truthrevealed -> What is going on??? (5/9/2008 6:58:47 PM)

I have a Dell(windows Xp). For months now the computer shuts "down" after it has been idle. It doesn't cut off completely(the lights on both the monitor and tower are still on but no moving of the mouse or pressing of keys engages the screen. After I completely shut down and turn back on I've gotten the message that the system has recovered from a serious.... Can anyone help?(pretty computer illiterate :)

Sounds like your computer is having problems resuming from hibernation. Most likely your power settings are set to hibernate after x minutes of inactivity. I was never able to get either standby or hibernation work on my desktop (like many other people I came across), so I just decided to leave the comptuer on at all times during the day, and then have the monitor itself shut down/go into power saver mode after 20-30 mins of inactivity. If you want to save energy, the monitor uses the most anyways (or so I've been told).

You can experiment with different settings--maybe standby will work for you--at any rate, you can access power settings for both computer and monitor by going to control panel and selecting power options.
