You remember JFK being shot, the Moon landing, the Beattles coming to America, listening to Wolfman Jack when he was still broadcasting from Mexico, Elvis dead, record players in cars, Vietnam on the news each night, varity shows on TV (Donnie and Marie, Captain and Tennille), 25 cent gas, the bicentennial (i was at the celebration in baytown texas), color TV introduced, Mark Spitz, going to the store and using the tube tester and buying a needle for your record player.

Could go on all day but will stop for now

Class of 76 and as I mentioned above, Kate Jackson was the hot one.

i spent July 4th, 1976 at disneyland...surrounded by a bunch of foreign tourists. go figure! lol

You were a 70's kid if you remember:

Mork and Mindy
WKRP in Cincinnati
The Muppet Show
Sesame Street
The Electric Company
Roller Skates With Keys
Walk Talkies
K-tel albums.

Yup!

...if you had a "The Fonz" poster on a wall at your house, where Fonzie is sitting on his motorcycle! And that poster was, I think, out of Dynamite magazine! Anyone remember that magazine? I think it might have actually come from school, like maybe through those Scholastic Book or something.Isn't it funny that one of the biggest hit shows of the '70s was actually about the '50s?

Speaking of Scholastic Books, I used to be so excited to get those book order forms and then when the brand, spanking new books came in...well, that was just so exciting. I generally ordered all books having anything to do with horses, like Black Stallion books, etc. I don't know if Black Stallion books were new in the '70s or not, though.

Oh yeah, the Fonz was the coolest!!

I loved the Scholastic Books too, but I very rarely got to order any.

did you see me? i was the little blonde in the blue floppy 70s-style hat...with MM and my name "KIM" embroidered on it. (i was soooooooo mad....the guy said the line was too long to do my whole name...kimberly. i did...and still do...hate the name 'kim' so i was kinda pouting that day. lol

i was also the one totally embarrassed bcuz my mom was just CRYING as the bicentennial parade went by that night. [sm=tongue.gif] now that i'm at a more 'mature' age and i appreciate the patriotic aspect of things more...i understand her tears. (ahem...and we'll leave it at that! lol)

I'm glad you've come to understand your mom a little. [sm=smile.gif]

Hey Kath- How on earth did you get a picture of me first thing in the morning for your av? [;)]

Kath -> RE: you know you're a 70s kid when .... (5/31/2008 9:26:44 PM)

[:D]

wareaglekd -> RE: you know you're a 70s kid when .... (6/2/2008 9:43:24 AM)

It's early in the morning.....the last posting put me into, "Chick-a-boom, chick-a-boom, don't cha just love it!" Okay, what cartoon was it they sang that on. It was the monster cartoon where they sang lots of songs on it like "Monster Mash." Great show on saturdays. Yes, cartoons are better for Saturday.

But, today, I'm more upset that "Must See TV" is more like "Trash TV". There is absolutely nothing for children to watch on regular television anymore, like back in our day. Truly sad. k

Conjunction, junction
whats your function?

Schoolhouse Rocks - rocked!

I graduated in 1976 so everything we had - class keys, themes, everything was bicentennial.

Was an actual hit by an early 70's group, however I believe it was also done in the new Flinstones Saturday morning cartoon as well.

I remember it from when my kids watched Sharon, Lois & Bram. not a 70's show though.

bzirk -> RE: you know you're a 70s kid when .... (6/2/2008 4:51:35 PM)

Did anyone mention black lights? Or strobes?

doinkdom -> RE: you know you're a 70s kid when .... (6/2/2008 5:12:35 PM)

I had black light posters on my ceiling and I also made my own with those poster kits you could get.

And it seemed everything was decorated in big giant flowers and neon colors - so annoying to me today [:D]

Anyone remember Rick Springfield's first hit, Speak to the Sky sometime in the mid 70's I think. The 45 had his picture on the front.

They were annoying back then too!

bzirk -> RE: you know you're a 70s kid when .... (6/2/2008 5:34:16 PM)

Why I ever liked that stuff, er, I guess I was that young and stupid. [&:]

I'm with you both. They are annoying.

BTW, I had a poster of the Winchester man on my ceiling.

Was that cartoon called "The Groovy Goulies?" k

wareaglekd -> RE: you know you're a 70s kid when .... (6/3/2008 9:40:17 AM)

Yes, found it in Wikopedia under Groovy Goolies. Can't post the link. k

No answering machines or cell phones. You called someones house and got one of three. Either no answer, a busy signal or they answered.

yep

and you knew it was time to go home when you could hear your mom calling for you from the back door [:D]

it was like paper cups and string...she'd yell and every kid between you and your house would relay the message till you got it and went home[:D]
