Well... Normal is just the average of a population....[;)]

So when people tell me I'm above average, is it not necessarily a complement?

Could just mean you're out standing in your field.[8D]

I believe sanity is just a figment of our imagination.[8D]

I would hardly hold myself up as a shining example of sanity. But thanks for the vote of confidence! [:D]

I don't suffer from insanity,I enjoy every moment of it.

In all seriousness, having mental disorders and chemical imbalances is no joy ride. Maybe the hardest thing in my life that I have had to deal with.

You guys can continue on having your fun, but I am just shooting this out as a precursor to not let it get carried to far. Don't be insensitive to the reality of those who suffer. Not full insanity, but maybe are just not quite mentally healthy.

Thanks for the reminder 1. We do like to have fun. Humor is only funny when you can relate so I guess that supports the quote I posted.

And you are correct that the those who suffer from a mental illness that puts them out-of-step too often can find the humor confusing and insulting.

It is good to know that I doubt any of these posters would want to insult anyone else in this manner. I hope you don't mind me speaking for y'all.

"My feeling is that sanity is actually a pretence, a way we learn to behave. We keep this pretence up because we don't want to be rejected by other people-and being classified insane is to be shut out of the group in a very complete way.

I don't think sanity is a pretense but I think that most people think (their own) behavior is a pretense. We think that other people are well-behaved, according to society's dictates, because that's how they are and experience difficulty (to a greater or lesser degree) being well-behaved ourselves. Which makes us worry that we're 'worse than' everyone else and will be ostracized because of it.

And, as stellaluna said, many people brag about their non-conformance to good behavior as an attempt to achieve "specialness".

For the record, I prefer to think of myself as "interestingly quirky".[8D]

Insanity...

walking into a baptist church at noon dressed like a donut.

Sanity...

accepting Jesus as Lord

I have been told that I am very conservative for an artist. Does that make me quirky? I do think that many of us are afraid that people will find out about the "real person inside" and then not like us anymore.

Hense the reason to poke fun on ourselves.

I very much agree with this.

I think we try to please those around us to the point of sometimes we become chameleons just to fit in.
