As with earthly life, the only reason we discuss when life begins is because we want to know when it is "OK" to stop it. If we take life, earthly or eternal, as a given, then we can focus on making it worth living.

What are made up of? Are we the physical body that we are so use to seeing in the mirror or are we the spiritual being that came from God. If you agree that we only live in the physical tent and that our actual being is the spirit from God then I again ask the question…have we ever been without eternal life?

"We" are spirit, soul and body. A trichotomy.

We all recognize the body.

The soul is also a trinity of sorts; the mind, the emotions and the will. This we share with the animal kingdom. Man is an animal, but man is not only an animal.

We are not only an animal because man also has a human spirit. This is what separates us from the animal kingdom.

The soul and the human spirit is that part of us, the immaterial part, that continues on after physical death. The unregenerate survive physical death, but only the regenerate will experience life, for eternal life is Divine life.

We receive eternal life when we receive the One who has eternal life...Jesus Christ. In Him we have eternal life.

Peace

quote:

ORIGINAL: Chucky1146

Does eternal life begin the moment we accept Jesus as Lord, or is it what we strive for when we die?

Jesus said we must take a choice between the Narrow road, and the Broad road.

Ananias was told to tell Paul all the things he must suffer for the Kingdom of God and Paul said....

1Cr 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

Hbr 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Is not that prize Eternal Life? Do we not accept Jesus as lord, and are Born Again, then endure, suffer, continue, in Jesus till we receive the High Gift of His Calling, and the prize at death of Eternal Life? Death is when we rest from our trials and tribulations here on earth, and go to Heaven which is the PRIZE that Jesus was talking about. Eternal Life IN Him IN Heaven at death.
Eternal Life is the Prize, or Reward that we receive for faithfully following, believing in, witnessing for, being a faithful servent of, loving, worshipping, adoring, and generaly living for Jesus Christ.

I do not believe we have Eternal Life when we are saved. I believe if we endure till the end, and continue to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son Of God we will win the prize that is set before us. The High Calling, and that prize is Eternal Life.

Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. (1Cor 9)

Did you read all of chap 9? Paul is talking about how he preaches and how he disciplines himself so he won't be disqualified from something he's preaching about. A catholic priest for example couldn't really stand and preach about child molestation because they've been disqualified or lost their credibility. He certainly isn't talking about loosing his salvation.

The moment you're born of the Spirit you have been saved, you, meaning your spirit of which we are. Scripture is crystal clear on once you have been saved it's a done deal, we have Gods Holy Spirit as our guarantee. You don't win salvation it's a free gift that you get once you become a child of God.

peace
