ORIGINAL: JordanW It says all the sound drivers are installed. Ok, that eliminates that. Click Start | Settings | Control Panel Once you've got the control panel window open, make sure you're in "Classic View" not "Category View." (Assuming you're in XP, there's a link in the upper left corner to toggle between them) From there, open "Sounds and Audio Devices." The two tabs you want to look at are the Volume tab and the Audio tab. Under the Audio tab, make sure that the default Sound Playback device is set to whatever your sound card is. In the Volume tab, make sure that the volume is up and you don't have any option with the word "Mute" checked. -Dan. When I look at those two tabs, it won't allow me to click anything. Assuming none of your hardware got cooked (I wouldn't think it would), your drivers are probably corrupted or not installed properly. Check gateway.com for the right drivers. -Dan.

That doesn't really help me if I don't know where to find this stuff on their site. Also read my other post please.

I know you said that the drivers were all installed properly, and the System Properties may indeed give that impression. However, despite appearances, that may not be the case. I've got 2 soundcards in my computer (3, actually, if you count the onboard sound), so I've continually got to mess with drivers to get things to work when I want them to. A few weeks ago, I found myself in a similar situation - the Sounds & Audio Devices window wouldn't let me click anything in the tabs (despite me actually getting sound from one of them). I had to reinstall the drivers. As to how to find stuff on Gateway.com: Go to gateway.com, click the "Support" link at the top, then the "Drivers & Downloads" tab. Then enter your serial #. If you can't find the serial #, it gives you instructions on how to find it. I'd guess there's a sticker somewhere on the back of the machine. -Dan.

I like the help that Iluvatar is giving you. I hope that will gradually move towards the solution. In the meantime, check out the speakers themselves, on a different PC or some kind of sound system. Unplug the speakers from the soundcard of your PC (remembering which plug it was plugged into). Plug them into the right plug of a sound system or a different PC, and connect them to power. Try them out for sound. Hopefully, they will work just fine. That would eliminate another source of the problem. When you reconnect the speakers to your PC, be sure you get the right plug, and be sure you seat it correctly. Push it in firmly, but not hard enough to break anything.
