I just saw Hellboy yesterday. It was better than the first one, to me. Very intricate storylines.

LaurainAL -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/14/2008 8:06:08 AM)

Music and Lyrics. It had all the elements that make a great chic movie.
1. Romance
2. Eighties Music
3. Hugh Grant

Bella -

Interesting, but some parts were hard to follow. So the ending was lost on me.

landabee -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/14/2008 2:56:52 PM)

I saw Hancock on Friday.

Wow, was I pleasantly surprised. I plan to buy it when it releases to DVD.[:)]

cinwood -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/14/2008 4:34:10 PM)

I watched Bourne Ultimatum last night. I started out lounging on my bed and ended up sitting on the edge of the chair biting my nails. I'm going to watch it again this afternoon while I'm on the treadmill...

jodavi -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/15/2008 11:25:22 PM)

College Road Trip- with Raven and Martin Lawrence. I did not think that I was going to like it but it was good. A lot of funny scenes and tender moments with Dad and daughter also. I thought the 2 funniest characters - Donny Osmond and the pig.

angie4God -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/17/2008 9:34:38 AM)

DH and I saw Hellboy 2 last night. Awesome movie! But, it figures that it was one of the few times we stayed for the end of the credits to see if there were any end of credit surprises..there wasn't any [8|]. Oh well it was fun singing along with Barry Manilow anyways [:D] [;)]

On a side note. There was some people who brought young kids [8|]. I don't think it was a movie for kids. Some disturbing parts in it. Although hey did laugh out loud at some parts Oh well [8|]

Yankee Nut -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/20/2008 9:50:32 PM)

Indecent Proposell- Interesting Movie.

National Lampoons Animal House- very funny

The Dark Knight- Absolutely loved it

jodavi -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/20/2008 10:22:07 PM)

Jumper- 'thought the movie could have been better. There were so many holes in the storyline that it left me scratching my head in the end. I don't know why Kristin Stewart was in the movie for about 2 seconds and no storyline there. One thing though was that I did not know it was filmed here in my neck of the woods-- yeay Ann Arbor!

DaveW -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/21/2008 12:15:51 PM)

Hancock.

Interesting flick with a HUGE plot twist that was from way out in left field....

LaurainAL -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/21/2008 1:31:08 PM)

I Am Legend.....not your typical Will Smith movie.

DreadPirateRandy -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/21/2008 7:15:28 PM)

SAW III & IV.

One word: ew. [:'(]

However, the suspense/mystery aspect of it is always mind-blowing.

42servehymn -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/21/2008 8:14:32 PM)

I went with two girlfriends yesterday to see Mama Mia. I enjoyed it but my friend Donna made it even more fun. She laughed, cried and sang along with all the songs.

The Bow

Kim-ki Duk is back in his usual, enfant terrible form with this tale concerning a 60 year old man who 10 years ago, kidnapped a young girl, just so he can prepare her for marriage... that is, until a teenager interferes with this pseudo-idyllic universe, in the form of some dingy fishing boat.

The movie seems to share much in (thematical) common with Kim's prior works such as The Isle, Bad Guy, The Coast Guard, and even Samaritan Girl, combining elements of (sexual) violent obsession, underage girls, the water (kinda like those old, French New Wave movies by Truffaut), Buddhism, and women as this "lady-of-the-lake," metaphor... sans Excalibur.

This time around, I think the Korean art house shockmeister is showing more of his refined, and possibly less confrontational, and maybe less unsettling in the long run(?), audience-friendly part to himself: The Bow seems to be a lot more sentimental and restrained, even in spite of the disturbing plot premise. Who knew... but this almost reminds of the auteur's foray into period pieces like Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...

H Story

It's basically a mockumentary/meta-fictional take on some Japanese remake of Alan Resnais' Hiroshima Mon Amour, that feels more like a movie about filmmaking, or at least the disintegration thereof. Just about everyone who starred in this movie played themselves, like French actress Beatrice Dalle (Yes, THAT Beatrice Dalle of Betty Blue/37.2 Le Matin fame), director Nobuhiro Suwa, etc... as if it they were just playing themselves in a alternate universe. Very intellectual drama, not necessarily for widespread viewing for the popcorn-munching, summer movie crowd.

doinkdom -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/22/2008 1:01:34 PM)

Hancock - loved the twist

Incredible Hulk - Ed Norton rocks!

jodavi -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/22/2008 1:45:39 PM)

The Dark Knight- really liked it. Castings and acting were great. And like I posted under TDK thread- I'm a Jack fan but Heath took Joker to another notch.

doinkdom -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/22/2008 1:52:52 PM)

Oh yeah...also saw the Bucket List

excellent film

alias007 -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/22/2008 9:26:41 PM)

Penelope:
Didn't really know what to expect from this movie, but I loved it. Great movie! Will probably end up buying this one...

TammyIsBlessed -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/23/2008 12:05:55 AM)

Get Smart - awesome!!!

my quivers full -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/23/2008 8:31:32 PM)

Paul, the Apostle.

Borrowed it from a friend. good movie. Some parts of the story didn't line up with the story told in the scriptures but well told and Pauls simplistic dedication to preaching the gospel message encouraged me.

teaspoon61 -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/25/2008 8:55:56 PM)

Mama Mia!

I LOVED IT!!

A fun feel good movie!!

humbleinspirit -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/26/2008 12:23:13 PM)

Both of those movies are on my "to see" list. [;)]

aslouie -> RE: I Just Saw... (7/26/2008 11:49:16 PM)

Mongol

I'm impressed by this multi-national effort, starring Tadanobu Asano (a.k.a. Japan's answer to Johnny Depp), with a cast of both Mongolian/Chinese-speaking extras, and a Russian director at the helm. There's something sweeping about this Genghis Khan biopic, like the breathtaking widescreen shots (makes me wanna take a vacation there), the Central Asian-styled, 'throat-singing'/John Williams-esque musical score, and some awesome fight scenes that reeks of the pop cultural words, "spaghetti western," or even samurai drama!*
*check out the conventional arterial blood spray effect... or maybe not...[;)] It kinda inspires that take-charge, conqueror in me! LOL

The Dark Knight

I have to give kudos to the Nolan bros. (both Chris and his co-screenwriting sib, Jonathan) for giving the DC franchise a much more, cerebral, psychologically thrilling/engaging summer movie, much in the same way as say, their debut effort, 'Memento.' Yes it's darker, but still more morally-compelling in regards to questioning human nature, especially in this 9-11 age of crossing the line, in order to ironically maintain those same rights and stability of any other crime-prone, free society. And yes, Heath Ledger should at least deserve a Best Actor/Supporting Actor Oscar posthumous nod for his magnum opus of a performance!
