SavedByGraceMD -> Is anyone else put off..... (4/30/2008 11:16:30 PM)

.....sometimes by the amount of Atheists on this sight, trying to push their crack on us. I was just wondering. Sometimes it bothers me that they feel the need to come on this sight, to try to convince us we are wrong. I wonder if they realize they are here so we can convince them that they are wrong. But it does bother me that they feel the need to try to prove to us there is no God with factless gibberish. Does this bother anyone else? I found this scripture, do you think it fits?

Jude 1:4

For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

Ezra -> RE: Is anyone else put off..... (4/30/2008 11:35:18 PM)

No human being is born an "atheist", and as someone has said, there are no atheists in foxholes.

Frankly, when I see atheists posting on a Christian forum, it means that the Lord wants us to witness to them.

Perhaps the presence of atheists on a Christian forum is just another test for Christians. Then again, these so-called "atheists" may not even be thoroughly convinced that they are right, therefore the are seeking answers on a Christain forum (without necessarily realizing this).

Atheism, is simply a veneer to cover a deep-seated need to know the truth about life and the after-life. All their arguments are fundamentally specious, since creation itself reveals not only the existence, but the power and glory of the Godhead.

My response to your concern would be an open invitation to all atheists to come and learn the Truth -- about Christ and about themselves as sinners in need of a Savior.

At the same time, unbelief of any kind whatsoever -- whether in Christians or unbelievers -- is also a form of atheism. Unbelief is the real problem, and the antidote to unbelief is Scripture.

BTW, atheists are not necessarily seeking to be immoral, so that verse may not be entirely applicable.

Prairiehiker -> RE: Is anyone else put off..... (4/30/2008 11:44:40 PM)

No, I'm not put off by them. They challenge us to think clearly about what we believe.

Also, when I don't want to extend the attitude that people have towards Christians when we try to witness to them. A majority of people are so put off by that, too.

1love1God1way -> RE: Is anyone else put off..... (5/1/2008 12:10:05 AM)

They are some of my favorite posters.

I agree, I guess the old nature just comes out in me sometimes, and I get annoyed. But I know they are some of the lost we are supposed to be trying to reach.

I'm still rather new here but i would say for me, I'm not put off as long as the intent of this site is kept, meaning things dont start becoming hostile, or shrewd language, I came here becuase it was a open haven sourced in Christ. Anyone is welcome and encouraged to come here as far as i can see. I would consider it like a Church service, I'd imagine quite a few people who arent convinced by Christ or God enter them, maybe to find answers Which is a huge purpose here. But if its the intent of an individual to come here or to a church serivce to denounce or try to tear down Jesus Christ, The Lord, or the body of Christ (The church) than thats totally un-called for and probably shows a hidden angenda for malice. There are PLENTY of sources to go to in which someone can shred up any belief system, diety, religon, idealology etc.

This immediately popped in my head after reading the OP:
4:2 preach the word; be ready in season {and} out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.

Maybe He is sharpening your skills?[;)]

Seriously. I've been thoroughly enjoying reading their posts. It's put me in a mood to start seriously going into apologetics.

SonInMe1 -> RE: Is anyone else put off..... (5/1/2008 7:56:42 AM)

Some come to argue. Some truly believe WE are the ones who need the help.

The christians here can get under my skin more than any secularist/athiest. Christians are supposed to...know better.

UBarW -> RE: Is anyone else put off..... (5/1/2008 11:10:26 AM)

I really dont feel any pressure from those whose beliefs differ from mine. Thats a good thing when it comes to politics, too.

Kat_D -> RE: Is anyone else put off..... (5/1/2008 11:19:12 AM)

I noticed that most of those that say they don't bug them haven't been here very long...give it time![sm=growlwarning.gif]

There are some that have bothered me. An example would be the muslim who was on the site a few days ago. To me it seemed that he did not want to discuss things, or hear what anyone said. He would just ignore posts like some of yours SavedByGraceMD and some others that would disprove what he was saying. I felt like he was just useing this forum as a platform to speak against christian beliefs, and I resented that.

But with that said, I also pray that maybe there was some seeds planted with him, that will one day come to fruit. Over all I enjoy talking with most and I am happy to be able to wittness to them, try to show them Jesus's love, and (Lord willing) plant some seeds.

Over all we need to love them.

Yeah I know. Did they boot him off. For some reason I held no animosity towards him. He didn't bother me, I just wasn't sure of exactly what he was trying to say. I have actually been trying to witness patiently to those I can, but am generally knew to this. So at times I think the frustration is actually me not knowing what to say, but wanting so badly to say something, anything, if it is of the Lord.

I agree, I hope I am not 1 of those who get under your skin. I try to witness patiently, but sometimes my emotions get in the way. I actually stopped going to another sight because I was shocked at what Christians believed and said on that sight. I hope I don't come across like that. I am generally a new believer, and come here to learn, and get guidance, and just talk. But if I do say something that is not right, I hope someone will tell me. I won't hold it against them.

sparkleingsnow -> RE: Is anyone else put off..... (5/1/2008 12:03:56 PM)

SavedByGraceMD, I have read some of your posts, wittnessing to unbelievers, and I think you do a great job of telling them the truth in a loving way. :)

Thank you,I give all the credit to the Lord.

I just wanted to add, that I think Ignited-Faith (as well as several others on this site), set a greatexample of wittnessing to unbelievers in love.

I don't think it fits atheists because they haven't secretly slipped in among us. Usually they're pretty blunt. [;)] And they don't "change the grace of our God into a license for immorality" because they don't believe in God - how can they exploit the grace of God?

But yeah, I tend to stay out of arguments with atheists.

GroupW -> RE: Is anyone else put off..... (5/1/2008 12:56:30 PM)

I rarely will argue with them. I really enjoy talking with them though.

We have an atheist/agnostic circle of friends that my wife did a "Jesus 101" class for. They loved it & learned a bunch, dispelled some misconceptions, had a great time, and heard the gospel.

I think it's a hoot.

Jhud -> RE: Is anyone else put off..... (5/1/2008 4:53:34 PM)

As a former agnostic myself, I certainly relate with them, and actually enjoy my interactions with them here; but they don't always particularly care for me.

Rather like my relationship with jalepenos.

Marcus. -> RE: Is anyone else put off..... (5/1/2008 4:57:51 PM)

Jalapneos don't like you Jhud?

Marcus. -> RE: Is anyone else put off..... (5/1/2008 5:03:12 PM)

IMO their doubts outweigh any evidence they have heard. They come here to see how we respond to them (do we live it) and how we handle the doubts we all have as well (the ones that nag us in the middle of the night when everything is quiet and distractions are gone). Maybe the way one of us responds or the doubts we have quieted will make an impact with them as well. That is what got through to me several years ago. Some of the questions and answers Josh McDowell battled helped quell my own.

LOL, really.

Well after reading some of your posts, I am glad to have Christians like you who seem to know a lot more on the scientific front than I do. You can battle the scientific points with them, much better than I can. Sometimes it seems like my best response to a question would go like this

well i just know, so hah, nanny nanny poo poo.

I can at times feel quite childish in my remarks. So it is nice to have someone of faith be able to back us up.
