What is up with so many teens cutting?

ShutterBox -> RE: CUTTING (4/21/2008 7:24:55 PM)

there are a number of reasons now a days.

one major reason is that it's just a fad. Especially among the ones who want to be "emo". This is supposedly a symbol of being "deep" because it would seem that they are so sorrowful. Really, it's an attention device.

another is frustration. Why take it out on other people when I've got my very own body to tear up?

another is it takes your mind off of whatever you don't want to think about. Now there are tons of other ways to distract yourself, but this kind of goes along with reason number one; it's what every other emotionally distraught teenager is doing right now, so that's what the individual choses to do also because it just seems like the thing to do.

It's also soothing to some...

and then.... there are those who view blood as an intimate thing. friends might cut themselves and share their blood with each other. It's intimate, romantic, etc etc.

But it started out as pagan worship way back in the B.C. times.

in short, Cutting. Is. Bad.

I used to cut when I was a teen. God delivered me. About 2 weeks ago I found out my daughter had been cutting. She started back in February. I'm definitely not feeling the "coming back full circle". Pray for us.

LJ17 -> RE: CUTTING (4/21/2008 7:30:16 PM)

That is horrible! I have a lot of friends who struggle with cutting. I thank God I have never even considered it before.

I will be praying.

hawknelsonismyfriend -> RE: CUTTING (4/21/2008 7:34:29 PM)

I've never cut, except once when I couldn't think of what I was doing, I sliced my finger with scissors trying to open something. That wasn't very fun. Oh, and 1 in 25 emos cut. So it's not all emos. For anyone who cuts, I recommend the song "The Way She Feels" by BETWEEN THE TREES.

Shes upset
Bad day
Heads for the dresser drawer to
drive her pain away
Nothing good can come of this.
She opens it theres nothing there
is only left over tears
Mom and dad had no right she screams
as the anger runs down both of her cheeks.

Then she closed her eyes
and found relief in a knife
the blood flows as she cries

All alone the way she feels
Left alone to deal with all the pain-drenched sorrow relief
Bite the lip just forget the bleeding

Curled up shes on the floor
relief left her she had hoped for something more
from it
He leans down to comfort her
She is weeping and He
wraps His arms around
and around and around and...
The deeper you cut
the deeper I hurt
The deeper you cut
it only gets worse

Now shes slowly opening...
new eyes...

Then she opened her eyes
and found relief through His life
and put down her knives

Then she opened her life
and found relief through His eyes
and put down
she put down her life

I use to cut... everyone once in a while I will but it's not a habit anymore. I think that is the only reason why they diagnosed me as borderline personality disorder... I didn't have any other DSM criteria. Anyway, I always feel bad after I cut. I mainly did it so my parents would actually care. I wanted to be noticed. I still want to be but I get attention in different ways now.

Konstantinos -> RE: CUTTING (4/22/2008 2:15:52 AM)

aside from all the lame reasons that people start cutting which are stupid...

when you cut you are afraid so thats one emotion that can be interesting to some
when you cut you feel pain which is again an emotion that can be interesting
when you cut you lose blood which can make you dizzy and other stuff that may be interesting
when you cut because of the fear and the blood loss you get the adrenaline pumping or something like that

hence the fun in it. if it wasnt "fun" at all noone would have done it in the first place.

Awww... *hugs* I know how it is, for part of you to want to be noticed. I'm glad cutting's not a habit for you anymore! But does that mean that you still do it on occasion?

There are a lot of good songs out there about cutting. When She Cries-Britt Nicole is one. :)

hawknelsonismyfriend -> RE: CUTTING (4/24/2008 3:05:35 PM)

thank you.

ShutterBox -> RE: CUTTING (4/24/2008 6:47:40 PM)

i dunno what would be worth defending in Emo culture. Scene, hardcore, and punk dress nearly the same as "Emos" but are different.

you know what i think? Stereotypes are retarded. Lets just be who we are and worry about labeling it later when it might actually matter.

Thats true.

drumroll_pleeze -> RE: CUTTING (4/24/2008 7:18:37 PM)

eh, idk. when it comes to clothing, I can pretty much tell the stereotypes apart. I just don't completely fit into any of them.

then I'll go describe something someway and get corrected and I'll be like "what the heck? I've never heard *insert style here* described THAT way before!"

I think stereotypes are basically just what people make them out to be, really.

ShutterBox -> RE: CUTTING (4/24/2008 7:21:08 PM)

i still think they are retarded.

I want to be classified in the Ash stereotype, not a cookie cutter stereotype.

Konstantinos -> RE: CUTTING (4/24/2008 7:31:50 PM)

i want to be classified as a beast
