Congratulations to all.....but only two Gold City member nominations? I mean, let's get real here!!! They have the cream of the crop on stage and only two nominations? Ugghhhhhh!!!

LittleInspiration -> RE: 2008 SN Fan Awards Top 5 nominees (5/12/2008 10:08:46 PM)

Glad to see all the Inspirations nominated, as they well deserve to be. [:)]
But what about the Freemans? Can anyone tell me why they don't make it into the top 5? They have talent, charisma, longevity... I'd really like to see them win some year.

HigherNote4U -> RE: 2008 SN Fan Awards Top 5 nominees (5/12/2008 10:13:19 PM)

Well, I said 2 nominations but saw Jonathan Wilburns on there after the fact. Does that even count seeing as how he isn't singing any longer? How does that work?

tenorsister -> RE: 2008 SN Fan Awards Top 5 nominees (5/12/2008 10:20:39 PM)

I am not surprised with the results for the top 5 and I have very specific opinions about the fan awards and have had for years. So I will not share these opinions as there are those who may think I speak for other reasons but know that I have ALWAYS felt this way about the awards. To all the nominees I say good luck and best wishes.[;)]
And to all of you who wonder why your favorites never seem to make the top five.......good question![8|]

Mrmusicfan -> RE: 2008 SN Fan Awards Top 5 nominees (5/12/2008 10:46:05 PM)

Pretty much all of my nominees made it...of course I'm glad!!! It's really great to see the Collingsworth Family make it to the Top 5 for Mixed Group. It's going to be interesting to see who all wins this year...

Thanks sp4-2 for your kind and beautiful words!!!!!! i hope it's not too much longer til we see you again!!! it's already been too long!!! [:D] love ya!! -T

...after seeing the list, the only thing that shocked me was that "True To The Call" wasn't in the favorite album category...

and a BIG congrats goes out to my good friends, the Collingsworth Family, on the mixed group of the year nomination!!!

Jeff_from_Kentucky -> RE: 2008 SN Fan Awards Top 5 nominees (5/13/2008 1:21:38 AM)

I'm surprised that Scott Howard and Frank Seamans from L5 didn't make the top five, and that L5 didn't make the top five for artist of the year.

At least Scott Fowler, Glenn Dustin, and Tim Parton made it, and L5 made it for favorite male quartet, favorite album, and favorite song. I guess 6 out of 9 is pretty good.

I agree. I believe it's their first top 5 group nomination, so it's particularly nice.

I am also particularly excited by the Perrys' top 5 album nomination for Look No Further. I think it's the best project they've released (and with how much I loved This is the Day, Come Thirsty, and Remembering the Happy Goodmans, that's saying a lot.)

Seaton -> RE: 2008 SN Fan Awards Top 5 nominees (5/13/2008 7:14:37 AM)

A few things I found interesting in this year's list.

*The lack of representation from both Triumphant Qt and Kingdom Heirs compared to prior years.

*Dove Brothers being shut out again after having a monster year.

*He is one of the best lead singers of all time, but I am even puzzled that Jonathan Wilburn was eligible to make it to the final five. So is that setting precedent that if you leave a group in the year the award is given out you can still win.

It's amazing how Signature Sound is in the final five in several catagories now that they are going to be at NQC. Last year don't remember them being in any of the final five. A couple of years or so ago they won so many and was not at NQC to accept.

I think their stylistic changes are being very well received by radio, critics, and industry observers, but aren't received quite as well by the fans of their original traditional sound.

(Just my personal opinion.)

I think we will have to agree to disagree on that.[;)] I can't believe a Southern Gospel traditionalist would have a problem with the current sound/style of the Dove Brothers. If they did, they would have a problem with 80% of the quartets on the road today.

DJSfromCleveland -> RE: 2008 SN Fan Awards Top 5 nominees (5/13/2008 8:39:04 AM)

I can't believe the Kingsmen have been shut out this year.[&o]

youngartist -> RE: 2008 SN Fan Awards Top 5 nominees (5/13/2008 8:53:02 AM)

I was very disappointed to see the snub of my favorites BF&A, Kingdom Heirs, TQ, and Dove Brothers. Dove Brothers were shut out, Brian Free was the only one of the 4 parts nominated, NONE of the Kingdom Heirs were nominated for the 4 parts (although Arthur was nominated for Male), and Eric Bennett was the only one of the 4 parts nominated from Triumphant (and no Scott Inman!). The groups got a few other nominations, but I was shocked that groups such as these were uncharacteristically absent...

But I was PUMPED to see Tanner & Soul'd Out make the Top 5 Horizon Group nomination!!! CONGRATS!!

I noticed that the Booth Brothers, Greater Vision, and the Inspirations appear to be about the hottest groups this year. EHSS had a strong showing as well, and the Perrys and L5 fared decently.

youngartist -> RE: 2008 SN Fan Awards Top 5 nominees (5/13/2008 8:54:29 AM)

Also, I think it's amazing that since EHSS and GVB decided to come this year (but no promises on the Fan Awards show...) they're nominated again - go figure.

I respectively disagree because the Kingdom Heirs were almost shut out as well and "True To The Call" didn't even make the Top 5 Album of the Year list even though it was inarguably one of the most solid SG projects of 2007. [;)]

The Fan Awards leave me scratching my head this year. As noted above, the red-hot Triumphant didn't even make several usual categories and they haven't changed stylistically...

Dinana -> RE: 2008 SN Fan Awards Top 5 nominees (5/13/2008 9:00:13 AM)

I was somewhat disappointed in the finalists for many of the categories. I want all of MY favorites to win and several of mine didn't make the final five. But my congratulations go to all of the artists!
