For those of you have been married, what have you done with your wedding rings?

For the widows / widowers especially, are you saving your or your spouse's rings for your children?

Would you please include a time reference in your response, as to how long since your divorce or spouse's death to present and /or to what you've done with your rings. Thanx!

I'm divorced but I still have my wedding ring. It's gorgeous and I've been told to make another piece of jewelry out of it but I haven't got around to it. Perhaps one day I'll do something, but I definitely won't use it again as a ring.

I have hubbys ring (which had to be cut off of his hand) and my engagement and wedding rings in a memorial box. I have no idea what I am going to do with mine since I have 3 daughters. I also have a five year ring. I could give each of them one of my rings and keep hubbys for myself, but that would split up my bridals ring set??? I'm not sure what I will do. I guess I will know at the time.

Almost four and a half years.

I divorced last October. Separated the October before. I still have not disposed of the engagment ring. I finally decided that I am going to sell it on ebay and buy a saxophone with the money. I do not remember where I threw my wedding band after I learned of the affair, so that is lost.

My mother was widowed. My sister got her wedding rings and I got my dad's rings when we were adults. I wore my dad's ring when I walked down the aisle. It meant a great deal to me to have that piece of my father.

Memorial Box

I am looking for something to use as an urn that matches it. I gave the urn to my Mother-in-law. I really want something decorative that I can leave out. But nothing that looks too much like an urn. KWIM.
How old were you when your Dad died?

My daughter has my wedding rings from her dad and my marriage. When I decided not to wear them any more after his death I transferred them to a chain around my neck, then quit wearing them at all.
My ex-husband forced me to give up my original wedding rings and sell them back to the jeweler so he could raise money for his trip to India. He bought me a $12.00 silver ring to replace it, and said as he handed it to me,"I hope you remember you are married."
When he called with nasty comments to me from India, I threw it in the trash, never to be seen again.
Obviously I need to work on forgiving him for that, I am so angry just thinking about it!

When did you decide not to where the rings? How long after He died, if you don't mind my asking?

I'm afraid I don't remember Nadine, my guess would be a couple of months, but it may have been a little shorter timeframe.
You can ask me anything you want, I'm pretty open.

I know it took my mother over a year before she stopped wearing the rings. She was only 34 when my father died. She just kept the ring in her jewelry box.

My first marriage . . . I took the rings off the day I left him (which was back in mid '83). I never wore them again. I don't remember how long I kept them, but it was several years before I decided not to keep them (and I kept them that long only because I thought that's what "one did").

With CS . . . we had very unusual weddings rings . . . mine was a "daisy" with the center stone being coral and the surrounding petals being turquoise; everything set in silver. Circumferentially, the top petal reach the bottom knuckle of my ring finger. CS's was a very large oval shaped, domed silver ring with black etching in it.

After he died (June, 2005), I wore my ring probably for 10-12 months. I also periodically wore his ring on the middle finger of my other hand and sometimes my thumb (but the ring was very large, so I stopped doing that after a couple of months so as not to risk loosing the ring). Currently both rings from my marriage to CS are in a pink organza drawstring jewlery bag and the bag is in a box of CS stuff.

I didn't have children with either husband; so that part isn't applicable (besides, I highly doubt anyone would want to use CS and my rings for wedding rings - LOL)

In October this year I will have been divorced for 4 years. We were separate for 18 months before that.

My wedding band and engagement ring, which is a small diamond solitaire are in a fire proof box. There is also a wrap that goes with the solitaire. Also all of the other jewelry he gave me is in there.

I have not done anything with any of them yet. I have thought of selling them to a jewler or to a local pawn shop. Now that the price of gold is so high I might get a better price for them that I would have 4 years ago.

I have had co-workers tell me to save them for my children, or have them re-set into another piece. The later suggestion is too expensive for me. The solitaire with the wrap looks like a regular ring. If I ever loose enough weight for it to fit I will keep it. I will probably give the necklaces to my daughter on special occasions. I'm still thinking about selling the wedding band.

I had a gorgeous wedding ring that I hated to get rid of (it was customized) but I traded it in for a diamong ring and diamond earrings. I wouldn't have gotten anything even close to it's worth to pawn it or sell it.

Sharon-Marie, yours and CS' wedding rings do indeed sound very special.

I'm guessing that by "not keeping" the first set, you mean you sold them?

No, Pruned, I didn't sell my first wedding rings; they weren't valuable; and, well, I wasn't really interested in getting any money for them even if they had been valuable.

I don't actually remember what I did with them. Knowing me, I put them in with a bunch of stuff that I donated to a thrift shop (LOL) or I threw them away.

I've been widowered now for 2 1/2 years.

I wore my ring for about a year after M went home. Until my official grieving was done and I thought I was ready to look again.

Now both rings are in M's jewelry box, which is now the Girl's jewelry box. I bought M lots of colored stone rings and stuff. I loved colored stones and loved her so it was a good match. So the Girl will have lots and lots of rings and things to wear when she is older.

I had quit wearing my wedding rings long before my ddh was killed. I was a homemaker and it was always in the way--he didn't mind. They are still in my jewelry box. I hadn't given any thought to what I might do with them, except perhaps have them remade into rings for a second marriage, should God grace me with that.

I still have his wedding ring. At first, when things were really hard, I'd wear it on my thumb...but it is very large. For a long time I wore it on a chain along with the cross made from nails that he had worn every day since his Walk To Emmaus. For many years I wore that necklace every day, even after I took the ring off.

Now I just wear the necklace when things are feeling really hard. Several years ago I added a small piece of jewelry that represents the scripture about God keeping all our tears in a bottle.

The ring resides with mine in the jewelry box. My daughter who is anticipating the possibility of a wedding next summer really liked the idea posted above about wearing her dad's ring when she walks down the aisle.

Interesting topic...

My wedding ring is in a small box w/ some of the other jewerly that my ex gave me, I haven't quite decided what to do w/ it.

I have however, already given many of the jewerly items that ex gave me to my children... most of those things would go to them anyway, especially like the items he gave me when each of them were born or when the adoption was final. DD#1 has the earrings that he gave me when she was born, Twin #1 has the ring that he gave me when they were born, Twin #2 has another ring, DD#4 has the pin and etc.... they were very happy when I gave those items to them. I was glad did.

I have my own mama's original wedding ring set.... I was never quite sure how Daddy decided to give it to me after she died, especially since I have 3 older sisters, but it was a very special gift for me.

I heard a radio program last week where the speaker mentioned that she had sold her wedding rings and purchased bunk beds for her kids. It got me to thinking that I still have all my wedding rings tucked away. I don't know why, I just haven't done anything with them.

My best friend took hers and had the diamond turned into a belly button ring. She used the setting and had a new stone put in it.

........ hey Pruned!

I've been divorced twice.... the first set of rings were pawned.

The second time... he gave me a beautiful engagement diamond... but our wedding rings ended up being silver bands....

I've had people give me diamond rings & earrings since then... none of those relationships worked out, either... They are all in a little ziploc bag for now. I have no intention of wearing any of them again....

I think I will take the diamonds and have rings made for each of my girls....

My last divorce was 5 years ago.... it was the end of a terrible time in my life...
