What is "family friendly" anyway?!? Do we not take on topics that effect us in our every day life? Is there a style that goes over better than others? I know it probably shouldn't, but the use of that phrase "family friendly" and "safe for the whole family" really aggravates me. Disney is "family friendly" but I don't want to listen to Radio Disney for music to draw me closer to the Lord! I know they are just probably afraid of offending people, and maybe "family friendly" really does attract more people, but I wish that there was a station out there that would say "we are about music that glorifies and honors the Lord Jesus Christ...we hope you will feel that your whole family can listen to it, too!" or something like that. Absolutely!!!! But with Radio Disney, you get a wider variety of styles...pop, country, reggae, rock, old school hip hop, and R&B. I'm praying that one day, we'll have something similar. What's weird is the CCM stations will play remakes of secular songs but not varieties of Christian music, as humble stated.... But these stations DO exist! I still don't understand why it's not widely popular by now. Our local station is listener supported and has a very wide selection of music (it is basically a replica of Top 40 secular "Hit" radio, which plays a pretty wide variety of music). As popular as secular "Hit" music stations are, I am really confused at why it is not more popular in Christian music. It has grown hugely since the station started up a little over 3 years ago, but it's just catching on slower than I thought it would.

I was in Best Buy this morning and just looking through the "Rock/Pop" CD's I was surprised to find quite a number of Christian artists and bands. What's also interesting is that they were not segregated as "Christian". They even had their own labelled bin and were not lumped into the Miscellaneous A-Z stack. I used to only find these groups at Family Christian Stores and their ilk but now more mainstream retailers are carrying more and more groups. So IMO CCM's exposure is increasing and I feel that reflects a greater health in the industry. But that's just MHO. I have not researched the numbers to see the financial reality.

Thats mostly because most of the music companies are owned by secular companies/Major labels now. It does them good to have their product treated just like any other than have it "sub-classed" instead.
