Karaboo2 -> Kim Caught Her June Bug ... Welcome, Gwendolyn Eleanor!!!--WARNING: WOMEN'S THREAD (5/24/2008 9:35:00 PM)

Okay ... since I'm Kim's contact, and since she has now reached 37 weeks, I felt it was high time to start a thread to watch and catch her June Bug!

peculiar_lady2 -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/24/2008 9:54:22 PM)

are you going to start a poll for us to keep us occupied while we wait (and pray) with her?

Karaboo2 -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/24/2008 10:00:17 PM)

I suppose I shall ... but what kind of poll would we all like? How close to due date?? When during the day JB is coming?? Whether the pool will be filled in time?? LOL!!!!

how about whether she will have a boy or a girl?

Karaboo2 -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/24/2008 10:23:39 PM)

Oh yeah ... she is one of the unknowns on the list, isn't she?!!?!?! I guess I just keep thinking boy because of the bug reference ... (my friend has a little boy who has the nickname 'Bug')

Karaboo2 -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/24/2008 10:25:24 PM)

Okay ... boy versus girl for the first poll.

nicole6598 -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/24/2008 10:27:49 PM)

I voted boy

Wow, Kim I can't believe its this time already... I remember when you were the baby thread stalker for a while, then got pregnant yourself, so awesome!

peculiar_lady2 -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/24/2008 10:51:16 PM)

I vote girl only cause there is already so much blue coming up on the list

Royal.Fortress -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/24/2008 11:59:46 PM)

Thanks for the thread, Kara! [:D] It feels infinitely weird to have a thread all for me and June Bug!!

LOL, Nicole - I remember that too!! It feels like both a lifetime ago and just a blink of the eye. Pregnancy is truly an incredible experience!!

Ummm ... I suppose I should give some demographic info about myself for those who aren't following the pg thread.

Name: Kim
Age: 24
Due Date: June 14

I've been married for a year and a half and this is our first baby [:D]. I just finished my nursing degree at the beginning of April, and I write my RN registration exam on June 4. Ummm ... everything has been wonderful at my appointments and we are planning a homebirth! Sooooo hopefully, I will be updating everyone directly on here after June Bug makes his/her appearance!

(P.S. I voted girl [:)])

Brandy -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/25/2008 11:23:56 AM)

I vote girl to balance the blue.

Man o man we have lots of babes on the way!!

September last year was apparently a popular month [;)][;)]

TammyIsBlessed -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/25/2008 2:24:35 PM)

I voted boy.

Kim - did you get my pm about the nursing clothes?

purejoy -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/25/2008 8:40:29 PM)

Yay, Kim! You're getting so close.

I voted girl. Just because I've felt like you're having a girl. All my intuition from how many miles away... [8|]

Royal.Fortress -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/26/2008 1:33:43 PM)

Tammy - yepper, I got your PM. I've gotta figure it all out ... I don't want to get clothes that are too small!! [8|]

Kati - lol, I believe your intuition!!! Honestly, I've been thinking 'girl' for so long (because of my aunt and mom) that if June Bug is a boy I'll be shocked, and probably a little bit disappointed. [:D]

Who's gotta be different now Donna?[8D][8D][:D]

I voted girl too, just because I love mine!!

Brandy -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/26/2008 3:53:51 PM)

Kim have you gotten any gender specific clothes? Jeremy is slightly terrified that even after THREE ultrasounds confirming her gender she will be this little boy wearing pink/purple/yellows. I tell him that SO WHAT if it is a boy, he can't tell what color he's got on for atleast a year [;)]

Royal.Fortress -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/26/2008 4:15:21 PM)

LOL - Actually we have quite a bit of boyish stuff (because my sister passed down all her son's clothes) and a few girly onesies. I was thinking we should have one newborn outfit in each for first pictures ... but the likelihood of us getting to a store and picking that out is slim-to-none! [:D] Since I've got my sister's boy stuff, and a lady at church is hanging onto her girl stuff until we find out what June Bug is, I'm not too concerned!!

That's funny about Jeremy - I don't think Brad's given it ANY thought!

Royal.Fortress -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/26/2008 11:53:51 PM)

Well!! Today and yesterday we were BUSY!! Check HERE for pics of our renos, if you want =)

Tonight we put together the co-sleeper (it's currently in position all snuggled up beside me ... surreal? A little bit!! I put a sleeper in it earlier - babies are so small!!) and put some stuff in the baby's room - the day bed and the dresser that will also function as a change table, so it's looking a bit more like a real room!! I hope to get around to priming the wall sometime this week, as it's supposed to be BEAUTIFUL until the w/e - when it's supposed to pour. Both days. LOL

I've got my midwife home visit tomorrow at 2:00 pm - wuhoo! I feel much better about the thought of them coming to visit now that we've actually got a bed for the baby and a spot for the pool [:D]

I have a ticker on my facebook page ... 19 days until my due date! 19, people!!! That's less than twenty! That is a small number!

TammyIsBlessed -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/27/2008 1:45:35 AM)

The first one just has that special air of excitement about it - so excited for you!!

I always leave the picking of the "first outfit" up to Paul....that and cutting the cord are his two "things". We have had a different one for each kid too...and while we may use it (occasionally) for another baby we will save it for the one that wore it first.
Emma had lots of yellows and greens...until I was able to pull out the girl clothes and get them washed. All of the pics of her in the hospital though are in yellow cause we didn't know if she was a boy or girl.

YAY that the closet is done!!!! Great pics!!!

Royal.Fortress -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/27/2008 11:02:39 AM)

Aww, Sarah - it's sweet that Paul picks out the first outfit!! I thought his clothing picking skills ... left a lot to be desired? Or is that only when he has to match stuff?? LOL

Thanks =) It's pretty exciting - and soooo nice to have one thing DONE.

purejoy -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/27/2008 11:12:59 AM)

Kim- I think it was Paul's hairstyling skills that were a *teeny bit* iffy. [:D]

You closet looks great! Much better after all of their hard work. And you can definitely see a resemblence between you and your dad.

EmilyAnn -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/27/2008 12:03:15 PM)

Since we will be having the baby at home, we didn't pick out a special coming home outfit. Instead, I ordered a custom made cloth diaper for a "baby's first fluff" picture. LOL It should be here today!!

TwinCityGirl -> RE: Royal.Fortress (Kim's) June Bug-Catching Thread (5/27/2008 1:22:22 PM)

Dana had told me to bring outfits of multiple sizes to the hospital since we didn't know how big the baby would be. He was almost 6.5 pounds and NOTHING fit him that we brought. He was just swimming in his little clothes. BUT I picked the smallest one we had and dressed him in it for the ride home.

I was exhausted and very, very ready to go home, and my DH left to pull the car up, and the nurse called transport for someone to come and get baby and me and wheel us down to meet my DH at the car. I went to put baby in his carseat (first time going in there) and was clipping the leg clips in place when I noticed BROWN on one of his socks -- yep -- baby poop on his sock! And I had no idea why it would have leaked (stupid Pampers -- I am not a fan), but I was so tired and just desperate to go home I thought "Well, I'll just "borrow" a washcloth from the hospital and cover his foot with it because WE ARE LEAVING!"

By now the transport lady (about 75 years old) was there waiting for me to get him ready. Baby is screaming bloody murder, I am about to fall asleep standing there (or start bawling myself, one of the two) and I go to clip the other side of the carseat together -- MORE BROWN! Too much brown to just steal a washcloth and cover it. HE NEEDS TO BE CHANGED NOW.

But I have nothing. EVERYTHING is packed in the luggage and has gone with my husband. Everything. The going-home clothes in bigger sizes. The pack of Pampers from the hospital. Even the little wash basin -- it's all GONE. I have nothing to change him into, no diapers, no extra socks. NOTHING.

I take my jacket off (it's winter) and hit the call button for the nurse and practically in tears I tell her that my baby needs a diaper change and all my supplies are loaded in the car. She tells me she will tell my nurse (God bless Lisa!) who arrived in short order. I'm so tired I'm practically in a stupor now, and Lisa arrives and asks what she can do. I tell her and she leaves to go get a new pack of Pampers, some Vaseline and gauze (to cover him from his circumcision --- which had been done about 4 hours earlier). She brings all the supplies to me and I just stand there, frozen for a few seconds, and then she says "Do you want me to change him?" I think she realized I was too out of it. I said "Sure", and just stood back. Our son is just wailing this whole time, and the 75-year-old transport lady is so calmly standing outside the room with the wheelchair. I keep apologizing...she smiles and says it's no problem.

Lisa changes the baby and of course there are NO clean clothes for him so she runs and gets him a little long-sleeved half-shirt and says "Just take this", and puts it on him. He left the hospital wearing that little half-shirt undershirt thing, NO SOCKS, a Pampers, and a winter coat. I did NOT take a picture of his going-home outfit.

And when I put him in the carseat for transport he was FINE. We never heard a peep out of him in his ragamuffin outfit the whole way home.

So our son's first outfit either qualifies as the one he blew out in or the one that was totally unfinished and dorky. [sm=hammerhead.gif]

(I would have called DH to bring the other outfits back upstairs to me but his back had gone out about an hour earlier thanks to concrete floors and sleeping on that pull-out thing for 2 nights and I was NOT going to have him re-park the car and walk all the way back up for us. And actually I had completely forgotten DH had his cell phone with him so I kept thinking I would have had to walk down to get him to get the bag...and they wouldn't let me leave because I was a patient.)

Ah, those are some funny memories. The best laid plans, you know....

This will NOT happen with your homebirth, though, Kim! And it will be very fun to read your story about June Bug's delivery and earliest days. God bless you all.

Jeanie

Do you think someday you'll wish that you had've taken that picture? [8D]
