Which kind of grill is suited to your needs? I have a gas one. I think that with the gas it's easy just turning it on and the heat is even and consistent. A propane tank can provide fuel for 16 to 20 hours.

We currently use a charcol grill - BUT we have a natural gas hook up off our back porch that we could hook a specially made gas grill to. Well we haven't had the money for that sort of grill since we moved into the house so we continue to use the charcol one. We also have a fire pit that we use to roast hotdogs on occassion and definitely for s'mores all summer long! Just can't do a proper roasted marshmallow on a grill of either sort!

Blessings,

Garsy

We prefer gas, although we don't currently have a grill. I like the flavor of charcoal better, but I like the ease of gas grills.

Gas- I don't have time to wait all day for the charcoals to turn to ash and have had loads of lighter fluid tasting meat off a charcoal grill. I know those things could be worked out to use charcoal, but I'm not interested in trying when gas is so simple, works so well, and lasts so long. A bag of charcoals wouldn't last near as long as a tank of gas does.

My preference would be a gas grill.

Right now, I'm renting, and they have a charcoal grill . . . the kind that you find in campsites and such with everything being heavy cast iron and a cast iron rod going into the ground.

Whenever I see it, I always feel like I'm on vacation. heehee (and I see it everyday).

We have a gas connection to the patio but we don't use it. We like the taste and smell of charcoal and m'love likes to smoke meat on the grill. Clean up is a bit of a mess but it is so worth it. We have a great grill for a good price from Sam's club and what a differance it makes! When we sell our house, the charcoal grill is coming with us... thing weights alot! It will take a strong back to move it.

One thing I do with my gas grill is use wood chips to smoke flavor into the meat. It really changes the taste.

We have a gas grill. I'm too busy to wait for charcoal to get ready, and with the gas grill I can grill steaks for my wife and me on Valentines Day when it's snowing. My twin brother swears by his charcoal grill, but we could start our grills at the same time and we could finish eating before he gets his burgers off the grill.

SweetLittleErin -> RE: Charcoal vs. Gas (5/14/2008 3:29:51 PM)

I'm saying gas. Charcoal has a good flavor but when we had our charcoal grill, grilling was an event. I got a gas grill a few weeks ago for my birthday and love it. We can grill any day of the week, just turn it on, throw on the food and thats it. No dragging out charcoal, and fluid and lighting it, then waiting. Then usually its just good and hot when the food is done so I feel wasteful letting the good coals just die down.

We have both gas and charcoal. Charcoal grills are such a mess to clean. Some one just gave me our gas grill. We used it once so far with aluminum foil on the grate. The Hot dogs came out very good.

If I may ask, does anyone use lava rocks with their gas grills? I am thinking on getting some if I can find out the purpose for them? I really don't know what they are supposed to do in the grill.

I have a gas/charcoal grill. I love the flavor of charcoal but gas is much faster and easier to deal with.

Gas grill ... better on the environment and faster.

danas_mom -> RE: Charcoal vs. Gas (5/19/2008 2:30:37 PM)

Charcoal all the way, baby!

bluestone -> RE: Charcoal vs. Gas (5/19/2008 2:35:00 PM)

Charcoal!
If I wanted to cook with gas, I would stay inside where it is air conditioned.[;)]
