or are racist for being "anti-illegal immigrant. I ain't "white", but I totally understand how illegal immigrants coming to this country is not right, it's wrong. No one is anti-immigrant just for being AGAINST illegal immigrants.

I have no problem with imigrants but I do have a problem with the fact that they come here and pay no taxes yet use our social programs. They work for cash and even if they did get a paycheck since they are not citizens they do not need to show any income anyway. I have a larger problem with the drugs being smuggled over the border. I think we need to find a way to lock down the border before we get a whole lot more smuggled over the border like a weapon that can take out half a city. Imagine if half of LA or San Diego was destroyed and we found out the bomb was just snuck over the border through Mexico.
Dont get me wrong I feel terrible for those people. Their lives are not fun at all. I do not blame them for wanting to come here I blame their government for using us as their social program. They are very tough with illegals in their country yet expect us to welcome their illegals with open arms.

This is where the scare tactics of the liberal become most apparent. Conservatives aren't racist, "anti-immigrant" people... we want people to follow the law... aren't we evil little ninnys................. If someone is here legally and they break the law, they get deported or jailed, but if they are here illegally we have to beat around the bush (no pun intended) to make sure that we are treating them "fairly" because deportation is "too cruel". Myself, I have little to no hope that someone who broke the law to get into the country is going to suddenly follow the law once they are in the country. I'm not sayin'... I'm just sayin'......

Good for the economy - yes.

Good for crime rates - no.

Good for national security - no.

Simple answer: Make it easier for people to come in legally to work, which will cut down on resources required to try keep them out and take care of the huge mess that the paperwork is currently (I have friends working on immigrating because they married American missionaries... you very much need a lawyer), which will make those resources free to take care of what we really need... keeping out the criminals and terrorists. Also, we get more in taxes, and they're treated more fairly. Bonus!

It's pretty sad that even Mexico doesn't want their own people. They're complaining about the demands for housing, jobs and schools? Are you kidding me? Look at what America has been going through concerning illegal immigrants. And Mexico is complaining? Give me a break! I don't mean to be rude, but this is a very touchy subject for me. lol [&:]

This is very telling about the Mexican Government. It's clear that have nothing but contempt for their own citizens and refuse to take care of them. And therein is the ENTIRE PROBLEM. The Mexican government is where the buck should stop. They are utterly corrupt and uncaring, and yet call us racists, etc for not allowing their people free passage, free government benefits, etc, etc. When is the US going to finally call the Mexican Government to account for their corruption?

Thank GOD for Arizona finally taking a stand for what is RIGHT!

The cries of anti-this and anti-that, racist, or you name it is an old, old trick. And not a bright one.

The hope is if you say nothing, they can go, "see they said nothing to say I was wrong, so they must be".

And if you say something in a defensive mannerr like, "I am not, some of my friends are_____, or the like. Just a defensive answer", then they can say "see they are racist, just by the way they talk in a scared defense"

But if you reply with fact after fact, show them how they are showing themselves to be uneducated (which they are in this case) through defining their own words and terms. Eventually they will stamp their foot, say I am not going to play anymore but as they leave shout over their shoulder, "racist", "anti____",.

It is actually quite boring because it is so predictable.

I read that the amount of remittances sent to Mexico last year was $24 BILLION. If the citizens are being repatriated then they can't send that $$$$$$$$$$$$$ back home. That's also $24 Billion taken out of our economy. Think about that a minute. Most of that is money that was paid in cash so no taxes, social security, etc. was paid.

And many millions more are sent to the rest of Latin America. In most Central America nations, that money represents the 2nd or 3rd highest sources of income.

btw.....I don't think there is any way to prove that most money is paid in cash. There are many business who do have illegal immigrants on their payroll...and yes, they do withhold out Social Security and other taxes.

Yes, Arizona had to act because the Federal Government did not. And as the effects of the law are felt, agriculture and other labor intensive industries will come up short. As a result some Arizona legislatures are now asking the Feds to consider allowing worker visa program for Arizona to avoid labor shortages.
