Game 3 - lost opportunity...Celtics had 'em down 6 in 4th quarter, then couldn't hold on.

I feel your pain!! I thought all the Laker fans were going to be gloating about the win!! I guess they haven't come out of their closets yet. I hope Game 4 seals their doom.

Pierce's knee boo-boo must've been hampering him last night. Lakers in seven. Home court advantage will hold until game seven.

Ugly game, but very intense.

What happened to Lakers in six? A crisis of confidence in your team methinks! Of course after losing two straight in Boston and winning by single digits with a late rally how could I blame you!

In order to win in six, the Lakers had to win one in the Garden, which they inexplicably did not. Surprising, especially in light of the boo-boo to Pierce's knee. Mathmatics required an adjustment.

Game 4:

Lakers 110
Celts 106

Tonight is the biggest game of the series. Celts win. Lakers are pretty much toast. Lakers win, it becomes a three game series! Of course, two out of three of those games are in Boston. And, according to the disgraced ref, Tim Donaghy, the home team will have bought off the refs to insure a win.

Sorry, vegas, I didn't know you required the whole enchilada.

Game 5: Lakers 107
Celtics 97

Game 6: Celtics 110
Lakers 94

Game 7: Lakers 102
Celtics 100

MVP: Kobe Bryant
Loser: Boo Boo Pierce

Who's Donaghy betting on in this one?

Wow, that's pretty accurate! Is that what Donaghy is saying? Because you know it's all fixed!

Well I think that by game 7 (if it gets that far) will have Mr. Bryant Cryin'. Henceforth, he will be known as Cryin' Bryant. Mr. Peirce will put a Shrek band-aid on his boo-boo (gotta match the uniform) and he'll do just fine. Mr. Boo Boo will make Bryant Boo-Hoo!

This thread's almost more fun than the game itself. Please note I said almost!

Looking Forward to the game tonight. Should be interesting to see how the Celts play after their loss the other night.

Is it just me or is K.G. the most boring dominant player outside of Tim Duncan....heck, even Duncan has amusing bank shots that seem physically and geometrically impossible to make. K.G. is not athletic...does not have great speed, nor flashy moves. ...

He just takes jumps shots and looks all mean on defense. I think the Celtics are boring quite frankly. But it's the significance of the franchises and the Kobe factor that make this a good series to me. I'd rather have watched Lakes v. Cavs....Kobe/Lebron would have been unreal!

Boring just made the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history. BOO-YA!

Sorry, had to say that.

Coach Doc takes a big share of heat from the Boston.com sports forum but only a team with a great coach could have pulled that off. Not to mention that when the roles were reversed in game 2 (Celtics take the big lead, Lakers make the big run) the Celtics made the plays when they absolutely had to in order to win.

We all know the greatness of Phil Jackson as a coach and nothing in this series has taken any of that away (not even tonight's collaspe). Doc has a long way to go to even get close to that level but Doc has earned some props.

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG....

me at 9:00PM: "Um...you go ahead and watch the game. I'm going to watch a movie tonight. I don't think it's going to be very exciting anyways. Probably just more defense defense defense from Boston and a Laker win tonight with Kobe pulling htem through...."

me at 12:00AM: "OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG, I JUST MISSED THE MOST HISTORIC COME-BACK GAME WIN IN NBA FINALS HISTORY!!!"

I suck.

Not as bad as the Lakers do!!! So Boston can wrap it up on Pappy's Day!

18 point deficit erased. Who was the league MVP again? The guy who normally scores over 30 points per game (31.6 to be exact) and he could only muster 17?!

I'll say it again! Mr. Boo Boo Pierce will make Cryin' Bryant Boo-Hoo!

First I'm not a basketball expert by any means but I do understand how people tick and these observations are in that vein. I'm also a Celtics fan. So here are my thoughts:

This is about as bad as it can get for the Lakers without actually losing the series. Kobe and a bunch of youngins (more or less) just gave up the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history. If there is any truth about momentum (and I think we saw it in this year's Super Bowl) the Lakers are going to have some serious negative carryover into Game 5.

The second point may not be one people want to think about but I think its in play. The NBA is engulfed in a big scandal over fixing games. Hopefully it turns out not to be true. Elimination games (aside from game 7) are thought to be the number one type of games the NBA is suspected of fixing. The Lakers have the extreme misfortune of playing a home elimiation game during this scandal. They may very well be a case of overcompensation on the part of the officials. No matter how fair the officials want to be or even are if a very close play happens are the officials going to call it in favor of the Celtics (maybe not even consciously, our minds can fool us) to avoid any suspicion of "oh they wanted the Lakers to win to stretch out the series"? This won't be a factor if its a blowout but considering how close the first 4 games were (even the first was closer than the margin of victory indicated) I find that highly unlikely.

There is good news for the Lakers though. If they win game 5 the big comeback they gave up will be history, no more carryover. The officials factor I mentioned will be less in game 6 IMHO unless its a bad call that allows the Lakers to win, then it'll be worse. So they'll be back to having to just win two games in Boston, without the other stuff working against them. A monumental task but not impossible by any means (although they'll be the first team to come back from 3-1 to win an NBA championship).

I put the Lakers at 50-50 to win game 5. If the two factors I mentioned were not present I'd put 70-30 odds on the Lakers winning game 5. A team facing elimination will play with an urgency that I suspect cannot be humanly matched by a team well aware they have three chances to win the series. You can't psyche yourself up to truly believe you have to win whern you have three chances to do so.

Even if the Celtics win 4 games to 1 it'll have been a very good series (from an objective perspective). Evey game so far has been down to the wire.

The Lakers staved off elimination with a win in the home court. Can they win 2 in the garden? Game six is a must win for the Celtics otherwise it's anyone's title!

The Celts looked really tired at the end of the game and they were missing shots that not only would have tied but won that game. The last inbound pass looked like an intentional giveaway.

Oh well, I guess there's one more game left in the season!

Excellent point. It will be much easier for the Celtics to win game 6 than to win a potential game 7.

The games have this pattern of LA jumping out to a big lead, then the celts hang around and at some point in 2nd half make a massive run. I really don't see Lakers winning game six unless Boston is totally out of gas.

Vielen Dank. My dad has Austrian heritage but never learned the language. My mom is from Mexico and being that I have more cousins that speak spanish (and living in LA) I learned Spanish which I have had more opportunities to use it. But being that my wife is deprtment chair of the World Languages Dept. at her high school I get exposed to many different languages. They teach Spanish, French, German & Mandarin.

Back on topic! I actually think these teams are pretty evenly matched. Except for that horrible game the games seem to be a real battle. No one team has won by a blowout. I even am beginning to wonder if the Lakers actually can pull that rabbit out of the hat! But they will no longer have home court advantage and the new playoff format has not been kind to the visiting team.

I think if Boston treats Game 6 as an absolute must-win, they will probably pull it off this game. The Celts have the talent, chemistry, and homecourt to do it.

LA already has to treat it as a must-win....otherwise they are gone. Therefore, you know they will be playing their all out best. Boston cannot feel complacent and rely on their cushion of Game 7 to come in unprepared against the Lakers. They should treat Game 6 as Game 7. If both teams do, then the best will win and there should be no regrets.

As fas as predicting who will take the game, I am clueless...it's so hard to guess. Both teams have shown flashes of brilliance and the momentum has been going back and forth...Overall, however, I think Boston has too many hungry and eager veteran super stars (The Big Three + Cassell and P.J. Brown) with experience, not to mention other great role players, to close out and take reign over this game. At least that's my theory. ....The Lakers, however, with a do-or-die mentality, may come out blazing hot and shock Boston in their own homecourt...but would need to finally hold their lead and play well throughout to win one. Boston seems up and down a solid team with great chemistry. The Lakers feel like a Jekyll and Hyde...one a dominant super team that can do whatever it wants on the court and the other a terribly chaotic and sloppy team easy to take advantage of.

It should be a good one!

I just realized I made a mistake in an earlier post. What I meant to say was Celtics in six, not Lakers. Carry on.
