I'm trying to sell something on craigslist and the buyer wants to use Alertpay instead of paypal. Is this real? It looks legit to me, but I've never heard of it before.

Any opions/thoughts/experience here???

Thanks

I don't know if it is ligit or not.

One thing you could do, is set up a new account with your bank. Leave as little money in it as you are allowed, then use that account as your processing account. That way if the site is not ligit, you only get burnt for the balance on that account, not everything in your "REAL" account.

At my business we have a similar thing, we have people call us wanting to place an order. But want to pay via wire, I don't know who they are if they are real or just trying to rip my business off. So we have an account that has a zero balance, we tell them to wire to that account. When the funds hit, we transfer to the right account (generally within 24 hours) so the balance remains zero. That way if someone contacts the bank and trys to wire the funds out, they are told there is no balance. The account is not a ZBA (zero balance account) that sweeps the funds, it is an account that we maintain at zero.

Thanks for your input.

The verdict is still out on whether or not alertpay is legit. However, I've decided the buyer was trying to scam me and I backed out. I'm not going to do anything further with my alertpay account. It's sitting with a zero balance right now and no checking account attached to it.
