Marcus. -> Being 40 (4/24/2008 2:59:45 PM)

Since I turned 40 a few years ago, I have had to learn to deal with a short-term memory that is microscopic many times.

*There's nothing like going to the store and forgetting everything you needed to buy.
*Driving to the store and find yourself on the way to work.
*Reading a book to learn more on a subject only to find I've forgotten it as soon as I've finished it.
*Dates? What are dates or today? Without my trusty watch I wouldn't know Sunday from Tuesday. (I've actually missed work because I thought it was Sunday and not Monday).
*Having a conversation and loosing the thought I was expressing before I could finish it.

So I was curious who else is waging a loosing battle with their bodies and minds in this age of change. Let's share our frustrations together. Vent a little steam.

I'm 50. In addition to your list, there's
1) Walking into the kitchen, opening the refrigerator door, and then wondering why you're there.
2) Start dialing a phone number, get four digits in, and having to start over after consulting your address book for the rest of the numbers. I blame the addition of dialing the area code.
3) My pants don't fit! I haven't changed my eating habits in 30 years so what's up with that?
4) That's not music, that's just noise!
5) When's the last time you slept through the night without getting up at least once to pee?
6) I've lived through most of what my 16 year old niece studies in her American History class. [:o]
7) Why is my hair migrating from my head to my back? And ears? And nose?
8) I wear shirts that are older than the first and second graders I teach in Sunday school.
9) A large majority of my sentences start with "Remember when...?"
10) I'm starting to believe that I really did walk 5 miles to school in a snowstorm in bare feet. Uphill both ways.

How about opening the fridge and finding a box of pasta where the milk should have been. Then looking for the milk and finding it with the rest of the pasta boxes. [:@]

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: Being 40 (4/25/2008 11:38:51 AM)

I was in the shower awhile ago (it happens occasionally) . . . and I couldn't remember if I had already washed my hair or not. It took me probably a full minute to remember that I had, indeed, already washed my hair.

Uhm, Marcus? Didn't the milk kinda emanate a funny smell?

Misery loves company. I noticed instead of saying 43 you said "Since I turned 40 a few years ago". I like that [:)]
. I'm 43 as well and I feel your pain brother.

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: Being 40 (5/2/2008 10:49:49 AM)

Two things . . .

(1) Rachel - NO WAY; you are not turning 40 this year! That amazes me; I thought when we met last year that your were in your early 30's; certainly no more than 35.

(2) I went to the post office the other day to renew my box. I got up to the counter and had absolutely no idea as to why I was now standing there in front of this man looking at me and waiting for me to tell him what I needed.

Marcus. -> RE: Being 40 (5/2/2008 10:52:01 AM)

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: Being 40 (5/15/2008 11:20:14 AM)

Some people came over the other day; and as we stood around talking, every now and then one of them would get this odd look.

After they left, I happened to get a glance of myself in the mirror.

My entire blouse was mis-buttoned by two buttons all the way up.
