Well, you've brought up a rant, dear Nadine;

I will call my Dad--but I liked how you described it: it's like asking him to take a break from running the world. And for big things, I do call him because I have to. But that's no guarantee that anything will be accomplished.

But I long ago gave up on him and every other male in my family and church as far as help with smaller things like changing light bulbs or filters or hanging stuff.

And the church...oh, don't get me started on the church. I think I may have mentioned here once the story of the deacon who drove by my house everyday, saw my lawn becoming higher and higher, and when my lawn was mentioned in a conversation, he said

"Yeah, I saw that and wondered what the deal was."

DUH!!!

The DEAL, dude, is that I'm a widow with four children (three of them are girls and they are busy, too) two part time jobs and going to school full time. My father, as helpful as he is, is nearly 80 years old.

You are a DEACON, for cryin' out loud. If you wonder what's going on with my lawn, you could MOW it, you know!!!

So I've learned to get it done myself or do without.

Esther my friend, we really do need to sit down and chat over a cup of Joe...When are you coming? The Doors open, come anytime.

You got COFFEE???? I'm on my way...

Seriously, though, it would be lovely to come visit. The door is open here, too.

Have you had a similar experience?

Okay, Which one of you prayed?

One of my closest friends just called and said her husband is going to be in the area and do I need anything done.

I need to run and straighten up the house a tad so I'm not embarrassed when he gets here.

Thanks by the way!
God you are too funny!

Sooo, I got the house straightened up(which took way longer than I thought it would) and he came and he changed all of my light bulbs (He brought his own long life bulbs) He also brought my china hutch which was stored at a friends and he went to my mother-in-laws house to pick up some occasional tables that she gave me. Plus, he brought a bag of books from his wife, one of my dearest friends. But the best thing was his attitude about it. He so wanted to be helpful. Never once did he make me feel like I was putting him out. God really has given me awesome friends, including you all. Thanks!

I really feel for you Fritz and SharMar, not having any family at all to ask for help. I kinda felt ridiculous for complaining after I read your posts. I hope you guys have a great church family....if not I pray that God will bless you with one.

Todays Thot from the Spot
Thank you, Nadine! I'm very glad that your friend came over and helped you out so much; that's wonderful! I also liked your thot from the spot that you linked us to. The icecream cone analogy made me smile.

BTW, no need to feel ridiculous; people simply have different backgrounds.

I very much appreciate the prayers you mentioned above.

At the moment, no, I don't have a church family (great nor otherwise). Last October I moved to a different state; and without going into an incredibly long story that involves my not driving, my trike being delivered from the movers somewhat damage (and therefore inoperable), no bus service back in January and February (plus when the service is running, there are no set pick-up / drop-off times to rely on) and a couple of other extraneous aspects, it's been incredibly challenging finding a new church. But I also trust and believe in Our Lord's Timing, and I know that is going to get resolved one way or another.

Yay, Nadine! I'm so happy for you that your friend's husband came and helped you and did so without that "attitude"!

Ditto! You've blessed me by sharing your blessing!

And, please don't feel ridiculous on my account. That sure wasn't my intention.

........ ooooooo very cool to read about Nadine's blessing!! Go God!!!

I know that God loves us so much... even when we don't know who to call... God provides a way for help.

A few weeks ago... my mom needed to get my dad's suburban fixed so she could sell it... (Dad died in January.)

She was so distraught because we don't really have a 'family' mechanic.

She opened the phone book and just started at the top of the list of diesel mechanics.

The first one... there was a busy signal

The second one... the guy answered. He turned out to be a wonderful Christian man who helped beyond his job expectations... He even took a hit on the labor in order to make the repair job more affordable to mom.

God rocks.... it's wonderful how we are all part of a super huge family.... wonderful how our Father takes care of us!!!

Which role is he playing?

From something Tink said on another thread, apparently one of the grumpy old men.

Cool. Jack Lemmon or Walter Mathau?

Well I think I'd be Mathau, I think he was funnier.

Edited to fix my lack of typing skills.
