Hello all, I'm new to this site and been away from Christian music for some time now - BUT I'M BACK!! And, sadly, i know nothing......... Sooooooo, in the 80's i dug everything from Julie Miller and Geoff Moore to Angelica and Rage of Angels (found my old cassettes from that time). My Whiteheart tape - Freedom - is one of my faves and anything by Margaret Becker. Amazing that they still play like new!!! What's available in the classic/hard rock genre today? I still have Petra<yawn> on vinyl as well as Rez - Silence Screams - Bash-n-the Code were all right. I can't wait to see what you all recommend!!!

From current artists? Not much. You might like Jars of Clay, Caedmon's Call, Chris Tomlin, Paul Baloche, or Third Day. That's about all I can think of. Phil Keaggy and Randy Stonehill are still cranking out music. Randy hasn't changed much, Phil is mostly instrumental these days. Stryper released a new cd a couple of years ago.

Dunno if you were ever a Saint fan, slotter, but they've also been making new music lately. (I saw Rage of Angels so I assume you're a metalhead to some extent...) Apparently WhiteHeart did a reunion show a year or so ago (check YouTube) but they're not going to record anything new as far as I know. FREEDOM remains my favorite of theirs as well. Margaret Becker still records as an indie...do a search and you can find her. Keaggy and Stonehill are working on an album together that I've seen mentions of as resembling SUNDAY'S CHILD (which is my favorite Keaggy album so that would be a good thing). Julie Miller is still recording but for the mainstream market so though she still does tunes reflecting her faith don't expect lots of "God words" all over them anymore. I think Geoff Moore is retired now? Haven't seen anything from him in a long time... Rez is doing a reunion set at Cornerstone and they have a BOX SET coming out. Speaking of box sets...why aren't there very many really GOOD Christian rock box sets? Obviously there should be a FANTASTIC 3-4 Petra set covering their entire career, Andrae Crouch, Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant, WhiteHeart, all these are BEGGING for a well-done anthology mixing hits, artistic peak album cuts and rarities.

No, however I thought that the OP was looking for current artists instead. The OP said that he liked Julie Miller, Natalie Grant is not all that much different, albiet contemporary.

Thank you all for the replies so far. I am checking out some of the suggested material - however - I have found SKILLET!!! Looks like a new fave band........am planning to see for myself as they are playing a lot here in OHIO!! They are also playing Cornerstone.......considering going to that this year also. Picked up a couple cassettes for a buck each yesterday - Audio Adrenaline - they're different. Christ by R. Stonehill - haven't listened to yet and Geoff Moore (solo) - I like him but this one is a little slow....... Another question - what is INDIE? Margaret Becker has gone indie and i don't know what that is. I loved her as a rocker but..................

I was gonna suggest Skillet but you already found them so :D Skillet is honestly the only Christian band I really like aside from a few hard metal Christian bands... :D They're the only CCM band I like I should say. Well, I do like Flyleaf but I never really considered them CCM.

As you can see with Margaret Becker, it doesn't mean they aren't still as good. I think several of the artists from the '80s that wanted to keep singing ended up going independent. I know Morgan Cryar did.

That cd (Third Day's Wherever You Are) is full of great songs. I can honestly say you won't be wasting your money if you pick it up. And if you like that one, their two worship albums, Offerings and Offerings II, would also be good buys.
