Last night I began Andy Warhol's Women in Revolt, but stopped it to switch to Finding Neverland, which pleasantly surprised me. One of the best death scenes I've ever seen. I'm not a fan of Depp (lovely face does not an actor make), I find him in his recent films playing a similiar character, but I totally forgot I was watching Johnny Depp, I became so engrossed in his character. I thought they did a great job peeking inside a creative mind, blurring the line between reality and imagination. It did get a bit sappy towards the, end, and the very last scene was...anti-climatic, but, overall, I'm pleased it was so widely recognized. Great score as well. My two fave scenes were the shot of the kite's tail in the air and when Julie Christie was the first, and loudest, to clap for Tinkerbell. I then finished Women in Revolt, which was disappointing. John Waters does it so much better.

yesterday i watched woody allen's "manhattan" and "bridget jones: the edge of reason." i also recently saw "i heart huckabee's" and "around the bend." has anyone seen "around the bend" with christopher walken and michael caine? they come to my city in the movie so i was semi excited, but then the only shots they do here are of a random broken down house that may as well be anywhere. kinda bothered me.

Last night I went on a double date and saw Amytiville Horror. That was such a good movie and it was funny. Well my friends and my boyfriend and I have kind of a sick sense of humor. We just found a lot of it funny. What was funny was my friend jumping at every little thing in it. Also my boyfriend kept trying to scare me. The movie was a little jumpy but it was funny. Just like how the Grudge was funny. I'm sorry but I thought that in the grudge it was hilarious when the guy comitted suicide. Just the look on their faces.

Fever Pitch--it was pretty cute & I like both Drew Barrymore & Jimmy Fallon. The wit was unexpectedly clever in a few small moments, but was sadly not sustained throughout the movie.

I just saw "I Robot" recently. Even though the overall plot was not ever in Asimov's books, it was implied a few times. Overal I was glad that the movie respected Asimov's ideals, and I was thrilled at how they merged many of his short stories into the movie.

I also loved the little boy that played Peter, and I loved the ending where JM Barrie and Peter were on the bench and Peter asked him "Why did she have to die", and JM said "Maybe she wanted to see Neverland". There's a lot going on the world - esp. in Africa, genocides. If only a movie could make a difference. This weekend I watched Who's That Knocking at My Door? Scorcese's film school thesis, starring Harvey Keitel. Really amazing movie, I was surprised at how...arty is was, for lack of a better word. The depth of the subject, and the cinematography was really exceptional. Had all the ennui of a New Wave flick without all the, well, ennui...Harvey Keitel was great. It was a refreshing/unique perspective on an age-old stereotype - he's very Catholic and believes firmly in marrying a virgin. Falls in love with a girl who was raped and can't deal with it. There's one scene, rather odd, him with various women (showcasing the double standard), but it turns out that was shot four years later and added to it. It was very thought-provoking, I recommend it (if you can handle heady drama). I also watched Saturday Night, Sunday Morning. British flick, not bad, my Smiths movie marathon is finally over.

I watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Shrek 2 last night. My side hurt from all the laughter.

I just saw Der Untergang(Downfall), the German film nominated for this past year's foreign language Oscar. The movie is about the final days of the Third Reich and is set largely in Hitler's bunker, cutting between the events underground and out on the streets where the battle is raging. It's not an easy movie to watch, while it does not have the 30 minute onslaught at the beginning of Saving Private Ryan, it also does not have the scenes of comic relief that Saving Private Ryan had. Apparenty there has been some controversy surrounding the film, it's been criticized for "humanizing" Hitler and the Nazis, and yes it does humanize them. That's why it's so powerful, because when you see Hitler as a monster, he becomes something other than human and we can separate ourselves from him. When you see that it was a human who was behind those atrocities, it makes it all the more horrible because it's humans callously killing other humans. By labeling Hitler a monster, we can put him into a neat little box and then write it all off, but if he's a human it means that anybody is capable of becoming that evil. If you have a chance to see it, I highly recommend it. It's in German with English subtitles (which is another thing that makes it better than most war movies--no Americans pretending to be German and speaking English with a bad fake accent).

I saw "House of Flying Daggers" last night. Loved it. If you enjoyed "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Hero" it should be a must-see for you. While I liked the acting in Crouching TIger perhaps a little better, and Hero had some breathtaking cinematic moments, this one has its own charms...for one thing, a fairly straightforward linerar romance story, mixed in with intrique. SPOILER WARNING: Being an asian martial-arts epic, don't expect a "happy ending" (this is what frustrates my 15 year old about these types of movies) Also, there is some sensuality in this movie, but I appreciated the way it was handled much more then, say, "The Notebook." (Although, I'm not sure I understand how a woman who is considered so skilled in martial arts could get so easily overpowered in that kind of situation and need rescuing, twice.) I'd say for mid-teens and up, after parental review to determine if the content mentioned above was suitable for your individual child.

I watched Justice League's: Starcrossed movie. It was really good for an animated flick. It's only an hour long but was action packed.

ORIGINAL: Faun_Tumnus Watching The Sting... classic movie, deserved the Oscars it received Robert Redford=good Robert Redford and Paul Newman=very good I just bought and watched Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing it again after all these years. It is another classic movie well deserved of the oscars. I am now wanting to buy The Sting. It is amazing how well these films have lasted through the years.

Gambit, I agree with you about Sky Captain...the visuals were cool, but I lost interest in the story. This from someone who enjoys films like "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "The Mummy" so I would have been their target audience. OK...last night... Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason This was an Iffy choice for me because while I loved the concept of the first Bridget Jones movie (YES, a plump heroine in a romantic comedy!) I felt that it was unnecessarily crude to an extreme extent and that hindered my enjoyment of it. But I like all the actors involved, and so I took a chance on the second one. The verdict: no where near as crude as the first one, but also not as funny. Some good insight on romantic love and insecurity, the work that is needed to make a relationship "work", a reminder that charming cads are still ultimately, cads... Definately for grown-ups only, although I might relent with an older teen who was pretty firm in their conviction to wait for marriage, becasue there is some good insight in the film that would trigger some good discussions.

"Bridget Jones movie (YES, a plump heroine" Plump? I'd hardly call 135 lbs. "plump." Have you read the books? I recommend you do, if not. The first film was actually sort of a combination of both books (and cute). Last night I watched Orgazmo for the millionth time, because I have some friends that hadn't seen it. Obviously not for everyone, but I was reminded of how scatchingly clever those "South Park boys" are.
