ORIGINAL: hogfan i've debated on whether or not i should post again in this thread, but then i would feel really dumb if i just sit and watched it go by without chiming in lol so here goes...just to clarify, i was a member on the boards here waaay before i "went fulltime" in SG...i joined back when i was in college because i was a huge fan of the industry (which i STILL am) lol ...so i think it would be pretty hypocritical to quit posting and continuing friendships here just because i "sing SG for a living"...i love seeing "board members" at our concerts because its not often we get to sing to familar faces! it's ALWAYS awesome to have someone in the crowd who actually loves and cares about you!! but having said all that, i'm active in this particular thread because yes, it involves our group, and because we consider the crist family and tribute to be our very good friends!! and as for trying to get votes, this thread is barely a fraction of all the votes that singingnews will get from the magazine subscribers...and if i remember right, the old paths ran away with the online poll here last time and sadly they didn't make the top 5 even though they definitly deserved it... we are not on a label, we do 90% of our own bookings, and we dont throw a lot of money away on radio...that's just not how we are...and right now that's the way we like it lol! God is using us how He wants to use us and we're doing our best to be willing vessells for Him!! the last 2 weekends we were out on the road, TWELVE people accepted Christ as their personal savior during the invitations at our concerts! Praise the Lord!! i promise you, the groups in this category care more about winning the lost than winning people's votes...i can say that because i know them and i know their hearts! as the old song says, "ain't that what it's all about?!" haha wow i don't think i've ever had a post that long!! i think it's a new personal record lol And that's the very reason I voted for Soul'd Out in this poll. Me too. Great post, Tanner.

I would never discredit what you are doing for the Lord brother tanner. I do believe that Old Paths should have had a lock on the top 5 nomination but like you said they did not. I know that Old Paths are very ministry minded as well which is why I voted for them. I have seen them twice in north carolina and both times there were several several people saved. Not only that but they are phenomenal singers! The bass singer is probably one of the most under credited bass singer in the industry and their lead singer is unreal! I have only seen you one time in concert with Sould Out and like I said...it might have been an off nite or issues with the sound. I love quartet music and quartet style singing and the fact that you as well as Old Paths are very young is awesome! I would love to see you two in concert sometime. Im just simply stating my opinion which isn't worth much but it is still my opinion. Just like you guys have opinions of groups you like and don't like. Thank you though for posting and I WILL be seeing you at quartet convention this year seeing as i have big part in the convention.. maybe we can get an interview

Excuse me for butting in here. This is my first post ever, but I felt compelled to say that it's really hard to tell (sometimes) from the written word what the writer's intent was. I thought that Perryfan was "picking at" Tanner... I, too sing in a SG group that doesn't have a label; we are not trying to hit the "big time" in the industry, but rather with the Lord in ministry. The souls reached and taken for the kingdom is the bottom line. We're thankful for our weekday jobs that allow us to minister on weekends to the smaller churches and events that can't afford the "big names" but want quality, spirit-filled music. I was thinking of the scriptures about laying up treasure in heaven, and of the last being first, etc. Awards and recognition are nice, but not the most important thing.

hey cinwood....thanks for the post. I most certainly was not "picking" at tanner. I apologize if I came across that way. I agree...its not about awards approval or accolades...or at least it shouldn't be but...these awards and this kind of recognition opens doors and new areas to minister in for these full time groups. In knowing these groups listed here personally, other than brother tanner and sould out because I have only met them briefly, I would have to say that these groups tuly love the Lord and want to win for ministry gain. I DO believe that sould out does have a heart for ministry and in no way meant to demean or discredit their reputation. Thank you again for bringing this to my attention. It is hard to display what you are really trying to say in typed words With that being said...let me formally apologize to Tanner for coming across this way

I met you in Indiana while I was singing with another group. We were at some kind of gymnasium or high school. The Glory did roll that night brotha! Thanks again for the reply! Do you know any of the guys from Old Paths? They say nothing but nice things about you guys...I was just wondering if you were friends. I mentioned last time they were up my way that i had just seen you guys at Fan-fair and to be honest I told them that I didn't care too much for you guys that night and I think it was their bass singer that said " really? hmm..those guys are great guys and have a wonderful heart for ministry...we love em!" I asked him if he knew you and he said you guys met when you were with Young Harmony cause he lives in Chatanooga TN. I had no idea you sang for them!

yeah i was with YH for almost a year...i honestly hated to leave them cause i loved every minute of my time with them! they truly are some of the best people anywhere! i had always wanted to sing in a quartet so i had to jump ship so to speak lol...but seriously, i wouldn't trade my time with YH for anything in the world!! when you saw SOQT at fanfair, they were in the dreaded transition period between the former baritone and me and i believe there was a fill in singer who was less than subpar lol but anyways, i've met some of the old paths on various occasions and they were very nice and seem to be great guys! and they're great singers too! so what group do you sing with? i'm tryin to remember a high school in indy, but i'm drawin a blank lol

I voted for Soul'd Out Quartet...I guess I do have reason to be a little partial... I have been Tanner's #1 fan all of his life, but the other guys in the group won my heart last year when I got to spend some time getting to know them. The messages in the songs that Matt writes really touch my heart... and I love their sound.. (looking forward to meeting Dusty) I have my tickets for Monday Night NQC and booked my Singing at Sea cruise for next Feb.. GO SOUL'D OUT

I have to say I voted for tribute. i've been friends with Josh and Gary since they began with the Wilburns, but all the groups are really good and let me just say this, I sang on the varity show at the Jubilee at Sea this past feb. and Sold out was really nice to me. The lead singer gave me some great advice and info about recording. They were super nice.

I voted for the Crist Family. the only other one have heard sing is Aaron & Amanda. have heard Crabb Revival but when they were the Crabb Family. I voted for the Crist Family because they had in my opinion one of the best if not the best cd I heard last year, they can do so many vocal combo's is like a lot of groups in one

I live in Ohio and I have never heard Sould'Out on the radio once. It's kinda strange, since the group is based in Ohio. I'm sure they are a good group but I know in Ohio they are not getting much air-time. So DJ'S play them so I can have a opinion!!! Ok my husband and I were driving down the road yesterday trying to not get pulled over by the 7 state troopers we saw running radar on a 1/2 hour trip! Yep 7!! Memorial weekend, and lack of state funds I guess! :) Anyways heard a Quartet on the radio and when the song was done, the DJ said "That was Sould'Out Quartet" I finally heard them on our station so I was so excited I cant remember the song..:( But I know it was pretty good, and had a nice up-beat sound! Have a beautiful Holiday Weekend! Hug and thank a soldier!

Hey guys! My name is Brandon Barry and I sing bass for The Old Paths. I heard about this blog and thought I would post a thought from a member of The Old Paths..lol. We are very excited about what the Lord is doing in our ministry. We were very honored to be nominated as well for the Top 10 Horizon group category and thank you guys as well as all our fans who nominated us. You will never know how much that means to us and again we thank you from the bottom of our hearts! We, like Sould Out, do not do alot of radio promotion or spend money in that area of our ministry. I actually commend Sould Out for putting there money in other parts of their ministry. Especially with gas prices the way they are!!!LOL! I have met the guys and they have always been nothing but nice to me and the group. These guys, I believe, have a huge heart for ministry and I appreciate their desire to see people saved. I feel like we have the same goal and that is to see people saved first and foremost. Gospel Music should be more than four part harmony, fancy buses, and flashy suits...it SHOULD be about the gospel of Jesus Christ and ministering to the lost, broken hearted, and the hurting. That is why the GOSPEL comes before the MUSIC. I personnaly want to thank you guys for being real and true to the call...God Bless and Congratulations!

I voted for Soul'd out for one reason. I believe they sing for the right reason. I met these guys and all groups say "we dont care about the awards" buy few really mean it. These guys have good hearts. I personally heard one of the other nominees discussing their "strategy" to win the award and other awards next year. They even discussed how their adds in the singing news should read to help get more votes. It was sad. I know that politics is a part of everything but is that what groups sing for? Its easy to say that you are in it for the ministry but actions speak louder than words. Running an add to promote concerts makes sense. Running one to campaign for votes doesn't. Coulldnt they spend that money to further the Kingdom. I have watched soul'd out on and off stage. They are the real deal. They are not "putting on" to build their fan base as I heard it put by the other group. We need more groups like Soul'd out. Go get em guys.
