Discuss lawnmowers, mowing the grass, how the price of fuel will effect how often you cut, and the prices of having the lawn cut by others. I have had a couple of lawnmowers stolen, so I now pay a guy to cut it. The price has gone up over last year due to fuel.

My mother comes and mows my lawn about once a week. I have a push gas mower. She likes to mow lawns: it's good exercise and she likes the sense of accomplishment.

I used to use a motorized push mower. My wife has been after me to get a riding lawn mower for years. Finally this year (after a heart-attack) I broke down and purchased a riding lawn mower.

Actually I could have answered with several of those options. I cut it sometimes, other times my hubby or eldest child will do at least some of it. It's been raining so much here in Indiana that We've been mowing weekly - week and a half at the most. We used to have a kid from town here mow ours when we didn't have a mower but now that we have our own I'd rather do it myself. I can see lots of people NOT mowing unless absolutely needed this summer if fuel prices get much higher. In fact - I think I'll go out and start the mower and get a start on the lawn before my eldest gets home from school - then he can finish it for me! Blessings, Garsy

The old fashioned push mowers without motors seem to be coming back...a guy down the road uses one. sure is quiet, just the whirling noise of blade hitting grass. I remember my Dad using one when I was a small child...and him sitting on the back steps sharpening the blades a lot. I suppose they are made these days in a way that don't need a lot of sharpening.

I have a sneezefest when I'm moving the grass. But I do mow it sometimes. My 13 year old and hubby does it most of the time and if I have to do it, I have to someone pull the lever starter for me. I have short arms that I'm not pulling it hard or high enough that most of the time, the mower don't start-- it goes the same with our snow blower.

I mow my own grass, plus my Aunt's, two of my sisiter's, two neighbors, and I also mow the cemetery where my Mama and daddy are buried. Altogether, I mow about 15 acres...I mow my own 5 acres once a week, and the others every two weeks or so. I use a weedeater to do this job...not :). I have a 40 horsepower New Holland tractor with a 72 inch feet finishing mower (I use that in the pecan orchards), a 24 HP 48 inch cut Husqvarna, and a 42 inch cut John Deere, both riding mowers. I do use a weedeater in the cemetery to mow spots I can't get to with the John Deere. I'm like Forrest Gump...I like to mow! Although here in deep south Georgia, it's getting kinda dry which cuts back my mowing. Pray for rain. Gas (and diesel fuel..I just paid $3.73 per gallon for Farm diesel) prices have increased dramtically...however, the grass still needs cutting. My neighbor just bought a bunch of goats to munch under his pecan trees so he wouldn't have to mow... walkin2e

I have some neighbors down the road that have goats they "rent out" to people for lawn devouring.

My husband and I switch off using a non-gas reel mower. It's easy and quiet. Sometimes my oldest son (9) will do some. A few times a year my husband will pull the gas mower out and do it. Usually when the grass is at its fastest growing rate or he just feels like it.

I love to mow. My favorite all-time job was when I worked at a golf course as a teenager. I mowed and mowed and mowed. I also mowed several yards in the neighborhood. I never liked riding mowers. Having said that, I broke my ankle and injured my back mowing a few years ago, and now I hire someone to do it.

Can you change to poll to allow multiple votes? Right now, we have a gas push mower. My 8 year old does some, and my husband does some. I wanted to get a reel mower, but don't think it's going to happen this year. Maybe next... And because of gas prices, we'll not be mowing ours every week. Maybe every other week.

I have 8.5 acres. It is generally maintained by the horses (which means I can go around 4-6 weeks between mowing instead of 2-3 weeks). Mostly I mow with the tractor; my son (age 7) has a very simple riding lawnmower and I let him drive it around when I use the tractor. He actually does some good. The "garden" part of the yard where the horses are not allowed is mowed with a wheeled string mower (which I recently discovered is strong enough to strip the siding off the house as well as cut grass)--this usually needs attention every 2-4 weeks. I'm not sure what I could do different unless I figured out a way to size the (1930's era) harnesses down to fit the horses and found an antique mower. A non-powered mower is simply not practical around here.

Use a riding, walk behind, and string trimmer to get the different areas of our lawn and garden areas. Once a week, and I actually enjoy doing yard work.

I use a walk-behind push mower and a string trimmer to do mine. Occasionally my children will help. I enjoy the yard work, but I really don't have time to keep up with it like I should with all the other things I have to do. It takes about 8-10 hours to mow and weedeat everything that needs to be done, so I don't usually get everything done every week.

Mowing the lawn... Just one of those things that needs to be done - whether you really want to or not. Sometimes life gets busy and I just can't get to it when I originally planned to. I bought a power drive mower a couple of years ago at the prompting of my wife. She will mow it when I can't. Both of us love to work in the yard. We have been farting around with planting flowering bushes, trees, prennials for the last 10 years. I have literally rearranged the front and back yoard several times over the last few years. Tough work sometimes, especially when your digging up an established 8 ft tree with just a fork and shovel. Then at my age (50) - ugh! I have a Tractor but I rarely use it for anything except giving the grandkids a ride.

ORIGINAL: Kat_D A wonderful man named Trinidad mows my yards once every two weeks! He also trims, weeds and fertilizes. I love him! Well, I don't have Trinidad, but I do have someone who does the exact same thing. weird Anyways, I love to tell people that we have a "gardener." We may drive 1995 cars and are still renting, but dadgummit, we got us a gardener!

I would love to mow the lawn but I am unable to start the mower. It is a pull start and I cannot "snap" it hard enough. I stay home and it would be one more thing I could do so my hard working husband doesn't have to do it.
