I was a kid in the 70's but there's no way I can remember when JFK was shot. That happened in 1963. I was on the way, but I wasn't born yet. But let's see...what do I remember that hasn't been mentioned yet? I remember learning disco dances in gym class, but was very ambivalent about doing them because my church believed that dancing was sinful. Homeschooling hadn't caught on yet, and I endured public school feeling different from my peers because of all the things we didn't do that they couldn't understand why we didn't do. What else do I remember? Wading in the creek and catching minnows. I guess that's not a shared experience of other seventies kids, (though I think legalism in churches, especially southern churches, is!) but how many kids would have the opportunity to do something like that today? Besides, we didn't have computer or video games then. Somehow, I think the creek was at least a little more wholesome, even though we had to make sure we stayed upstream of the cows!
