Does she have to sing too? In that case, Nancy Wilson would be out.

So that means Cheryl Crow doesn't play guitar, she's gay, or you dislike her (or some combination of the three)? Gotta love the English language.

Charo is pretty good when she stops flipping her hair all the time. There's some other female classical Spanish guitarist who is slipping my mind right now.

Question: Can they be bass players? Naomi Yang from Galaxie 500 played a mean bass.

The Pretenders Chrissie Hynde fits that bill too.

Nancy Wilson of Heart IMNSHO is the absolute best. All bow unto her.[;)]

"Nancy is the lead vocalist on the hits "These Dreams", "Stranded", "There's The Girl" and "Will You Be There (In The Morning)" and frequently performs background vocals. In 1999, Nancy Wilson released "Live at McCabe's Guitar Shop," her only solo live album to date." Link

She's got a nice set of pipes Lemon! [;)]

Laugh if you must but if Charo did a serious Spanish/flamenco style performance without the cuchi, cuchi (spanish spelling since she says it with an accent[;)]) she would kick butt. But then again that's a very big if.
Um - Charo is from Brazil so that would be Portugese, not Spanish.....

DaveW -> RE: Girls With Guitars (5/14/2008 6:48:56 AM)

Has anyone heard any of the all-female cover bands touring these days? I have heard a bit of Lez Zepplin and really liked them. I have not yet heard AC D- She or Mistress of Reality (Black Sabbath's 3rd album was Masters of Reality) Cheap Chick or a host of others I have recently became aware of.

I was unaware! Thanks for the correction! I'm not familiar with the Heart catalogue outside of the "hits".

She's talented and quite attractive as well!

PHmosh1 -> RE: Girls With Guitars (5/14/2008 7:50:50 AM)

I hesitate to even mention her, but Amy Grant plays guitar. She used to be good waaaaaayyyyyy back in the day. I haven't been able to stomach any of the stuff she's put out from the 90s and on. Baby, Baby really turned me off![:'(]

Ahahahahahahahaha... [:D]
She's OUT of my list. I don't like her.

I love Chrissie Hynde!!! I totally forgot about her. (And that reminds me that I wanted to download some Concrete Blonde. I always associate the two.)

I fully support female bass players, but they're probably not for this list. (I guess D'arcy isn't with Smashing Pumpkins anymore, is she?)

And I am familiar with Lez Zeppelin, but not the others Dave mentioned.

miasma -> RE: Girls With Guitars (5/14/2008 9:25:33 AM)

Courtney Love

D'arcy came back for this last reunion thing, I'm pretty sure.

She was born in Murcia, SPAIN. Except for may performing in Brazil there is no mention in her biographies of ever having lived there.

"She studied classical and flamenco guitar while residing in Murcia, and can claim Andrés Segovia as her guitar teacher (Segovia taught general music classes as community service in schools around Murcia). She took guitar lessons from him and other teachers from the age of nine on. As a result of her training and skill she has been named "Best Flamenco Guitarist" in Guitar Player Magazine's readers' poll twice. One of Charo's regrets is that because of her flamboyant stage presence, she has been overlooked as a serious guitar player." Bio Link

Looks like she agreed with me on her "flamboyant stage presence".

I can totally rock out to "Celebrity Skin." [;)]

miasma -> RE: Girls With Guitars (5/14/2008 10:19:49 AM)

I stopped with Live Through This.

stellaluna -> RE: Girls With Guitars (5/14/2008 10:24:05 AM)

That was a good one, but I really liked Celebrity Skin. It's crunchy.

Oops! My bad! They definitely had their own unique sound! I used to enjoy the bass line on "Middle of the Road" it was fun to play! Even my punk friends could appreciate the Pretenders!

I stand corrected. My info was from seeing her on late night television and being introduced as the bombshell from Brazil.

I always knew she was good on guitar. I am impressed with her studying under Segovia. He IMO is the most influential guitarist of any genre ever. He singlehandedly raised the guitar from a lowly "folk instrument" to a respected classical instrument in all of western culture.

Well being that I called Chrissie Hynde a bass player I promise I won't judge you too harshly. [;)]

BTW, if those are your kids in your avatar they sure are darn cute!!
