Hello, Ladies!! Man, it was a marathon to read what I missed with you all over the weekend! Wow!

We had a good weekend, although I didn't get too much sleep. My 2 yo niece slept in our room and tossed, sighed, mumbled, and snored all night long!! She slept through the night, but kept dh and I awake for large parts of the night. Anyhow, we had a good visit with my bro and sil and a nice break from our lives.

MammaMilty sent me the lion video and it made me cry. I'm turning into such a baby!!

Christina- have you gotten settled into your new home, yet?

Welcome, his_kid!!

Wait a minute, I think someone fixed the problems with phantom pages that would only give you an error message when you clicked on them. [:)]

zoebob -> RE: SAHM Support Part II (7/22/2008 12:43:46 PM)

That was a cute video. We just saw Running Free this morning at the free movie at the theater. it's about a colt that was brought to Africa and separated from his mother. An orphan boy who worked for the head of the mining company took him in. Then WWI came and the town was bombed so the people left. 12 years later the boy came back as a grown man and found the horse.

He would start with testing the battery though...much cheaper to replace then the alternator

I know he's a mechanic and I am only a mechanic's daughter, lol, but I would not do that. Basically because if the alternator killed the battery, and you replace the battery without testing the alternator, you may end up buying two batteries AND an alternator. So I would test both and hope it was the former. Really, though, a bad battery will not make a car die while running, in general.

yeah that's what he said...sorry, I typed it wrong

quote:

Maggie- AutoZone and also Advance Auto both can do tests for you to see what it is (for free).

I think that's what he meant when he said start with testing it...he meant both I think.

Christi...what happened with you moving? did you move? decide against it?

3cappuccinosmom -> RE: SAHM Support Part II (7/22/2008 1:58:54 PM)

{{{Christi}}} I would have felt the same way. Glad you are home for now. [:D]

Chelsea, that is an awesome picture. [:D]

We have an appointment tomorrow for the van. Not the cheapest place, but the closest. If we jump it, I think we can get it there. [&o] But that place is pretty decent because they don't have a problem if dh wants to go get parts for cheaper, at least.
Do auto parts places do mobile testing? Josiah is actually pretty brilliant with repairing things, and if he knew what the problem was, had the parts, and just some basic instructions, I bet he could fix it himself.

Since we are stuck at home, we did a whole bunch of school this morning, and thankfully everyone cooperated. Asrat's first progress report and test pages are in the envelope and ready to go as soon as school officially opens. Until I get to talk to his main instructor, I'm just having him do the pages he's required to send in and reinforcing anything he's not 100% on, though that's only one or two things per 20 lessons. He may start 1st grade in December, if we keep up this rate. [&:]

Our first year of HSing DD2 did 1st and 2nd grade books in one year

We haven't moved yet. We're thinking maybe next Fall. There are some projects to do on our house before we put it on the market.

Thank you!!!

Ugh, car problems. Sorry to hear that.[:@]

I heard about a new park here in town that has one of those water fountain parks in it. Took GB there today and it was a blast! Gotta love free fun.[sm=biggrin.gif]

Georgia-Peach -> RE: SAHM Support Part II (7/22/2008 3:01:42 PM)

Chelsea - Love the new avatar pic, too cute!

I really should be doing laundry, but I am unmotivated today. I don't know if Hunter is just having a rough start this week or if it is terrible 2's starting, but he is being very temperamental. He is very stubborn as well with listening when we tell him no touch. He will wait till we go back to what were doing or wait till we sit back down to do it again. Hubby finally spanked him last night for not obeying and he still tried doing it.

I feel so much better this week than I did last week, emotionally and I am so glad to be off birth control. Even though we are not officially trying yet I am still excited about the thought of a new little one. It is nice just to be feeling normal again, I forgot what that felt like.

Well I need to go be productive...

Room2Grow -> RE: SAHM Support Part II (7/22/2008 3:41:02 PM)

Maggie- call the two I mentioned- I know they have them around there, just not sure which would be closer for you and see if they would let Josiah bring one home. They may put it on credit card until he returns it (my husband has done that with tools from there). Definitely have him go talk to them- Paul had *never* done it and they told him just what to do and he had no trouble at all- it is usually easy since it is close to the battery (thus not under, around, over, or through ten things to get to it)- and it is (can be) as easy as Unscrew the one in there, screw this one in, hook up the leads, and done.

My wonderful husband did come home so I could go this morning. I am so glad I went. Horribly difficult and terribly convicting. Dad actually spoke and said that as he was praying so furiously for Vivi God asked him why his heart would break over his little girl who would go to heaven if she died, yet not break for all those who did not know Him. Ouch...I'll be thinking on that for quite awhile...

Maggie, if he could get the alternator out himself and take it in, they could test it there. Then if that was the problem, he could just get a new one and bring it home and install it.

The instructions could probably be easily found on the internet. That's what my hubby does. He's mechanically inclined, but usually finds what he needs online and prints it off and takes it out with him.

ETA.... if you want to tell me what kind of car you have, I might be able to look for you.

nicole6598 -> RE: SAHM Support Part II (7/22/2008 7:19:26 PM)

Wow Jennifer, that would have been hard. And that was very convicting what God told the dad huh? I am glad you were able to go and show your support.

Maggie- hopefully you can get the car fixed as cheap as possible!!

Zippy- glad you had a great time away. LOL about your niece :)

I am going to try some more baking today, chocolate brownies. I am using cocoa though instead of chocolate (dairy) so hopefully it still tastes as good.

Yolanda- I love that photo of you and Chase

I once had vegan brownies and they were amazing, so I'm sure yours will turn out well!

HERE is a recipe for brownies that uses cocoa and not baking chocolate. It does have butter in it and it also has a cream cheese topping, but you can omit the cream cheese topping. The brownies are very moist and yummy on their own!

I did a bunch of baking today - pita pockets, lemon shortbread cookies and hummus. I love feeling productive! [:)]

HisCovenant -> RE: SAHM Support Part II (7/22/2008 8:44:37 PM)

Can I have the recipe for pitas?

isaacsmom -> RE: SAHM Support Part II (7/22/2008 8:47:22 PM)

I always make my brownies with cocoa instead of chocolate, because I never have the baking chocolate on hand. The substitute for baking chocolate is 3 tbsp. cocoa and 1 tbs. oil for each ounce of chocolate. They always turn out fine!!

HERE it is. They are so good.
I am going to try making different things with the dough - today I took a bit of it and put pesto, turkey, pepperoni and cheese inside it (like a Hot Pocket) and cooked it. SO yummy!

Sideways -> RE: SAHM Support Part II (7/22/2008 8:52:00 PM)

I did a lot of cooking/cleaning too, today! It's a lot easier with Greg taking a day off to be home with us. I made rice pudding with peaches, Black & White Salad and some fresh bread.

Is anyone else ever a little surprised at the stuff their parents let them watch as a kid? I mean, my folks did practice censorship. I remember being quite perturbed that I couldn't see Dirty Dancing at the theater. But today I caught about 20 minutes of a movie called Mannequin. Does anyone else remember that movie? I'm kinda surprised my folks let me watch that.[8D]

YES!!! LOL! I totally remember that movie.

ChelseaRae -> RE: SAHM Support Part II (7/22/2008 9:31:37 PM)

Thanks for all the comments on my darling ladies! She is such a doll!

Seems like we have had productive days all around! I got everything done on my list today, it feels really good! I love it when my husband comes home to a nice clean house, a warm dinner, and a happy wife. I can see what a blessing it is for him and it makes me feel good.

Jess you are a superwoman!![sm=icon_smile_super.gif] I think Mary was two months old the first time I baked something!

nicole6598 -> RE: SAHM Support Part II (7/22/2008 9:56:55 PM)

LOL Ruth, my mum didn't censor much. We watched Flashdance [sm=eek.gif], Grease, Dirty Dancing, Mannequin (I loved that movie) and lots of others. I was watching Drop Dead Fred the other day with Grace (mum used to let us watch it all the time) and realised how very inappropriate it is!

Thanks Jess, the brownies turned out good, I didn't add an extra egg that the receipe called for, I was kind of using 3 different recipes LOL I will try yours next time though!

Just wondered what he was touching, Chelle. Was it the same as before (water bowl?) or something different?

Yeah... even Bugs Bunny, now that I am an adult and get all the jokes!!

3cappuccinosmom -> RE: SAHM Support Part II (7/23/2008 7:03:18 AM)

My parents let me watch late-night mysteries, like Sherlock Holmes. They had to, because the only TV was in my room for a while, as it was the only place to put it. [8D]

Maybe that's why I sometimes let my kids watch Monk with me, though I do black out the screen when I smell a gorey body or a kiss coming along.

Something different. We have a tall lamp next to the rocking chair in the living room and he likes rocking it back and forth. So, that is our new issue. The water bowl is not much of an issue these days because for my sanity I had to start putting it up. I put it down during nap time, dinner time, and after he is in bed.

lexie -> RE: SAHM Support Part II (7/23/2008 9:39:20 AM)

My parents censored absolutely nothing with me. Well, obviously porn and stuff wasn't allowed, but for regular movies, I could watch anything. The only thing I couldn't watch was Silence of the Lambs (and having watched it as an adult, I thank them for it.)

Dh grew up without a tv, and even when they did get one, they had one television channel, so the station did the censoring for them!

We're trying to come to an agreement about what our children will be allowed to watch, what is worth a fight and what isn't.

I've decided to stop watching movies with my BIL and his kids. They will rent any movie and then censor things as they go. Problem is, if there's a swear word, he mutes it, but he always mutes too late, so we hear the swear, and then he mutes other dialogue so he needs to rewind to get what he missed, and we end up hearing the swear again!

Any day now I'll start baking!!!
