Well here is the deal with me atleast if offends my AA, brothers and sisters then it is wrong. I would think if this bar owner put a regular monkey, or ape it might have more racial overtones. CG is so cute, but like I said if anything causes offense do not do it. In truth, I would not wear it anyway, thinking about it. I am not going to do anything to hurt anyone, if possible, or with intent. I am not your T-Shirt type woman, anyway in public, for the most part. Just on rare occasion I wear T-shirts., I dress in lady like clothes, nice shirts. I am well dressed, because I am a foo foo woman. I for sure would not wear one making a political statement. Sorry not me, and what WWJD?

I didn't grow up in the South, but I did grow up in South Sacramento( a very, very diverse area) and I heard more than once white and black kids(and even adults) making references to black and apes… John Just what I've said all along, only Yankees and liberals see a link between monkeys and blacks.

I don't know how many times I have to repeat this, but I was born and raised in the Deep South by Southerners and never have I heard anyone in my 56 years use apes/monkeys/babbons or any other primates to describe blacks. The only two animals I've ever heard used in a derogarory way against blacks were coons (which aren't apes or monkeys) and bunnies. Until I was about 6, I called my mother's youngest brother, "Monkey's Uncle." That made, well, ME the monkey.

Racist artifacts is one of the biggest growing collectors items. I have alot of it. The Tshirt will probaly become a "item"

I lived through part of the era in the South and through the transition away from it. The T-shirt is from 2008 and I've seen nothing like it before this thread.

Jimbo, the Tshirt is just a continuation of what has been going on 100's of years. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8410111/ http://www.ferris.edu/jimcrow/mammies/more/mammy01.htm I know you know who Mammy is. Right?

The T-shirt and the grotesque caricatures on the stamps are not the same thing, IMO. Those stamps are obviously offensive - like the original Amos & Andy shows of the 20s-50s. I just do not make any connection between blacks and non-human primates.

I know you know who Mammy is. Right? You added that after I posted. Sure, I'm very familiar with the the Mammy stereotype. Even though she's another caricature, she's not a monkey or ape.

He is a white guy who is a Christian, also was involved with NBA? as Chaplain. Joel Freeman. http://www.freemaninstitute.com/RTGhistory.htm ""See for yourself. The photos you are about to view in a few moments are not so much "Afro Centric" as they are "Truth Centric". http://www.preserveala.org/gaineswood.aspx?sm=g_i My families museum, one of 12. This tshirt is racist. sign.....They'll probaly sell like hotcakes, probaly on ebay already. As a former collector of racist memobilia, I almost want one! I used to think I could buy it all off the streets, did'nt see much in MN. Then I researched the stuff. Too much I could never afford it. Bill Cosby, Oprah, Whoopi Goldberg, Spike Lee, all are collectors of racist memobilia, they havent been able to buy it all. It keeps getting made.

I said that I am very familiar with the Mammy stereotype, I don't need a history lesson. I was, as I've said, raised in the South by southerners... I even saw the movie. My question is: do you understand what caricatures are? Mammy and the other caricatures are not covered in hair, hanging from trees, eating bananas, etc. They are portrayed - racially offensive, for sure - with exaggerated features, not as animals.
