Have you ever anxiously awaited a new release by one of your favorite bands just to be disappointed - that it wasn't what you expected.

I had that happen to me twice in the last year. First came Pillar's "The Awakening" and just recently P.O.D.'s "When Angels and Serpents Dance". Both were big disappointments for me. Every time I pre-order a CD, I'm disappointed. That's why I won't buy until I try!

Share you disappointments. Musical only. Relationships are another area altogether.[;)]

They're a Japanese band, LOVE PSYCHEDELICO. Their last album, GOLDEN GRAPEFRUIT. I love their previous stuff, chill but has an energy behind it, and it felt there was only one song on the album like that, and that was the one they used to promote it. So I felt duped, still, on the whole, I love their work.

Ai Otsuka's (another Japanese artist) releases as they come out, it seems they get worse each time and she's trying to redo a song she had done in the past.

as you can tell, I listen to Japanese music lol

Relient K - Five Score, Apathetic
Hawk Nelson - Smile, Is My Friend
Sanctus Real - Face of Love, We Need Each Other

and pretty much every CD I've bought since '06 Except for Drive Thru Records and PRP! stuff.

The last two Blind Guardian releases.

The biggest was Crimson Glory's "Strange But Beautiful". A legit metal band in 1988 this 1990 (or 91) followup channeled Great White way too much for my taste. Lesson here: don't listen to music execs, they'll take away everything that made you special and recast you as the same junk that everyone else does. Only plus was that they did a much better job at it than Great White because they are far more creative.

Wow, I like the Relient K release above, and IMO, that Hawk Nelson release is their best ever. I also love Sanctus Real's "Face of Love" but I don't have the new one yet.

Biggest disappointments:
1. Fireflight "Unbreakable" - because the hit single is incredible, but the CD as a whole is bland.
2. Emery "I'm Only a Man" - I like the first few songs on this album, but after that it is forgettable. Their old stuff is MUCH better.
3. After Edmund "Hello" - I love the first single from this album, "Fighting for Your Heart" which led me to buy it. Unfortunately their are only a few tunes that I REALLY enjoy on it.

I'm still waiting to buy the newest from Children 18:3, The Afters, and a few others when I get the cash, hopefully they won't be huge letdowns.

Five Score - Relient K (yeah they're a great band, but it was completely different from their other stuff)
Hawk Nelson is Your Friend - Hawk Nelson

My biggest dissapointment was in Amy Grant. I have no idea what problems she and her first husband were having, but she was responsible for the reakup of not one but two marriages. God can fix anything if you give Him a chance to. My wife and I are a testament to that. We gave each other plenty of reasons to divorce one another but we hung in there and kept God the center of our marriage through Jesus Christ. This august we will celebrate 29 years of marriage and still going strong. I think of all the people who were having marital troubles. They saw what Amy did and figured if she is divorcing her husband its okay. Afterall she is a christian artist. In a world where divorce is almost the norm, we need more christians who will follow the will of God and not the will of man.

I guess I'm most disappointed in the fact that DC Talk ceaced to exist at their peak. They just walked away and have given every excuess under the sun. They say they'll get back togather but I won't hold my breath.

I was dissappointed by Metallica's St. Anger. Not my favorite record! [sm=aside.gif]

I actually liked it but then again I'm not a big metallifan. Its raw and aggressive.

I think many fans keep wanting Master of Puppets 2 and anything short of that is a disappointment (not necessarily you, I can't read your mind). Metallica is unwilling and unable to do that at this stage of their careers.

To me Load & Reload were bigger disappointments because they were so watered down. Even the self titled one was disappointing, not nearly subversive enough. Too much of a Metallica dumbed down for mainstream appeal feel. St. Anger wasn't made to appeal to the mainstream (despite all the silly nu metal comparisons).

hawkchix -> RE: Your biggest disappointment! (5/21/2008 11:44:12 AM)

Emery-I'm Only a Man was really not a great as everyone was saying it was going to be in my opinion.I was listening to the Tooth and Nail Records podcast and it wasn't all tham amazing.However,I did really like the song "After the Devil Beats His Wife" but that's about it.

mapachito13 -> RE: Your biggest disappointment! (5/21/2008 6:15:03 PM)

I have to agree about Reliant K. What ever happened to the Reliant K of "Anatomy of Tongue In Cheek" and "Two Lefts..." albums.

rlj -> RE: Your biggest disappointment! (5/21/2008 7:32:02 PM)

The "Black" album by Metallica. It was overproduced pop trash. There isn't a song off of it I liked. I did however used to have a bootleg that had outtakes from it those were real good. They were raw and rocking before Bob Rock butchered them.

They grew up and started to make more mature music. I felt the same way about Springsteen as you do about Relient K. Whe he stopped singing about cars and girls he got boring.

cheeky_monkey -> RE: Your biggest disappointment! (6/18/2008 10:43:05 PM)

I loved Clay Aiken's first CD but was very disappointed in his second one that was mainly cover songs. I'm just glad I was able to preview it at amazon before buying it first. Thumbs down!

I stopped listening to Springsteen after "Nebraska" (depressing) and he seemed to lose his inspiration that created his early songs that created those great albums "Darkness on the Edge of Town", "The River" "The Wild, The Innocent & the E Street Shuffle" and "Born to Run". Even "Greetings from Asbury Park NJ" was better than some of his latter songs I've heard.

redeemedsaint -> RE: Your biggest disappointment! (6/20/2008 5:52:36 PM)

Mariah Carey's Rainbow CD. I liked her older stuff better, then she started to go in that rap style that Mary J Blige has. Not for me.

I agree. I loved her early stuff. I don't think I've liked anything of hers since the early 90s.

Casper22 -> RE: Your biggest disappointment! (6/22/2008 4:50:00 AM)

My biggest disapointment Christian wise was Strypers Reborn cd ok cd but not great. Michael Sweet can still scream and sing I watched him do it on the Reborn tour but he totally ignores the screams and higher singing style of old on the new cd. Besides Reborn sounded like more of a Michael Sweet solo cd than a Stryper cd Deliverance. They dropped the speed and went David Boey alternative rock Amy Grant im more disgusted with those who prefer to listen to the media and ignore her side of the story. Sensationalism sells I know but let it go already Sandi Patti done far worse so move on theres always to sides to every story. Chapman was no innocent

BlackCapnHarlock -> RE: Your biggest disappointment! (6/22/2008 8:55:41 AM)

1. Theory Hazit-- Extra Credit terrible CD.

2. Cross Movement-- All CD's after "house of representatives" too preachy never changed their style.

3. MXPX-- "Panic" a bad cd with one good song.

4. JENNIFER KNAPP-- biggest disappointment ever, 2nd and 3rd CDs were horrible, a true one hit wonder.

A ton of other CDs by lesser artists like Three Crosses, The Insyderz, Knowdaverbs (his first CD was bad, 2nd one is excellent).

I could do a 20 page thread . . . .Also T Bone's "Bone a fide" was garbage, why not just go secular and stop faking like he's a Christian artist? Him and his fellow biters the Gospel Pranksters should have gone away years ago.

Actually, their upcoming new album, Death Magnetic, is supposed to be a return to form for them. They are going back to their classic 80's thrash style, so they say, so let's see what happens. They actually admit
St. Anger was a mistake. Something they just had to get out of their system, but not the Metallica we know and love (but then again, neither were the past several releases).

Btw, someone shared their disappointment about Amy Grant's marriage.
Uhh, this thread is about MUSICAL disappointments, as Mapachito insisted in the starting thread.
