ORIGINAL: Ephesians4_32 quote:
ORIGINAL: URForgiven There is good reason for this, God knows we already love ourselves and have no problem forgiving ourselves. Well, maybe I'm different. I do have trouble forgiving myself. So do a lot of people. One of the hardest things to get past is a deliberate sin; it's easy to fall into the "how could I have done that and be a Christian???" thought process. That can be difficult to forgive. Not everyone loves himself/herself either...Sometimes people have to learn to love themselves. I have to work continually at attempting to see myself as God sees me. I guess it is harder for some than others though, just like anything else.

I know I don't deserve God's forgiveness, but He gives it to me anyway. Ephesians 4 32And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. Titus 3 3For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 4But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

That is the more biblical attitude. Thanks, DaveW, but it is both. And Calea needed to be reminded of Whose she is and the beauty He has given to her and how He sees her.

If God forgives us, who are we to not forgive ourselves? If God forgives us, why should we even care what we think of ourselves? What value do you really bring to you if you are hoplessly enslaved to sin without God?

IMO I believe that the "self forgiveness" we refer to is no more than the residual shame of the sin for which we have been forgiven. We refer to forgiving ourselves when in fact, we probably need to work through the pain and shame of the situation or sin from whence it came. Self-forgiveness is not in the bible.
