Is there anything that you can point to in your life which drains your energy, e.g. listening to someone moaning, etc and how do you deal with it?

Mean spirited remarks.

But on the other hand, it lifts me up to hear joyful praises to God.

Good topic! What drains my energy most is prideful and arrogant people. People who hurt you and bc they are proud, they never take the chance or trouble to examine their behaviour honestly to see their blind spots. Furthermore, bc of they are very prideful, they never humble themselves to say I am sorry to the person whom they hurt.

With such people, I forgive even when I don't want to...and keep my distance from them.

No wonder God said it very wisely: God resists the proud!!!

Christians who are not honest. They hide behind false faces. The parking lot joy....mad all the way to church but once in the parking lot, wallah a sudden 'joy" comes over them.

I get drained trying to defend essential Christian doctrine, that should be affirmed by all Christians, not debatable points, over and over and over again, with little to no support from other Christians.

The poor, poor pitiful me mentality.

People who think they have the bible all figured out and believe the Book of Maps was divinely inspired.

People who claim any Christian music that has a beat to it is of devil.

People who believe the 11th Commandment is "Thou shalt not have fun."

What drains my energy?...when I complain instead of reflecting upon a situation to make a change...or just shut up.

Emotional Vampirism. Those seeking to suck the life out of you instead of seeking life for themselves. They are attracted to the light within, yet want to reject the reason for it, almost as if we are lying to them. They also want to bring us down to their level of misery.

When I decide to operate from my own "knowledge" and capabilities, rather than allowing God to do it.

Playing God, making decisions without consulting Him.

Self pity, Victim mentalities, bad attitudes. I run from these.

Knit-picky-ness & PESTimism

Also taking the Bible literal in the wrong places.
(Example it really was 6 days in which God created everything while God does not really have feathers to cover us, but He does protect & shield us.)

My sin is what I can point to in life which drains my energy (saps my joy).

Specific to your example: When I'm irritated with someone's moaning....the best way to deal with it is to repent of my unrighteous anger, my lack of love for a loved one, stranger, enemy, ect. and for my lack of patience and gentleness...even though I usually do not say a word. Jesus was patient with me for decades of willful rebellion before I was able to put my trust in him, and yet I can't seem bear up for a few minutes of moaning?

Of course, repentance is easier said than done.

Only by his grace can I overcome such a seemingly trivial everyday occurence.

The biggest energy drainer in my life is when I worry about things I cannot change instead of going straight to God with my cares! This is something the Lord is dealing with in my life at the moment by putting me in situations where I can make no difference by worrying. I am someone who likes to be in control of my life but since surrendering my life to God in August of last year, my life is taking a turnabout and God is taking the reigns. It is difficult - I will not lie and I know I have much to learn from God in this process. I know that although everything seems out of control in the eyes of the world but with the eyes of faith God is doing something wonderful. God is faithful and His working is not dependant on my feelings mercifully.

Thank you God for your promise that You will never leave me nor forsake me even though it seems at times that You are far away. Thank you that faith is not dependant on feelings - help me to remember this. Thank you that this storm will come to pass and help me to be teachable in this situation. AMEN.

I once read or heard that worrying is like rocking in a rocking chair, it'll tire you but won't get you anywhere.
Also read, worrying is a sin because it's telling God you don't think He can handle the job.
His hands are big enough to hold the whole wide world, yet He cares enough to clothe the flowers & provide food for humans & animals.

As you know Little_1, what drains me is Christians who deny the bible and teach against it. None of us knows what it all means, and sharing study with other Christians is great. But i get worn out by people who say the Holy Spirit tells them parts of the bible are now wrong, also by self called Christians who accept some bible books but will tell you whole other books are now useless - some to the point of only believing in the death and resurrection of Jesus and NOTHING else.
I can feel the stress rising as i write, i must regain my trust in other christians and remember i am on a different site and so far people seem very biblical and loving. God bless, BibleBased.

Hello BibleBased - I know you will be encouraged on this site. Most of the people here are genuinely interested in learning and growing in their faith. Hopefully rather than being drained you will be blessed. It is a big forum - I still have not checked out all the different parts to this site!

Words coming out of peoples mouths may try to drain my energy.
But I keep my armor on. I am ready. I stand on Romans 8:28
Here is an example.
A few minutes ago I looked out the window and saw our neighbors garbage was out. I said out loud; "Oh yeah, today is Garbage Eve!"
My Husband groaned; "Oh no! It's garbage night %x*&#% I forgot..."
So I said; "Honey, do you mean, thank God it's Garbage night!
Thank God we have someone to take away our garbage!"
Then I walked into the garage where he was and asked;
"Do you want to hand me a garbage bag so I can help collect it from the house?"
He then said, "Yes...You are right. Thanks for helping. I'm sorry for complaining!"
I took the bag from him and said,"Honey, you like lemons in your water right?" (He squeezes a piece of lemon in his water until all the juice comes out of it!) This reminded me that "Sometimes you have to squeeze a bad situation until something good comes out of it!"
Then we both took out the trash and it started to rain, and my hair got all wet, but I didn't care, because the rain is clean, and I enjoyed the way it made the air smell so clean and fresh!!!

Yes, definitely!!!! And the worst part is sometimes I don't even realize I'm doing this until I'm really drained!

unfortunatly, My family saps me spiritually, and the closer I walk with God, the more I have to break with the emotionally. (and I am speaking of my mother and aunt, not of a husband and children.)
I was born and only child out without a ("biological") father in a verrry small family and even though my mom and me went to the catholic church when I was growing up, I wasnt saved and didnt know god or his love until just this year, and I am 24.
It hurts that my whole life, it was just me and my mom, and I have always needed her support and still do, and she wants the best for me

: I had left His light and became and alcoholic and addict, and have since recoverd, (and I truly feel I can say this because of the glory of gods restoration power in those who whole heartily seek him), i have been delivered from a demon, and I didnt even think it was possible at the time, and now I and seeing daily that he proves his truth and promises when you take steps of faith

my mom is very happy as long as I dont get "too into God". (same with my aunt)

Everytime I come around them, nomatter how filled I am, I just get tiered.
And I started to notice when I first came back from rehab. I was really starting to walk with grace in God and then I got home and there was just anger every time we were all together., and it pulled me back down some, but now I just have been spending hours worshiping and learing the word of God, and it is like she cannot stand it. it is like she is being used to tear at my faith and the Glory god is giving me.

I guess all I can do is pray for thier salvation(which others have come to give words of knowlege about)

may God's strength be with everyone who has to fight off the spiritual attacks, esspecially when the person has the spirit of pride in them

What drains my energy is hearing all the evil and sickness in the world. There is always something horrible happening or someone getting cancer. Seeing so much suffering in the world is just too much sometimes. I know there are a lot of people that need salvation, but sometimes you just wonder when all of this is going to end and when is Jesus coming back? I don't know how I ever made it without Jesus!
