psalm100 -> Can't hear..... (4/22/2008 10:48:44 PM)

In your opinion: What is the main reason(s) why some people can't or don't hear God speak to them?

They don't wait.
They don't sit.
They can't be still.

Can you hear a radio station if you're not tuned in to the right frequency?

A lot of people just don't want to hear Him. They'd rather listen to something else more tempting.

John 6:44
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Ya hafta be in the same room.

Ya hafta know the same language.

Ya hafta know that what is being said to you has value.

The most important thing ya hafta know? What God has to say is more important than anything you have to say.

Have you ever noticed that in todays society there is hardly an instant where a person is not being influenced by something? T.V., Radio, iPods, Cell Phones, Computers, the internet...

It's like everyone has a need to be constantly involved, never truly at rest, never without some external stimulation.

It's almost like they are trying to block something out, more then to take something in...Hmmmm.

God speaks to us in a small, still voice. He is always there speaking, drawing all to Himself...if only we could hear...

How do you mean this? Are you talking about Christians or non-Christians?

Tmeeks: I guess I should have been more specific, but I am talking about believers.

I think two of the main reasons we don't hear God is because we become too busy and also because we tend to focus on our problems. These are the main reasons for me. Lately, I have been very tensed about different situations in my life. When I become calm and relaxed I'll hear God speak. Most of the time a scriputure verse will "pop" up in my mind. Or I will even hear a gospel song playing in my head.

imo, they simply don't listen.

I am wondering how does one know with certainty it is the voice of God. Do persons hear an actual voice?

Liveloved -> RE: Can't hear..... (4/23/2008 7:27:15 PM)

I will tell you what Jesus says.

"Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word. You are of your father the devil . . . He who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God." John 8:43, 47

I think many believers are hearing Father speak, but they aren't aware it's Him. They have a view of Father as being mean or angry or a feeling that they just don't measure up so they brush aside the kind and gentle words that He is speaking to them. And then others don't hear Him because they have their own agenda and what He is speaking is running against their agenda, so they don't want to hear it. And yet for some others they just don't bother to listen. They would rather listen to the guy up front than cultivate their own relationship with Father. And finally for some, they just plain old don't know or don't believe that God speaks to them.

I don't know.
I do know that God doesn't lie, He never goes against His word, He is trustworthy and if I misunderstand Him and start to go in a wrong direction - He is quick to correct the situation.

I know the still small voice of the Lord speaks the loudest in my own silence, convicting my heart and opening my eyes.

If you have never experienced it, it is hard to explain. I have never heard and audible voice, but I get an impression, on my heart, in my soul, and I know it is God. I say a prayer, I get an answer, either through his word(the bible), a feeling, or even an emailed daily devotional. It may sound stupid but it is true.

I totally agree with this, and to sum it all up...Noise Pollution.

All the stuff we let come between us and God. The difference between hearing him or drowning him out.

I think some people are afraid to hear God. I grew up in a church that taught that God only spoke through the Bible, they were very anti-charismatic, for lack of a better term. Things like hearing God and sensing the leading of the Holy Spirit just weren't talked about. It was a very performance based church. So as an adult the Lord has had to train this out of me. So experincing God in this way is new to me and sometimes a bit frightening.

Agreed.

I know that when I do hear/am convicted by God...it means a change in my heart that must be reflected in my life. Do I really wanna have to do the work associated with that?

Not so much sometimes.[&o]
