I read this thread and have a question about the use of personal information on these forums. I have a blog and I noticed that my real name is listed on my profile. This bothers me because I value my privacy and don't want my personal information like that listed on my profile. What I'd like to know is why is it necessary to put my real name on my profile? Would it be possible for the forum's administrators to allow people to register with their real names, but keep that information private to protect the privacy of the user? Some people might want to post information that they don't want certain individuals they know that it came from them, so it's important that their privacy be protected.
BTW, I tried to hide my profile, but I still see it on the boards.
