I would have to agree about Dazed & Confused. I don't think any movie came closer to depicting my high school days. Someone tell me who the cool dude w/ the long hair was? Now, that would have been my boyfriend! Has a done a movie since? kd

One TV show I don't think anyone has mentioned: The Mary Tyler Moore Show. We liked that show in our family because my maiden name is Moore, and I have a sister named Mary.

But remembering that show brings a sad memory, too. When I was 11 (1975), some neighbors of ours were in a very bad car accident and some children we went to school with were killed, including a boy in my class who had been my friend. I remember the night that we heard about the accident, we were all sad, but there wasn't anything we could do. My parent sat us down in front of the TV to distract us, and we watched Mary Tyler Moore. That was the day they showed their most famous episode, the one where the clown was killed. It's the one episode I remember, and that's why I remember it.

Did anyone catch Chicago on the morning show on CBS today?

Wow...forgot all about how popular they were and how much of their music was on the radio.

I've been to a lot of concerts, and theirs is one of the best. Didn't catch them on tv today; wish I had.

Annie,

I know that was over 30 years ago, but it's still sad. Hope they knew the Lord.

I watched a couple of episodes of WKRP a couple of nights ago and was wondering why I thought it was so funny.

WoW, really? I still think that was classic humor, but oh well...is ok.

Hmm. Now I disagree about WKRP. I have the DVD, and I still think it's a fantastic hoot.

And it is even on sale right now at Best Buy too!

Sorry for the bad memory. BTW, MTM is on sale at Best Buy right now too! (Not that I want to sound like I am advertising or anything.)

I turned 7 in 1970---and I loved growing up in the '70's

Maybe some of this is repeat--
Didn't read the whole 12 pages:
Stairway to Heaven was our prom theme
Dad always had to watch the 'Spaghetti Westerns' (Clint Eastwood, etc) on TV
and "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom"
I got "Blinky's Fun Club" every morning before school
The first microwave ovens and dishwashers hit the market
John Travolta!
Party line telephones

yeah--
I could go on!

I could never make up my mind if I wanted to wear a Farrah Fawcett, Dorothy Hamill or Toni Tennielle haircut. I wound up with the Tennille.

Remember the Carpenters? Karen's voice was so pretty!

It was. She passed way too soon. :( I saw them in concert once, it was really good. He is a terrific pianist. We were pretty amazed.

I was in grade school then, but this is what I remember:

Favorite TV shows: Adam-12, Emergency!, Marcus Welby, Little House on the Prairie, Brady Bunch, All in the Family, Match Game, The Waltons

Favorite music & artists: "Playground In My Mind", by ???, "Delta Dawn" & "Ladies Love Outlaws" by Waylon Jennings, Charlie Pride, Johnny Cash, John Denver, Olivia Newton-John, etc.

Other memories: being upset because my favorite kid's shows were pre-empted by those boring Watergate hearings. Hearing about some oil crisis causing long lines at gas pumps. Elvis music playing on Christian music station during news report about his death. 8th grade graduation. Not being allowed to stay up to watch the "Midnight Special", even though favorite music artists were on it.

There's a lot more, but that's all I can think of for now.

EDITED TO ADD The Waltons

I wanted a Farrah and my mom always liked shorter hair so she wanted me to get a Dorothy Hamill. The Tennille was the first time that my mom agreed to compromise with me on my hair. I don't know why it mattered to her. I was taking care of my own hair.

Has anybody mentioned the show Grizzly Adams yet? My family used to watch TV together in the evenings and that was one of the shows we never missed an episode of. I think what I liked best about it was the opening song. Come to think of it, TV shows then seemed to have far better and more memorable openings than TV shows nowadays.

Oh, I agree, the theme songs back then were much better!

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale....

Even if I didn't like the shows, I usually liked the theme song.

I loved Adam-12, and I had a crush on Malloy.

Do you mean the song by Clint Holmes:

BTW, Clint Holmes is a staple in Vegas, and he does put on a very good show. Here's a sample:

I had a crush on Malloy too! I love Adam-12! I have season one on DVD. It was a show that dealt with serious matters that were real and didn't have a bunch of sex, violence, gore and foul language. Back then, if someone was killed, they didn't need to show the actions or the brains splattered all over the place and the viewer still knew the person was dead. Why do they think we can't figure that out now?

I think it's about the writing. When people aren't being wowed with all that stuff, there actually has to be good writing to hold their interest.

I can't remember if this was 70's or 80's but

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers with Richard Dean Anderson and a very very young River Phoenix. I also think there was another guy who became really popular, too.

Anyways...I loved the show for obvious reasons.
