The length of other people's posts don't affect me one way or the other. I only have this rule about myself. quote:
ORIGINAL: WhiteRoseBlessings When I'm by myself and working on projects, I tend to say, "OK" a lot . . . and it annoys me and I tell myself to quit doing that - literally, I say out loud, "Quit doing that!" -or- "Stop it!" Then a few seconds later, I will start saying "OK" again. It's as if I'm intentionally trying to aggravate myself. When I'm by myself and do something stupid, or when I'm with other people for that matter, I talk to myself and, either laugh at my stupidity, or, if it's really bad, berate myself. Outloud.

ORIGINAL: Tinkerbell_ I have to have all my spices lined up in order of importance. Occasionally I'll go in spurts where I don't use a particular spice for a while and it will go to the back of the line. My spices are in alphabetical order. I did that for a while until it became annoying having to hunt for my parsley. If I get a bigger spice cabinet I'll probably revert back to it...LOL All of my stuff, no matter what it is, including my filing is in order of use rather than alphabetically. The most used to the front, least used to the back. This solved all of my "putting things away" issues. If it's easy to put away, it gets done whereas, when things were in a "logical" order it would take an act of Congress to get me to put things back because it was more of a pain to do. I do my business filing as I go because it's so easy to do now instead of quarterly like I did at one time. The spices I use regularly I bunch together for example. basil, oregeno, bay leaves garlic salt for my sauce, and ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg for spice cookies etc.

Outloud. This is skeery. I do those things also. Oh . . . and you know how when someone's aggravated with you they call you by your first and middle name? Well, when I'm aggravated with myself, I call myself "Sharon" That's how I KNOW I've really crossed the line with myself. Your filing system's not alphabetized??!! That gives me shudders. I have categories for my filing (office support, calligraphy, writings, bills, etc.) And within each category every thing is in alpha order. Even my categories are in alpha order with each other. Except for my bills. Those files are all in alpha order in a vertical rising filing stand that I keep in a chair at the end of my desk (which is actually a kitchen table in my dining room . . . but my dining room has been converted into my office, etc., etc.) Quirk: ALL pencils MUST go with the lead point facing up. I cannot stand to get my points all messed up. Quirks: All pens and markers must go point facing down (with the cap securely on the pen or marker). That way, there's always a good flow of ink available. It bothers me with my double-tipped markers because one tip is always not getting a supply of ink, so for those I place the most often used tip downward. Quirk: The only pencils I own are art pencils; and the only time I use pencils is, well, for art. Quirks: The only ink pen I like is the Pentel R.S.V.P. I have them in purple and in green. I don't like blue ink for writing. I do have some black ink pens, but those are reserved only for legal documents and state sales tax reports. Quirks: I don't like "catch-all" anythings (drawers, boxes, cubby holes, etc.). I'm very deliberate about where I put things. I also don't like "miscellaneous" file folders. .

Oooh! That reminds me of another quirk I have! (Thanks, Sharon!) I have to have a full set of pens in my purse, my desk at work and my pen cup at home. I buy the Pilot G2 and they come in black, blue, red, green, pink, purple, magenta, orange, teal, dark green and navy blue. If I lose a pen I replace the entire set of pens. I have a TON of spare pens in a bag in my dresser but a full set in each of those three places. If I'm broke I may lose a pen that is floating in the spare bag so I'll replace that pen instead of the whole set. I do the same thing with the Sharpie Click its.

I have another one. It's not my fault but it's a quirky fact. For the past 7 of 8 years, I have gotten sick within a week of thanksgiving. Usually a knock-out cold (and I rarely get sick!). I used to blame it on my brother, as that's the one time of year I see him and his family, but this year I had to work and couldn't go, and still got sick!

Those files are all in alpha order in a vertical rising filing stand that I keep in a chair at the end of my desk (which is actually a kitchen table in my dining room . . . but my dining room has been converted into my office, etc., etc.) I have categories, too, and sometimes the items within each category are alphabetized. It depends on whether I need those items equally often or not. I use very broad file labels such as "Utilities" rather than individual folders for electric, gas, etc. (Keep in mind that I'm talking about my business filing). The reason being that I have to file away far more often than I have to find something within those files. Therefore, the easier it is to file the more likely it is to get done. I'll take the risk of having to spend a few extra seconds hunting a specific thing in a broad category because the chance of me having to find something later is relatively slim. I do have a "Misc." file because I dislike wasting a folder for one piece of paper. I also have a "junk" drawer because, otherwise, I spend WAY too much time contemplating the "perfect" place for odds and ends. Seriously. Something like that could hang me up for a whole day at one time. I have perfectionist issues that could be debilitating if I let them. quote:

Very Important Quirk: I really prefer that people use my full name, please . . . Sharon-Marie (verus "Sharon"). My name is not Sharon; it really and truly is Sharon-Marie. However, if you don't want to type all those letters, then Shar-Mar will do very nicely. Thank you very much for your understanding. Quirk: I cannot stand to have a cluttered purse; I probably go through and organize my purse 3-4 times a week. Quirk: I don't like clutter anywhere; including inside my refrigerator and inside my cabinets. I also don't like cabinets, closets, filing cabinets nor my refrigerator to be crammed full; I like a lot of space everywhere. Quirk: I also like bare counters. Quirk: I'm very much a minimalist. quote:

Something like that could hang me up for a whole day at one time. I have perfectionist issues that could be debilitating if I let them. I have a blank file folder that I use for "miscellaneous" type stuff. However, the moment that I get 2 pieces of paper for the same thing, I create a new folder (with writing on it - LOL) for those papers. I can make very quick decisions about finding a home for things. Movers love me. When I had my own furniture, I would take full sheets of blank pieces of paper and write the name of each furniture item. Then, I would go through my new home and place the papers exactly where I wanted each piece of furniture. The paper position on the floor would indicate the where the center of the furniture should go. Also, if I want the furniture at a slant, I would place the paper at the same slant. I have very good spacial acuity and can pretty much tell if an item is going to fit somewhere and if it will look good there. My movers just laughed at me and said, "Yeah, ok and we'll move it around for you when you find out it doesn't fit or that you don't like it there. But the last laugh was always on me, because I had already studied the space and had figured out what I wanted.

At work, I have a very procise filing system. I have a lot of state and local forms and certificates that must be kept with purchase receipts, etc. so it has to be exact, and easy to find.

This is me....I also have a junk basket in each bathroom because the items cannot be separated into any specific catigory so they all go together. I cringe when I have to organize some thing like out arts and craft supplies because I obsess about putting items in the correct spot. Also I always have a little pile of stuff that does not fin into a catigiry so the art supply room has a misc. drawer too.

ORIGINAL: CoeurdeLeon You can tell how big of an issue I have with something by the amount I write about it or how often I keep coming back to it. As proof, I offer my "filing" posts. ROFLOL! Lioness, I think that both you and I have filing issues . . . just in the opposite directions. I would do things the way you do them if I could. It's a struggle for me to overcome the "it has to be exactly perfectly right" way I want to do things and come to grips with my time and ability to actually do things that way. This is not just a stuggle for me it is a serious issue. I used to be a stuggling perfectionist, since Hubby died I am a failing perfectionist. I cannot do something half way....I would rather not do it. I hear my Moms voice in my head saying "anything worth doing, is worth doing well." I would rather spend the time and have one room so clean that you could literally eat off of any surface. Then go through and just straighten the whole house. I beat myself up constantly over not being able to do everything the way I want to. Because I think it should be that way I also assume I should be able to make it that way, and right now I am failing miserably at it. quote:
I also like space all around including inside cupboards and closets. I dislike clutter intensely. BUT! I have an "out of sight, out of mind" quirk. So things that I need to do something about in the near future, I have to leave out or I'll forget all about them. This creates great internal turmoil. I have the out of sight out of mind syndrome as well, so I always have a "pile" of very important stuff that has to be delt with in the very near future on my counter at all times. Since becomeing a widow it has gone from being a pile to being a mound.
