I'm just a bill, now I am only a bill and I am here on Capital Hill.

What was the name of that guy? I can hear his voice, and see his face, but I can't remember his name. And I know he was Merv Griffin's bandleader. Maybe I'll go look it up. It's bugging me.

His name was Bill.

Wasn't that changed to Law at the end of the skit?

Okay, Merv Griffin's bandleader was Mort Lindsey. Not who I was thinking of. But I remember this guy (the guy who was the voice of the "bill", later the "law") as a trumpet player.

I just knew y'all were breathlessly awaiting this information.

Now would that be Jack Sheldon? He was a guest on A Prairie Home Companion once.

Yes! Yes! Ding ding ding! I knew I'd recognize the name when I saw it! He was on an episode of Star Trek the Next Generation once. A few other things I can't think of. Thanks, Mike!

Your welcome Pam, to be honest I did a Google search to find out who it was.

I did too, but apparently I didn't know what to enter. How did you find it?

(Sorry for being off-topic.)

Hi Pam, I do not remember what I exactly used for the websearch, but I think it included "I'm just a bill" and "school house rock" plus maybe the artist also.

Oh, okay, I was searching on Merv Griffin. Going at it from the wrong end. Thanks again!

I remember Romper Room from when I was really little. I always wanted one of those cardboard cars the kids ran around in. The "teacher" would look through that hand mirror and say that she could see children that were watching the show. She called out their names and I would yell "can you see me?", but she never did.

Oh yes, Romper Room was fun! That one and Zoom! The Electric Company, Sesame Street, etc.

I used to love playing with the Weeble Wobbles Treehouse at a cousin's house!

I also loved playing with the Fisher Price family house with all of the little people. The staircase was neat to the house. The little nursery set for the baby was great.

Anybody play with the Fisher Price Farm Set too? I liked joining the plastic white fence pieces together and playing with the animals. We were so simplistic back then, weren't we? We didn't need someone or something to entertain us --- we were it!!

Who was calling on the phone was a mystery until you answered, no caller ID.

I don't know if these were mentioned:

Tonka trucks that were made of metal with a few plastic parts rather than the other way around.

Lego that was only in block shapes so you put them together into whatever you wanted.

Gremlins not the little creatures but the AMC cars.

Remember Pinto cars?

And, didn't everyone grow up riding in a station wagon? I can remember going on long trips laying down in the "way back" of the station wagon (no seat belt - horrors!) We loved it. My sister and I used to sing for hours on these trips. Times were different then. But, it wasn't that long ago!!!

Our station wagon was not cool, though. It was a Matador. I don't even know who made that, but it was a boat, for sure and very ugly! It was one of those that you asked your Mom to drop you off far from the door at school and you didn't mind walking the extra few feet!

I guess I didn't realize that they weren't made of metal anymore.

I remember back in the 70s that Jack Sheldon performed a song about the Big Thicket in Texas. I wish I could find that song. I remember laughing until there were tears in my eyes when I heard it.

I remember playing with a Fisher-Price Farm! I had forgotten about that!

We had a big brown station wagon--at least I think I remember it as being brown--when I was little. I know we didn't have it past 1974, and that we did have it in 1972. I think it was actually made in the sixties, because my parents usually kept cars longer than that. It didn't have the wood grain on the side. We had some strange names for it. It was so big, we called it the Battle Wagon. And we didn't call the "way back" the "way back," but the "backety-back-back." Cars that did have wood grain on the sides we called "beavers" and we would nudge one another when we saw one. I always thought that the reason we never had a car that had that was because it cost extra, and with 10 kids, my parents didn't pay for very many extras.
