My brother plays the banjo, and may play it for the quartet we're starting. We've made it a challenge to see how many songs we can find that have the banjo in them. Some I've never really noticed, like the Cathedrals "Step Into The Water". But even the Kingsmen have a banjo on one of the new songs from their album "When God Ran". Can you help us? Ain't God Good - Gold City Beautiful Home - Kingsmen Come Unto Me - Bishops Gospel Road - Kingsmen If God Be For Us - Gold City I'm Feeling Fine - Cathedrals I'm Gonna Move - Gold City I Can't Even Slow Down - Bishops Step Into The Water - Cathedrals

This should be fun. Well, i can name a ton of the Lewis Family with Banjo, but thats probably cheating! lol , cause they use the banjo for just about everything.

The Isaacs use a banjo on nearly every song they do. I believe the Primitive Quartet does as well

Here's another one.... I've Got That Old Time Religion - Legacy 5 I find it funny that they'd go to London to record with an orchestra, and yet an instrument invented here in the US is featured on one of the songs!

When The Kingsmen had a full band, (in the Anthony Burger days), they used a banjo quite a bit in their live performances. I don't know how many projects they had it on, but Daniel has probably covered them. Also, Tim Lovelace used to play banjo with The Florida Boys.

a little late posting here, but...my pastor plays the banjo & it sounds great on just about all of the "old-time" classics, Mansion Over the Hilltop, Just a Little Talk with Jesus, I'll Fly Away, I Never Shall Forget the Day....to name a few.

I'd Rather Be An Old Time Christian-- Kingsmen try all old Crabb Family songs. I love the version of Something's Going On In The Graveyard, Ain't No Grave, Don't You Wanna Go. any Crabb Family. well loving Bluegrass over any music, gotta love a banjo. Hey Matt, I have already said won't sing in a quartet when I start unless has bluegrassy sound.

Yes, the Kingsmen had a couple good banjo pickers, Gary Dillard (Beaver), and Sam Crowe. When Randy Miller came , i don't think he played the banjo.

Did he go the way of most all good SG musicians?

Not SG, but John Michael Talbot has some really awesome banjo stuff in his earlier recordings. The solo on his New Earth album should be "required listening" for anyone remotely interested in banjo. BTW, before he was a believer, he was the banjo player for Mason Profit.

Anthony Burger, Garry Dilliard, Tim Surrett, and Greg Fox made the best SG band ever. quote:

Another song with banjo is "For All The Days That End In Why" by Poet Voices. I've always wondered WHAT IN THE WORLD WERE THEY THINKING? No, I just don't understand why a banjo should be in a serious ballad. I heard another recent song on radio with a banjo, but can't think of the name right now. By the way, if you want to hear something absolutley bizzare, imagine the Hinson's song "That I Could Still Go Free" with a banjo playing in the verses. I've heard it before, and let's say that it wasn't the best idea. Another one is from Triumphant, something about a white flag.
